I wanted to love CO/OP. I really do. The place has by far the best modern architecture in comparison to other coffee shops within the area. The parking is a breeze too (a heaven sent if you frequent Wilson establishments). The interiors aren't a slouch either. It's very spacious and homey at the same time. I can hang out here for hours. But even with all these upsides, sometimes I'd prefer the other cafes nearby over this one. What gives? What I had: Big Bad Brookie Half Cookie and a half Brownie and all business. This hybrid of a dessert is actually pretty good. It's a successful experiment that is best served warm. Props to the baking team. Cheesy Broccoli soup Rich with cheese which surprisingly complements the broccoli. Not bad at all! Bottomline: So why the 3/5 rating? I expected more from the coffee (they just used a coffee machine). And dishes in my opinion are way overpriced except for the Brookie and the soup. Perhaps I'll give this place another try one day and hopefully the score will improve.

Some time last year, I have heard of CO/OP but never found out where it is located until now that we are looking for a place to chill before moving on for our dinner nearby. The place is very beautiful, like a resort house in the mountains. The wooden exterior gave it a more relaxing feel. Aside from a coffee shop, half of the store sells pieces of art, be it pillows, posters, or souvenir tokens. The place is a delight to the eyes. The shop offers full meals, sandwiches, pastas, cakes, and drinks. It is a bit pricey although they up elevated the presentation and quality. I ordered nachos and was surprised that it came out with tons of lettuce, like a taco salad. Nevertheless, it was delicious and refreshing to the tastebuds. I also had their ginger ale. Yummy! My friend ordered the red velvet cake and I was able to try it. I think the refrigerator took the flavor out of it since I could not taste anything and the cake was pretty hard. We did not stay long, but I was hoping we would. It is a great place to relax or have a date with your partner.

While driving around the streets of San Juan looking for a place for coffee, my friend and I found an out of place structure that was too inviting to pass up on. CO/OP with its beautiful glass walls and huge tree on its front yard (aka parking lot) was too pretty not to check out. Thankfully the place served coffee and some food, but what really interested me was the other half of what was inside. Quirky and novelty house decor and gifts, I wanted to buy everything! They have a lot of super cute items from ceramic animals to funny books. You can get lost in time there checking everything out! We sat for a cup of coffee and their layered crepe cake, it wasn't anything special, to be honest. It's a great place to check out tho, especially if you need a different, interesting house warming or birthday gift!

I always used to pass by CO/OP, but from the outside, I could never determine what it actually was.

Deovir is an artist's heaven…read more This could actually be my only statement and it would pretty much sum up Deovir. They have so many items available for use of artists which cannot be found in bookstores. Being the premiere art supply store, they have a wide range of products, from brushes, paints, paper, pencils, etcetera. This goes for even supporting materials such as thinners, binding mediums, and other art-related needs. Being not so familiar with and not comfortable in exploring painting mediums, I recently called them to ask for advice as to what I can use for an upcoming project. I needed to use a paint that would adhere well to textile, will be permanent despite washing, but needs to likewise have the correct consistency for brush calligraphy. With a short discussion of my options, I knew what I needed and even had my orders prepared already for payment and pick-up. Indeed, it pays to go to a specialized shop for, well, special art needs.

There are canvasses of all sizes ready to be spread with acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels, etc. There are reasonably-priced, artist grade brushes. There are craft foams, polymer clays, charcoals, and a lot more. If there is something that I need for a craft or a project, I immediately look for it in Deovir. And I get a sinking feeling if I cannot find it in their shelves, because that means that I am unlikely to find it anywhere else locally. The staff are very helpful, and they know what they are talking about. There was this time when I was assembling a painting kit as a gift, and a friendly salesperson gladly discussed the comparative pros and cons of acrylic and oil, and why the former might be better suited for a novice than the latter. Seriously, I look for excuses to visit this store even though I know that it's not good for my wallet. They also have an online shop but sadly, the online inventory is very limited.

One of the first online suppliers I ever bought anything from was Mansy Abesamis of Hey Kessy. At that time, she already has a website set-up, and it was one of the hardest purchases I had to make in a while. Nope, it wasn't her, nor her website. It was the pretty and adorable designs of her washi tapes that made it difficult for me to choose what I needed (or was it wanted?) to buy. Upon placing my order, I promptly got an email confirming my order and informing me of how to proceed with my purchase. In less than five days, the whole process was over and I got a little nifty package, sealed with a washi tape (of course) and it even came with a cute note. Will I buy again? Yes. Will I really NEED what I will buy? Maybe. Hahaha!

Craft stores have started popping up, and one of which is Hey Kessy. Hey Kessy is an uber cute store that sells various products ranging from watercolor palettes and washi tape to brush pens and temporary tattoos. It's small, but noticeable from the outside because of all the window decors and the word "MAKE" that stands by the doorway. They had so many washi tape designs that I wanted to have for myself, but I had to fight the urge because I currently have a lot at home. Not as pretty as Hey Kessy's though! They also had ZIG brush pens which are, to me, the best brush pens you could buy. Okay, I confess, I'm not really great at handmade things. I dreaded Art and Home Ec class in Grade School! I'm more of a digital artist, but this handmade movement has got me hooked. They only have limited supplies of certain things though despite the variety. I hope they restock with more colors for the brush pens soon!

My friends ordered Iced Mocha, Iced Black, Cold Brew, Strawberry Frappe and Ube cake. As for me and my posh friend, I ordered Sumatra while he ordered Civet coffee. It's a little sweet, a bit acidic and fruity in flavor. I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. Located above the Rustan's Supermarket on P. Guevarra, the café is quiet compared to the busy street below and gets tons of natural light from the building's all-glass facade. Great plus for me as it made the place have a very airy feel which went great with the painted concrete floors and industrial seating. The coffee was great too! I got their cold-brew coffee and it was a solid cup of cold-brew. Nothing out of the ordinary but it wasn't offensive. The price was great though! At least 30 pesos less than a comparable brew from one of the third wave stalwarts. They also have a lot of differently sourced beans to choose from, with even a Filipino Benguet option! So even though it might not have same pretentious or hipster vibes that we have come to expect from many of the other third wave purveyors here in Manila, I love how laidback this place is. You can definitely get a lot done here. Cash only!! There are ATMs downstairs though if you're in a pickle.
