I have had a hard time finding a dentist I could trust throughout the years . I fortunately found Dr. Bui at UCare Dental. I had 2 teeth, each had broken in half. Needless to say it was uncomfortable and embarrassing because I had a hard time eating and they were in my smile line. Dr. Bui took on my dental mess. He made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process and told me to raise my hand if I needed something. I felt he was very compassionate. Dr. Bui and the whole UCARE Dental staff were kind, considerate and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate referring his office to my friends and family. He does excellent work. If you can, please stay far far away from Dr. Hien Bui. After getting a procedure performed by Bui, I needed to go to another dentist to correct his unprofessional dental work. Luckily, I feel 95% better now, no thanks to Dr. Hien. If you are looking for an excellent review, please really consider my recommendation and avoid this shady Dentist office. This dentist doesn't care about you, I learned this the hard way. And he just wants to scam you money, way above the actual cost. Worst dental work I have ever experienced in my life. I just wanted to get my teeth whitening and check for cavities. Not go through pain, discomfort and depression for a whole month. If you are looking for a new dentist, please ask your pastor, co-worker or closest friends for a review of a good dentist. Dr. Hien Bui is one of the worst dentists in San Diego and absolutely not a good dentist. He is a scam artist and really should not be doing any dental work on anybody. First, he tells you do procedures that are completely unnecessary and then he overcharges for the procedures. Mr. Bui knows that you probably don't know anything about the price of dental work such as crowns or cleaning. The insurance knows though. :) How can x-rays and a teeth cleaning cost $495?!! I had a good experience with Dr. Bui. He has helped me and my family with different problems, broken teeth, implant, crown... usually I'm very picky in term of dentist. I always pick the one that has good credentials and most importantly does gently on my teeth, especially when my procedure has to involve with numbness shot... I stop going here since 2019. The office only wants to work with their schedule. I would request a day off to make the appointment, they would call to ask to reschedule because they are not available at that time. My time is available for them 3 months later. This happened 3 times with them. They would call to ask to come earlier so they can close early that day. It is convenient for them. It is annoying to have to change my schedule for them. I should not reschedule every time just for them. What happened to customer service and work with my availability? This is why I stop going to the office. Another thing is annoying is that they would call to remind me of the appointment the same week about 4 times before your actual appointment day. Annoyance will drive the clients away. read more

My husband just went to this dentist for a check up. They want to schedule him back for a deep cleaning and they told my husband that the deep clean was going to be $850 co-pay. So far so good. A lot of people around me did not have the same Delta Dental Plan from my employer so I had to just straight up look up the dentists on my own. I enjoy the fact after years of different dentists that this facility is up to date in their technology. Dr. Bui is quite friendly and does not feel pushy. I have had to go in and get a filling refilled in this one pesky molar. I cannot tell if he's just milking me but right now it feels fine. He is hoping that maybe the nerve will heal on it's own as in it's not severe enough for a crown and all that. The hygienists are friendly and thorough. I also would like to say they do a good job on the six month cleaning. My last dentist was sloppy and not thorough at all. I do enjoy that sometimes after your visit, Dr. Bui's office will send you off with a toothbrush and mini toothpaste. Be warned, he is kinda inconsistent in thoroughly explaining the charges verbally but they display the receipt and the itemized charges to you. read more

When you schedule an appointment to get a regular cleaning, most people would expect to take off work, get some X-rays, and then get...a regular cleaning. I guess that's not how it works at Ucare. Dr Bui kept insisting on a deep cleaning at my regular cleaning visit, which I'm perfectly happy to get at a later date at a separate appointment. However, even after telling him that I scheduled a regular cleaning and that's all I wanted today, he only offered to do a deep cleaning. Going to dental checkups was never pleasant for me until I met Dr. Bui. My first experience here was probably from a year or two ago. I have cavities, I never flossed in the past, and I thought deep cleaning after each visit was good enough. Totally WRONG of me to think that, huh? Anyways, on my first visit, he asked me if I flossed daily. When I said no, he just stopped what he was doing and told me to floss. He also told me that deep cleaning was a process that he didn't enjoy doing. So what I am trying to say is that he cares about you. I actually look forward to coming to every visit now! Dr. Bui is located in one of the business buildings past Qualcomm in Sorrento Valley. His office looks very clean, professional, and spacious. I think he got his degree from USC, but I don't remember for sure. I typically don't talk much when I'm at the dentist, but he's very helpful with answering your questions. He's also very polite. He tells you along the way about what he's going to do and he's also very gentle with your teeth. He used to work on Saturdays, but he doesn't anymore. I think he only reserves Saturdays for braces. Normally, when I switch jobs or insurances, I also switch dentists, but I think I found my dentist. read more

I am not one to write reviews, however the treatment (or lack thereof) that I received was unethical and I would not want anyone else to have this same experience. I saw Dr. Bui for the first time April 2014. At that time, x-rays were taken and Dr. Bui stated that I needed a root canal, but would be able to give me any more information without a deep cleaning (which is not included in my insurance). I was shocked that he would not even do a further examination at that time. The dental hygienist came in and did a surface cleaning, with the instructions that I should return within two weeks for a follow-up. When I returned Dr. Bui did the examination and told me I no longer needed the root canal. As a lay person, I did not understand how I went from needing this major dental procedure to not even a cavity that needed to be filled? Dr. Bui examined my gums and again stated I needed a deep cleaning. I let him know the $500 procedure was not feasible at this time, but I would consider it in the future. I scheduled my 6 month check up at that time and then went on my flossing way... Today, I showed up for my 6 month check up, only to be told that I was scheduled for the deep cleaning. I explained to the (very kind and polite) receptionist that I was there for the exam and check-up, and would discuss the deep cleaning. She consulted with Dr. Bui several times to confirm that he would not see me or even do an examination without the very expensive procedure happening first. It got to the point where Dr. Bui came out to speak to me directly and confirmed that he would not examine my teeth or do x-rays without me going through with the procedure. This man is unethical. I understand business practices and needing to be able to pay for your independent practice... I myself have my own business. At the same time, I also have to answer to ethical standards and was horrified by how Dr. Bui conducts his business. read more

Ok, Dr. Bui is the best dentist i have ever been to from the minute you walk in he makes you feel comfortable and understands that going to the dentist is not on the top of everyones fun list. He knows his stuff, he will give it to you strait and he cares about peoples teeth. He is honest and will tell you what needs to be done to fix your teeth, what can wait what can't if you are on a budget. I've been going to see Dr. Bui for several years now. He is the only dentist I've had that I actually liked. I followed him from the chain dentist office where he used to work to UCare Dental which he has been running for a while now. It's very modern and clean, with hardwood floors and fancy equipment like all-digital X-rays. They even have a flat screen playing movies in the waiting room, although I don't watch it much as they rarely keep me waiting longer than a few minutes (usually none at all). He is very patient and keeps a good balance between being proactive and conservative when dealing with my tooth problems, and he's very gentle with my overly sensitive teeth. He does let you make your own decisions, even if they're not exactly what he recommends. I'm very stubborn about major dental work, and if it's at all possible to avoid it he will defer to my choices (after discussing the pros and cons) and do the "wait and see" on iffy things like a tooth that could possibly need a crown. He's never tried to "hard sell" anything to me and answers all my clueless questions, even drawing pictures or using the plastic models to explain things thoroughly. I also appreciated that he was careful to match the color of my fillings to the actual color of my teeth. My past dentists always used the wrong shade which made them really obvious. Another reviewer said he was trained at USC, but I checked out his diplomas on the wall recently and he actually graduated from University of Pennsylvania dental school. Location is very convenient, right off Mira Mesa near the 805 near Qualcomm. Watch out for the red light camera at Scranton! I avoid it altogether by going around it on side streets: when exiting off the 805 North, keep going straight and then turn right on Mira Sorrento, then right on Scranton, left on Morehouse, left on Lusk. I mostly wrote this here because I keep forgetting and had to write it down somewhere. Six months seems to be long enough to forget things even if you've been doing it for years. read more

I went to Dr Bui's office today for the first time and Im so glad I did. I had a full check up, including x-rays. I anticipated having some minor work done after having a very bad incident with another dentist, and was recommended a deep cleaning. I trusted his opinion, and went ahead with the procedure. The girls who did the procedure were so, so nice and considerate of my nerves. They took their time and were very thorough and pleasant the entire time. Having a deep cleaning isn't the most pleasant experience, but my mouth now feels amazing. I would recommend anyone with fear or anxiety over dental work to go here. I'd like to thank Dr. Bui and his staff for the great services. I got a crown put on my broken tooth right after this Labor Day Weekend. I had been seeing Dr. Bui for two years, only for cleaning, so this was the first time I've ever had any major dental work done. Dr. Bui has an ability to digitally design and mill a crown in his office, so within two hours I was able to go back to work with a perfect crown. There was no pain during the procedure at all, amazing! Since the crown fits perfectly, I didn't have to go back for any adjustment. Their insurance billing is very accurate and clear. Recently got my wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Bui did a great job, fast and didn't feel no pain at all.

I had to pick a dentist from a list- scary right? I am very picky and have had great and bad dentists. I am happy to report I am VERY happy with Dr Bui. He goes on the GREAT list. I felt comfortable, he answered all my questions, my bill was what I expected, everyone was friendly, professional, and supportive. Little things: that bright light in your face- they have sunglasses- i didn't even know they would be appreciated. I like them a lot. I had to get a shot- normally I feel a little pinch- not bad, but still unsettling. Not with Dr. Bui- I didn't even know I had the shot. So I give him 5 out of 5 stars for his experience and kindness. I also got to talk to him and he is smart and interesting. He has traveled, learned in interesting places and I had a great visit. My teeth are clean and now I am not nervous for my next cleaning and check up. My whole family goes here now- my husband and 2 boys- 12 and 14 years old. They all are very happy with our dentist. I hope to never have to switch again. I recommend Dr. Bui 200%. If you are afraid of finding a new dentist- don't be with Dr. Bui- just let him know your concerns and he will be happy to answer your questions and make sure your are comfortable and clear. This guy is so awesome I didn't feel any pains or aches throughout the whole filling procedure. To me, my experience with Ucare Dental was awkful. Especially, if you have HMO dental plan, they will let you wait forever. My husband and I made an appointment a month ago, the dentist had us to wait for an hour and half. He knew that our insurance coverage is HMO , instead of PPO. It means he gets money by headcount in discounted rate. Therefore, he would prefer to see PPO coverage patience first. I am not even impressed by his customer service. Finally, I could go into the dental office. The non-English speaking dental assistant started to take x-ray for me. However, from what she was doing, i can tell she is not experience at all. Even though they are using the most high -technology, she has to retake and retake the x-rays for my teeth. And then, the dentist came to me and did not even do anything. He said that I need to have deep cleaning service. I kept my routine dental service for so long. My teeth is fine. NO NEED FOR DEEP CLEASNING. Dr. Bui said that I need to pay for around $500 after the insurance company pay for it. Well, at this point, I can tell he is trying to make money out of their patient. He keeps saying that my gums is not in good condition and I did not do my flossing correctly. Well, I clean and floss my teeth every day. After all, I decided to switch to the other dentist. I just want to contact them for a copy of all the x-rays that they claimed money from my insurance company. They want to charge me $25 for service fee. Well, again, money is the key to them. I would not suggest him as my primary dentist. Can you tell by the dental office decor? He is hanging all the gold color ancient Chinese money decor. $$$$$$$....He is so unethical and immoral. If it is possible, I'll give zero rating! My four year old daughter had an appointment at 4:00 PM but we were late by 15 minutes due to high traffic in the I-5. I called at 3:50 PM to the clinic and informed them that we are stuck in the traffic and hence running late by10 minutes. We reached the clinic at 4:15 PM and came to know that there is no doctor. They asked us to reschedule the appointment. The reason they told us that the doctor will not be get paid for the extra 10-15 minutes. Highly unpleasant experience and never come back again. I was impressed with the new technology this office has to offer. However I was not happy with the sales pitch I received from Dr. Bui. I understand that Dental school is not cheap but I'm not rich! I expected to have the regular cleaning on my first appointment but only received some x-rays, a lecture on flossing (which I do daily!) and a huge, huge quote on the New Deep Cleaning I Need to get! I thought I was at a used car dealership! I don't know if I'll be back. He seemed a bit pushy, not foe my sake but for his wallet! Dr. Bui did a good job on my bridge a few years ago when i lived in SD. However, he did a teeth whitening for me then too, and I was not happy with the results. My shade / color is very white naturally and so the improvement was not noticeable. The fee for the whitening was not inexpensive. I mentioned it to Dr. Bui , and he said yes, that's because your teeth are already white so that's the best we can do. I asked him why he didn't tell me that before putting me thru that procedure and prior to yet another few hundred onto my bill like it's water . I had already paid this office thousands, for the dental work I needed .I requested a refund for the whitening only . I felt he should have represented the possible outcomes prior to doing the procedure. He asked me to sign a waiver before he did the whitening , but i was loopy from the nitrous oxide . In any case, i let it go . I truly expected he'd do the right thing and refund the whitening. I was clearly mistaken here . But I moved on . put it behind me . Few years have passed and I'm living in OC now . I spoke on the phone with Dr Bui about doing two crowns for me . I wanted to speak with him personally because it's a long drive for him to just look in my mouth and give me the estimate . Dr. Bui said he'd get back to me with an estimate/ quote by the following week. He never called me back. Rather , I received an email from the UCARE dental team stating: "It has become apparent because of a breakdown in our doctor-patient relationship, which is necessary for optimal care; your dental needs would be better met elsewhere." Dr. Bui clearly was not looking at my file when we spoke on the phone two weeks ago, and he was discussing my current treatment . Apparently I was not allowed to tell Dr. Bui I was unhappy with the teeth whitening. I therefore would not recommend this office . Some things in life are unforeseen . We need a dentist who will be accepting of the bumps and work thru the kinks , even if it means swallowing the cost of a teeth whitening , especially with a client who's already paid thousands !!! read more

I enjoyed going to this office. It's very neat and clean. Dr. Bui was very gentle and answered all my questions. They have a machine that makes crowns so, one visit for a crown, was really amazing. This place is affordable for xrays,teeth cleaning and fillings even if you have no insurance. Dr bui is friendly and knows his stuff. He charges less than other places and will give you good deals. This place is not out to get your money. This place actually cares about your teeth. I do highly recommend this place. I've been coming here for years. All the staff are very friendly. Its a great place to go. They don't do things that are not necessary just to get your money. They let you know if you actually need it or not. They also let you know if you need braces and what's recommended. When I had braces, Bui did my cleaning and checked how my braces are doing and to see if there was any mess ups on the orthodontist part. I know of people that work as a dentist or dentist assistant and I can confirm that they do not charge much if you have no insurance. Good pricing here.
