UCC is definitely one of my favorite spots I go to when I want to treat myself because their coffee just is so good. Even with this new "third wave" coming over Manila, UCC definitely still holds it down.
Each UCC Branch also features a specific style. Having been to UCC Clockwork (Estancia) and UCC Park Terrace (Robinsons Magnolia) prior to my first time here, I can definitely say that this Vienna location definitely feels a lot more cozy than the other branches. It has a very exhaustive menu full of comfort food (Japanese, Filipino, and American-Filipino favorites abound) and a great, great coffee selection.
I got the UCC Iced Sumiyaki coffee iced, a charcoal roast. I don't really know the mechanics behind the charcoal roast but it was SUPER smooth. It felt more like a soda fountain treat than a cup of black iced coffee. My friend that took me here swore by the Kori Kohi--UCC iced coffee cubes that you pour lukewarm milk over. Yum. If only I had brought some lactaid!!
We all ordered food too. The food isn't something experimental or the best-you-ever-had. But it is familiar, delicious, and comforting. My Filipino breakfast set was satisfying and definitely gave me a much-needed fiftieth wind to keep studying. My friends had similar comments about their dinners as well.
Maybe that's the point--keep the food simple so the coffee can shine.
They also have a smoker's lounge upstairs and free Wi-Fi. That's always a nice touch. read more
