I agree with all the posted reviews but wish to add the following. The best reasons to visit this bookstore (besides UCSF author offerings) is the Oral B Toothbrushes they sell for .69 cents or something like that. This even beats Costco HANDS DOWN. Of course these toothbrushes are marked "not for retail sale" so don't tell lots of people. Just smile....and save your change for the parking meters. They are dental samples pushed on dental students so companies can say "9 out of 10 dentists use..." read more

FIVE stars because for textbooks, they NOW PRICE-match with the internet!!!! Hurrah!! After a lot of commentary from students who wondered why they were paying a premium for texts written primarily by the same people who teach the courses (conflict, anyone?), SOMEONE listened and the administration has agreed to match the prices on amazon/textbookx.com/etc. I just got back from this quarter's purchases and it was A LOT less painful than my book purchases as an undergraduate! Wow- the University of California has agreed to take ONE step in the right direction, which is a breath of fresh air. I had NO idea they had cheap toothbrushes. I am SO stocking up. read more

I have this weird love/hate relationship with you. I love you when you have items on sale, I love that your there to help me kill time before class. I love that you carry all my textbooks. I hate you because you take all of my money. You leave me broke, hungry and angry. I hate making trips to you because I know I'll probably be out 200 dollars and that means I can't make that trip to Nordstroms after. As much as I hate you, I don't think I hate you as much as my parents hate you. You do nothing but take and take from me. Once I graduate I'll be done with you. But thanks for carrying 69 cents toothbrushes and candy bars. read more

I spent a lot of money here...while I was going to school here. I remember RUNNING to the bookstore once we got the syllabus so that we wouldn't be the one or two students stuck without a book. If you didn't have the book you were screwed. Especially if the book was written by your professor! This never happened to me. I was a good student. :) If you all like the dental supplies...go visit the dental school. The students always need patients. You get good work done there because the students are strictly supervised. Just be prepared to spend about 3 hours just for an exam. read more

A university bookstore is a university bookstore. I came here because I needed calipers to read EKGs. They were right there behind the counter. Got them and left. Parking can be a pain though so circle around and around until you find a spot. read more

No where else on Parnassus to buy UCSF logo paraphernalia - t-shirts, shirts, sock and sweat tops/pants. They have a much better selection now from the days of yore. The place used to be crammed with books but it looks more like a merchandising store than bookstore nowadays. They markdown their clothing to 30% off from time to time and if you're a member of the alumni assn, just show your card and get an additional 15% off on the clothing. The med equipment is still pricey. Tried to replace the tubing to an insuffulator bulb and they can only replace the whole unit which would cost $40 for a little bulb with tubing and metal attachment! He did recommend going to an auto shop to just buy the tubing, thanks! The car decals and alum license plate frames are rather boring looking. The toothbrushes must still be a bargain, ran into a staff member on her break with a handful of them while she was looking at the purses. read more

The bookstore of the University of California, San Francisco will mainly interest people in the health professions because that's all it carries: it is the official bookstore for the large and highly-regarded medical, nursing, dental, and graduate schools at UCSF. Aside from medical books, you can find other things like Welch-Allyn's fine medical instruments (otoscopes and opthalmoscopes) here. They have a good assortment of medical books, although Stacy's Professional Books is close behind them. Since they do the ordering for the UCSF library they can often get anything via special order you find in the library providing that it's in print. This may not matter to many people on Yelp, but those of us in medical research are thankful for them, to say the least. read more

If you want to get a medical scientific text book, you are in the right place. Yet, this store up on the "hill" has more beyond the UCSF paraphernalia. They have a generous selection of Flojo flip-flops and Overland bags to suit anyones fancy. read more

This place sells a lot more than books. Go here to buy medical examination equipment, pda software, scrubs, stationary supplies, and gifts for the UCSF grad. The staff is very nice and helpful. My main gripes are that store is small and cramped, and their selection of titles is pretty limited. Also, they don't carry computer software. read more

I graduated from here many years ago but I still love looking through the bookstore whenever I'm there. Lots of cool medical stuff, books, scrubs & sweats. read more

There is tons of cute stuff here for gifts. They have limited extra-small sizes in clothing. They don't regularly stock their jewelry and my favorite artist who makes bracelets out of famous artists' paintings no longer had any items left. There's not alot of variety in the clothing, but it meets the toursits need for a sweater and kills time. The staff is pretty friendly usually. while I was there, they had trouble communicating with a Brazilian family. read more

DON'T BUY GIFTS FOR OTHERS AT THE TECHNOLOGY STORE. I received a copy of Microsoft Office from here for my birthday earlier this year (price: $144.95). I attempted to return it (completely unopened) recently but to no avail - one must HAVE BOTH A RECEIPT AND RETURN WITHIN 14 DAYS OF PURCHASE. Not 30, not 60, not 90. No refund, no store credit, no exchange for a similar item. Nada. So, if you are thinking of getting someone a gift here (or making any kind of purchase), be sure make up your mind about it quick. Meanwhile, I will be attempting to sell my unreturnable software on the internet or contact Microsoft directly. By the way, they took 5 days to respond to my email about it - two sentences and a "Sorry!!". Well, there goes $150. read more

i asked one of the guy who works there for a couple of books and even before cheking in the computer inventory he told me that the didnt have that kind of book (kaplan and sadocks study guide or the hand book) then he searched in the computer ( which he had a bit of trouble to use, maybe his first time in front of one?). so then there where 0 matches in the inventory search so another person came in, some one who seems to be like supervisor or something ( i believe some or all of the store personel are volunteers) and he searched again and this time one of the books apeares but out of stock, this persons was kind of angry and rude, he told me "do you see this line here? it says 0, and here and here and here, that means we dont have the book" so ok i went to the book shelves to browse for any other books that i might use and there it was kaplan and sadocks study guide.. so i know is not the store clerks that the inventory was wrong, but they were quite rude and well it makes me thing if they are forced to work there? any way first and last time there. remember to look yourselves instead of asking the store personel read more
