I suggest to get their pour over coffee, and choose the Secret Stash beans (I forgot which one, but the one that has red grape note in it). We came to Yardstick Coffee for breakfast and coffee, and were so pleased as soon as we walked in. Yardstick Coffee is more than just a cafe. It's a showroom where you can see the baristas making all the different beverages with high-quality espresso machines, like La Marzocca in the center of the space. It's a great way for consumers to learn more about how their coffee is prepared and made, only using the best ingredients and tools. We ordered a Vanilla Flat White, Drip and a Butterscotch Waffle. The items were delivered to our table as they were finished, getting our drinks first. The drip was one of five brews that they had that day and was very, very good! It was a bold and dark roast, reaffirming those who drink drip coffee why it's always a solid choice. The Vanilla Flat White was made with Madagascar vanilla, espresso and foam from milk, and it was awesome! You could really taste that strong vanilla flavor without it being too sweet, which I liked. And once the Butterscotch Waffle came we were pleasantly surprised to find all that it came with! When I ordered it I figured it would be a waffle with some butterscotch sauce (I love butterscotch!), but it had two scoops of Madagascar vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, slices of banana that were flambeed with brown sugar, creating that butterscotch flavor! How cool is that? Glad we were sharing this waffle because the portion was more than what we could handle, but it was so tasty that we didn't want to stop. Loved the different, fresh ingredients used here, making a huge difference in flavor. I highly recommend trying a waffle here, even if you just plan to get coffee here! Ambiance of Yardstick Coffee is open, spacious and inviting. Since the baristas are making your beverage in the center of the room, you're invited to watch and learn how its done. There's also a separate room in the space where they host cupping classes! Gotta love that and would've taken advantage of one, had we been in Manila during one. For anyone who loves coffee, Yardstick Coffee is where to visit in Manila. It goes beyond coffee chains and customer service. It's a place where you can not only enjoy what you're consuming, but you can learn where products are from and how its made, giving you a better understanding of why a damn good cup of coffee matters. read more

On paper, Yardstick Coffee has everything. Great third-wave coffee, fantastic technique, good food, a wide open space, fashionable interiors, and pride in what they do. It's proximity to Your Local is also a plus in my book. And yes, they do serve a very good Flat White. I would highly recommend Yardstick to my friends, no question about that. So why don't I sound so excited? I dunno, man. There's something about Yardstick that doesn't resonate with me. If I had to provide specifics, it may have to do with its brand identity. See, I don't find Yardstick warm and cheerful at all. It's too sleek, too sharp, and the furniture is not comfortable at all. It's like you get the feeling that they want you to come in, get a coffee, and get out. I've also noticed that people tend to keep to themselves here (To be fair, Curator is also like that), as compared to the other coffee shops in Makati (Commune and Restock come to mind). Maybe Yardstick is not for interaction. Certainly nothing wrong with that. There are days I would go to a coffee place just to buckle down to work, and I would certainly think that Yardstick is brilliant if you want to keep to yourself and have great coffee. Sundays in Metro Manila are special: no traffic, lots of free time for most people, and just a generally laid back vibe. This place tucked away on a quiet street in Makati is the epitome of the coffeeshops you'd see on VSCOam or Instagram. Luckily the coffee and pairings they serve here live up to the hype. For something sweet but still filled with warm coffee flavor, their mocha is a must-try. For something strong and smooth, their cold brew coffee is among the better ones in Metro Manila. Their flat white is also noteworthy, but I prefer the ones from Toby's Estate. As for food offerings, I love their waffles. The pairings and flavors like lemon curd and apple pie a la mode are simple but so satisfying. Coming here to tambay or work is always a pleasure. The atmosphere is airy, hip and chill. I'm a huge fan of Yardstick Coffee. I came in for a Flat White and some waffles, and had a really good afternoon. A non-coffee drinking friend took a chance on their PB&H milkshake, which we both agreed tasted much too soulful and deep for its unassuming, all-white appearance. And you can tell that everyone who works at Yardstick actually want to be there. Andre Chanco, their "Coffee Guy" pretty much runs the place, and was very accommodating when I asked to meet with him to discuss holding an event there (they are so easy to work with). The servers/baristas know their stuff, and seem like a really happy bunch. Even their security guard seemed really happy -- we caught him dancing to some of Andre's very current, hipster music (it might have been Chvrches that he was dancing to). I'm a fan of their brews, too. I realized through Yardstick Coffee, that Ethiopia might be my favorite place of coffee origin, via Yardstick's Suke Quto blend. I was lucky to be have been able to attend one Coffee 101 workshop (the same event we asked to work with them on), and learned so much. These guys have really done their research, which I appreciate, because I feel that Manila -- a city built on fast food joints -- lacks intelligent food places like this. read more

I was lucky to have my office only a two minute walk away from Yardstick. It still is one of my favourite cafes to hang out in when I visit Legaspi Village, in Makati because of the soothing interiors and lighting of the establishment. It's perfect for work meetings, book launches, catch ups with friends, and for me, alone time. They have quite a selection of different kinds of Coffee. They have Black, White, Super White, Filter, Cold Brew, Concept Coffee, Roaster's Pick, etc. I've tried a lot of their caffeinated drinks but my two favourites are their Gibraltar and their 12 hour Cold Brew coffee (this brew is especially most effective for slow, sleepy, lazy days). Yardstick coffee is in my opinion the least pretentious third wave coffee shop here. It won't confuse you with fancy interiors, vintage items and bare ceilings. Plus it serves straight-up good coffee. I really loved the cafe latte. The quality is top-notch but a lot can be said about the quantity. The serving cups in yardstick is a tad smaller than compared to what you'll see in Toby's Estate and Craft Coffee. The salted caramel waffles were also delicious. These were served with salted caramel on the side and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The waffle batter was crunchy and light, which was completely opposite of what I expected (spongy and heavy). This was definitely a plus since you're able to finish it in one go without feeling too bad about yourself. I also tried the Dear Fred coffee and beer hybrid but I still don't know how I'll feel about it. But a drink to provide the right amount of buzz and caffeine? The place considered to have the best coffee in the metro has a special place in my overly caffeinated heart. When I'm in the area, I try to come to Yardstick as much as possible since I don't live that near. Always such a treat! Local roasters for the win! Clean, minimalist, and dare I say, hipster? Yardstick caters to the buzzing crowd of Makati's Legazpi Village and word has reached beyond that (hi). Although recently I've noticed more of a laptop and latte crowd hovering above their screens with possibly unnecessary thick rimmed glasses (it's easy to tell when you don't have lenses). Don't look at me like that. I actually need my glasses to see. The menu is simple and concise enough that it's pretty easy to pick what you want to order unless you're fickle. I think the hardest part is excitedly waiting for the coffee to arrive. I usually bring my mom with me because she enjoys Yardstick just as much as I do although we get quite different drinks. She usually gets the Americano (similar to a long black) which she believes is really strong and wakes her up immediately. It's also not too bitter for her unlike the cold brew I must always have. It's hard for me to enjoy hot coffee here since I find the weather too damn hot for anything that's boiled unless I'm in a controlled environment (hello, extra cold air conditioning). As bitter as it is (like my soul), Yardstick's 12 hour cold brew is tremendously delicious and does the job. To be honest, I wish my body could take more than 2 cups of coffee a day. But that would drive my parents crazy and I don't really want to be the main cause of that. I've also been getting into their iced long black coffee because... Dundundun... Yardstick started bottling their cold brew so it's easy to take home and store in the fridge while I get to try new things and not feel the FOMO too much. Easy to buy by the bottle or by 6 bottles if you're a coffee addict like me. These babies are also available for sale outside (stockists are listed on their Instagram page) so that's pretty convenient if you're craving that cold brew outside of the area. If you get really really hungry, Your Local is right through the swivel door that just looks like a dark brown wall. You can also order Yardstick's coffee if you dine at Your Local. Yardstick offers an array of waffles with sides and they look super cute! I got the lemon curd with maple syrup waffle. Best mix of sweet and sour! #instagramthatshit Yardstick is just a really fun place to hang out and enjoy a cup of joe (or tea if you're into that!) There's definitely enough room for a bigger group although sometimes there is that one group that gets a little too loud but it's okay. I don't judge. On the outside anyway. Yardstick's a 10 minute walk from CSA so my friend and I are fond of walking there on Friday afternoons after dismissal. In fact once you're done with your meal in Your Local, there's actually a swinging door that could lead you to Yarstick Coffee. This place could be where you grab your coffee (or their famous Yard Shake) to end your good dinner in Your Local. You can even save room so that you can have brownies or even their Torched Bananas and and Marshmallow Fluff with Chocolate Waffle (yum, I want). For me, it's the best thing they have here. This cafe has a very relaxed feel - super high ceilings and it feels like you're in a warehouse type of place. Located in the middle of Legazpi village, it's a haven for office goers who are craving for their caffeine fix but are sick of the same old Frappuccino in that other coffee joint. Wide-open spaces, bright wooden fixtures and color accents give the place a very airy feel - conducive to having a post-lunch meeting, or to just meet up with friends after a long day's work. Because of the minimal, Scandinavian-y design of the place, Yardstick somehow reminds me of the Blue Bottle cafes in San Francisco. Drinkwise, I like their cold brews with milk and their macchiato, but pretty much everything is yummy and scrumptious. That includes their brownie and cookie menu. It's a great place to go, especially if you're having dinner around the area (Your Local is right beside it). A pity that the place doesn't have too many seats, especially for its space. read more

I came into Yardstick expecting to find another one of those "hipster" cafes that Manila is so into these days, instead I left feeling kind of bad I judged the place too quickly because it serves one of the best Flat Whites I've ever had. The space is huge for a cafe and I find such a great spot to work in because of the bright lighting and the comfortable seating. The place is also a feast for the eyes with all kinds of coffee paraphernalia lying around the place for you to indulge in. Apart from the Flat White, their cold brew with or without milk is a great option for warmer days when a cup of hot joe just won't cut it. I like Yardstick. It's bright, young, and vibrant without being too rowdy. I sometimes bike here from my place to just sit and hang out both solo and with company. The interiors boast high ceilings, cement walls and floors, with clean geometric shapes for their wooden tables and seats. You'll see a pop of bright color here and there for interest. Very young, very modern industrial. The tables in particular are good for working on the fly. The wall nooks are fitted with enough outlets for you to plug in lest, God forbid, your gadgets conk out on you. If I had to choose what to order? I'd go with their flat white and/or one of their waffles. This place is one of the few that I think does thick cut waffles right. The waffle to air ratio is just right. It doesn't feel too bogged down with soggy batter and is airy enough to absorb some melted ice cream (or syrup) nicely. Bonus? The place smells like coffee. Which makes me happy. More than a coffee shop, I love how Yardstick also offers classes for the budding coffee connoisseur! They've got tasting flights -- so you know what makes the difference between their blends and what exactly coffee "notes" are-- as well as other classes that would be beneficial to anyone who wants to start home brewing legitimately... or possibly put up one of their own cafe! Speaking of home brewing, Yardstick also has a mini specialty store in the corner of their cafe where they sell all things related to coffee making, from individually packed beans (which they can grind for you, depending on the machine or brewing method you prefer, with no extra cost!) to grinders, to espresso machines! I've bought an Aeropress here, along with some filters for my chef-sister who's also a hopeless caffeine addict. Yardstick is probably the antithesis to all of the chain cafes that we're used to seeing, as it is always flooded with bright light (helped along by their big, nearly floor to ceiling windows) and super colorful, with the blocks of color amidst the wooden furniture. Compared to the dark, comfy but sometimes dreary over stuffed couches and dim light of Starbucks and CBTL. My favorite brew of theirs is the Dear Fred-- an interesting coffee-beer that's great after lunch or dinner. I also fancy their long black-- which is just a fancy way of calling an espresso with water. Great kick for the afternoon work hours where our Spanish colonial habit of afternoon naps (siestas) still muscle their way in, even after a century of "independence". read more

I am one of those 'go to work then go straight home' kind-of-people so I missed how this place came to be. But when I saw it...it was love at first sight! I am in love with it's modern hipster vibe with quirky decors lining its very sunny space. In one end, you'll see all the tables and chairs. If you're as weird as I am, I though they were hug domino tiles which you can play with but was I so wrong. Those 'domino tiles' were tables! But how cute are they! In the other end, you'll see all the coffee machines that are sold or are used for the classes they conduct for coffee enthusiasts! Yes, coffee here is expensive but you do get your money's worth. They also suggest bottled detox juices for those fitness nuts!
