AVOID THIS DENTIST LIKE THE PLAGUE!! I was recently assigned to this dentist by my provider, and I wanted to schedule a simple teeth cleaning. This dentist tried to add additional services that I don't need! They wanted to do x-rays so they could recommend more services? ARE YOU F*ING KIDDING ME?? PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOU NEED TO X-RAY ME FOR A BASIC TEETH CLEANING??? Not to mention, the staff here is completely unprofessional. I've called several times this week to schedule an appointment. I would highly recommend this office to any family and friends. I was treated so well during my first visit. The staff are all very friendly and truly show that they care for patients. The dentist is very nice and was patient with me during the numbing. I am very scared of needles but he managed to help me stay calm and I didn't even feel it! Such gentle hands. How can I add more stars?? Dr. Tong was knowledgeable and gentle. I really liked the fact he took time to educate me and guide me on how to go about getting the right work done on my teeth. I got a cleaning and x-rays done at Pacific Dental and I was impressed with the level of professionalism I experienced and really felt like they cared for my comfort and experience. My insurance was checked before i got there and everything was explained. I received my explanation of benefits and everything was accurate. This was my family dentist for years. The practice here was traumatic hence why I avoided going to the dentist for years. They will not take in any consideration of your pain/sensitivity. You can cry and they will "slap" you to quite crying as a kid. I have now found a way much more lovely dentist to go to who is gentler and transparent about prices. read more

I have been with Dr. Tong for the last 5 yrs. The first few visits were great. And some how over the years, I found myself trusting his opinions 100%. Never once did I doubt his expertise. Over the last 5 yrs, I had at least a crown done a year, and one year he convinced me to do a bridge. And mind you I was still in my youthful 20s . In retrospect , these were some of the worst dental decisions I ever made. I am still under 30 and have a mouthful of crowns and bridges. The straw that broke the camel's back was this past year. I asked him about my wisdom tooth that is fully grown. He said he can refer me to an oral surgeon but its not urgent and that I dont need to remove it right away. He steered my attention to something else though ... I had two silver fillings in the back bottom right. He insist that I remove the silver and get crowns so my teeth can match. With a mouthful of fake teeth already, I respectfully declined. He went ahead and had the insurance approve the procedure. In addition, he recommended that I got veneers for the front top row because I "needed it??!!" Really ?? !! Veneers ? !! My teeth seriously arent that rotten, and I really dont have to smile for the big screen. Why Veneers ? I declined again. He went ahead and had the insurance approve that too. Every few months the receptionist will remind me to come in and get my veneers and crowns because the insurance approved them.... Uh Huh .... sure. Milk my insurance dry why dont you. Anyway - I left this office this week and had my first visit with my new dentist. During the exam, I naively told her I needed a crown or veneers for the front ( Per Dr. Tong's opinions). She looked at my tooth and said I only needed a filling, not a crown or veneers. She pointed out to xrays that were sent from Dr Tong's office. She showed me a cavity in the front that should have been treated during my last visit at Dr. Tongs! ! He made no mention of a cavity. All he keep selling me on was $$$$ veneers $$$$ and $$$$crowns $$$$. I'm so upset .... The new dentist asked me yesterday ... "What was the reasoning behind getting a bridge?" In all honesty, I dont know. I just trusted the guy. I remember pleading and telling Dr. Tong I dont want a bridge please..... He highly recommended this lengthy procedure to 'save my teeth.' Yes, he sure saved all my teeth. Thanks for a mouth full of crowns and bridges. I have never been more disappointed. Bottom Line ... dont come here if you want honest, ethical teeth work. I've been coming to see Dr. Tong for over 5 years now to take care of my teeth, and will probably keep going to see him until I, if I ever, leave San Diego. Overall, Dr. Tong and his staff are efficient if anything. Dr. Tong himself is an amiable, and easy-going guy who likes to crack jokes. I think it keeps the atmosphere light because I, like most people, don't really enjoy dental work. The office has grown to employ more people in the front and back, and good thing, because I remember when I first started going there, there was only one front office assistant, and understandably, she would seem rushed, and impatient will all the patients that she had to take care of. Now there's a nice lady who does all the appointments and reminders only. And the location is great if you like Vietnamese food! read more

I really appreciate Melissa for her customer care and professionalism. She has become my go to person when I get my teeth cleaned and I always make sure to ask for her. My teeth always feel super clean every time and I always feel that I'm getting the best experience after each visit. Dr. Tong is very good at what he does. He's always very calm which helps calms his patients remain calm throughout the procedure(s). I grew up going to Asian doctors and dentist and just didn't enjoy the experience being under their care. However, I'm glad Dr. Tong was able to change my perception, as he is a talented and caring dentist. My first experience here was great . I had a thorough, comprehensive exam & cleaning, and the Doctor -- Dr. Tong -- was very friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the second time was not. I came for just a cleaning, since I'm between jobs and don't have insurance. (I've done this before, no problem). Normally, for what I know as a "cleaning," the dental hygienist is supposed to spend a good 30 min. at least doing standard things like flossing your teeth, scaling (the sharp scraper thing) and polishing. The ONLY thing she did was spend a lousy FIVE MINUTES polishing my teeth and then said that the doctor was going to come in to examine me. He looked around in my mouth for a few minutes, did some very minimal scraping/poking himself and told me that everything looks good. I asked the hygienist why she didn't do any of the typical procedures I mentioned before and she said that it's not included in a basic cleaning. Bizarre. BOTTOM LINE: I GOT CHARGED $85 FOR A 5-MINUTE POLISH. After talking to some people who've worked in the field, they told me that some hygienists are not part of an office -- they're just contracted and sometimes try to get away with just a polish and charge a lot of money. I don't know if this is the case or not for Pacific Dental, but I wouldn't doubt it. So yeah, it's such a shame because although the dentists themselves seem great and I would give THEM a 5-star review, I'm very unhappy with the overall establishment. Someone must be missing a chip in order for them to think that's somehow ok. To their credit, the office staff did handle the situation very professionally when I called back and asked for a refund. Their staff at the front desk are all rude. I called to try and cancel an appointment (weeks in advance) being courteous instead of not showing up and they hung up on me. I will make sure my all my friends and family will never step foot in this Dental office again! By the way this Yelp review is proof that I called in multiple times to try to cancel an appointment for my mom and sister, but since you don't know how to provide quality service and continue to hang up on people there better not be any late cancellation fees or I will take further action. Staff is nice but they tried telling me that my insurance would not pay for my husband's crown. Called the insurance and said, of course we will pay for his crown!! Between this back and forth, insurance recommended I switch dentists. Switched dentists, my husband got his crown and it was nowhere near the recommended price of $700 that they quoted me. They also said he needed a deep cleaning but the new dentist doesn't think he needs a deep cleaning at all either. Something is a little off about how they bill insurance, glad I switched dentists and my husband was able to get the necessary treatment he needed. read more

I've been going to Dr. Tong for several years now and he always gets the job done. The staff and techs are very friendly and always striking small conversations. Dr. Tong himself is very professional but is also very friendly, and it's obvious he cares his patients. I spent five years with another dentist in Mira Mesa. All they ever did was try to talk me into getting my teeth whitened (and they always look very white anyway...I don't smoke or drink). I finally got my teeth whitened and hated the experience. Then I didn't like how that company ran their business, so I went to a series of other dentists until I happened upon these guys. I've now been going here for five years. They're profession. They're nice. And the price they charge me for my teeth cleaning twice a year is great (I don't have dental insurance). I originally came in when i spotted Dr. Tong's name on my insurance list of providers, since we have matching last names, we probably were related in someway, Tong being one of the rarer Asian/Vietnamese last names, i thought why not throw family some business. That was 8, maybe 10 years ago. Turns out my regular dentist became Dr. Le since his schedule and my appointments coincided better then with Dr. Tong. I have been very happy with Dr. Le and he has given great service over the years. His staff has been polite and I have gotten to know some of them on a first name basis. I don't know if i am abnormal in the pain area but i feel it and Dr. Le knows that and is willing to make sure i am numb before he starts the work (yes more shots, the horror). My teeth were pretty bad when i first started with him. He pulled out a bad tooth, literally had to crack it and yank it out since i have very deep roots. I know he knows his stuff since i see some old FOB Asians in there and i know they have some pretty crappy teeth. If they keep on coming back he MUST be doing something right. Dr. Le is the bartender of dentists, he's always ready to chat, in Vietnamese or English. Sports, relationships, life in general, he keeps up the banter to keep your mind off the fact that their are 8 fingers, a drill, and a suction tube all your mouth. He does have one bad side though, he's a USC Trojan alumni/fan. i can't hold it too much against him since he is still crying about Pete Carrol going to the pro's. All in All they have grown in the community and are a busy office. I will stick with them as long as I stay in the area. We have been patients of Dr Le for 2 years now and we are very happy with him. He is professional, knows how to make you feel comfortable no matter what age you are and also very flexible to your needs. Our toddler loves going to Dr Le and getting her teeth cleaned while watching cartoons and leaving with a goodie bag every time :) Did i mention he's open on Saturdays?! Huuuge PLUS for us! Big thanks to the front desk staff for doing their job!! They let us know exactly what is covered by our insurance before they see us. They never give you the run around! Which is a big reason why we had been Dentist shopping for a while, after getting huge bills from other dental offices after we were seen and had been told all our care was covered by the insurance. They keep the office very clean and looking nice! And they are also in a cool location (many places to eat at all around) and a good parking lot to the front of the office and behind as well. Over the years I had visited my same childhood dentist. Unfortunately the service at the office went downhill. I had to return multiple times for different procedures as simple as one visit for X-rays and a different one for cleaning. Visiting the dentist is never a pleasant experience but I have to say, I've been to this office twice and I've had an excellent experience. Really changed my perspective of the usual dreadful dentist visit. The office staff is very clear on how your insurance works. I would love to shout out Lani, Deises and Melissa for being so kind! This is by far one of the best dental practices if not the best I've encountered. I've always had a thing about going to the dentist, it was always a phobia of mine. I've been coming here for about 8 years. I had dental insurance that gave me two cleanings a year for free. When that insurance company went out of business, I started going here on my own dime. I get my teeth cleaned twice a year, and am very happy with the price they charge. They spent a lot of time on my teeth, and the doctor is polite and professional. The few times we've talked about movies or other subjects, I enjoyed. Yet he doesn't do that thing other dentists do where they try to talk to you and you have a mouth full of tubes and things -- making it rather difficult. The staff is all very professional. I especially like that when they call me the day before to remind me of my appointments, I often call back to cancel (it's so difficult making an appointment for 6 months down the road). I like that they don't try to pressure me into getting lots of procedures. Other dentists have done this in the past, and they always come across like used car salesmen. I will recommend these folks to anybody looking for a dentist. (also, huge parking lot in the strip mall, which is a bonus). read more

The staff are all friendly and chatty, and helpful every time I had a question that needed answering. I love that they're open late - it's great for people like me who can't really leave work early. They're also very accommodating in terms of scheduling - I've had to cancel a few times, just because (like another reviewer mentioned) it is hard to keep an appointment you've made four/six months prior. This has been my dental office of choice for the past couple of years, and so far I have no complaints. The front desk personnel is very friendly and accommodating. They always try to work with my schedule to fit in an appointment. The doctors and the hygienists are professional and thorough. What I love the most about this place (and I have to say, it's so rare among the dentists these days) is that they tell you the truth! Pacific Dental are my local rock stars of dentistry! I have been seeing Dr. Le for several years now and will not change as long as I am living in the area! I was going to a different dental provider in the Carmel Mountain area and hated it. The staff there were rude and dismissive. It was a true money hustle. Since dropping them and choosing Pacific Dental I could not be more excited to visit the dentist! Dr. Le is one cool cat! He spends time with you and really ensures your oral health is on point. He knows you by name and remembers your story, sports teams, interests and dude he is on point with sports... Like all sports! I also never feel that I am never being swayed into services I don't need like the place I used to go to. Never been hit with surprise charges. Now to the front office staff... They are awesome too, the ladies in the front are very nice, polite, professional and not to mention beautiful! They always greet me and honestly everyone that came in after me were treated the same way and its that friendliness and care that contribute in a huge way to make this a great dental office. I tried to give this office a chance but it was a very disappointing experience. The front desk girl, Lani she needs an attitude check. From the moment I scheduled an appointment with her to the time I walked into the office for my appointment she just had a very nasty attitude and was very disrespectful. No one greeted me as I walked through the door nor did they ask how my day was. I couldn't even finish filling out my paperwork and the X-ray tech called me in. I repeatedly informed her that I just had my X-ray done less than six months ago but she insisted that I needed to get it done. Instead of her asking me kindly to go to the front so the ladies can get information from my previous dentist, she also gave me attitude and said, "well you have to go to the front and have the front desk help you because I have nothing to do with that." I ended up cancelling my appointment and scheduled an appointment with my previous Doctor that is located out of my way because I'd rather drive further for better service. I tried to call to speak with the Doctor directly before I wrote this Yelp review but the ladies said I'm not allowed to speak with the Doctor. All in all, Do not ever give this office the time of day or your money because they can't even offer good/descent customer service to begin with. read more

Watch out and don't go there if you are using Dental insurance! They will hit you by charging you extra on top of what your insurance won't pay, and they will fake it to the insurance Co. The insurance co. told me they are not in compliant with the contract and by you signing their agreement, you are liable for the extra charges. They recommend that I should seek another Dentist. We went there for the first time to do a simple teeth cleaning. But they didn't do it. Dr Le diagnose us both as having gingivitis, infections and needed to do deep cleaning. The thing is they had us signed an agreement. Their office clerk Vanessa is not telling you the truth, anything over $500 has to be submitted to the Insurance Co. for approval (ours was $1300 %^^&*?) Per Insurance Co. for deep clean per quadrant should be $50 ea (should be $200). 5 months ago we had out teethes cleaned and was in good shape (paid cash) with no problem. Since then we purchased Unitedhealthcare/Pacifc care dental insurance). I've checked, with insurances some Dentist will rip you off and do deep cleaning, etc... but not like this greedy office, they'll bill the insurance co. and make you paid the extra! I guess he has to pay for his USC college student loan off and his Porsche. I went to College too, and am not a fool and didn't fall off a turnip truck. My wife is from oversea, and some people take advantage of people like that, it's unfortunate. Remember You have rights; we just paid the $5 office visit each and left that place. read more

From half ass cleanings by an assistant and then a 10 second once over by Dr. Tong, the awful visits only got worse when I was told I had a cavity, came in a week later to have it fixed, and somehow I now have two cavities and the one that was supposed to be fixed has disappeared. On one occasion I called needing an appointment because I was having tooth pain. The incompetent receptionist put me on hold twice for over a minute each time to find my file and came back with "Uh, um well, we're like kinda busy and don't have space until next Thursday. It's like really busy." I changed dentists that night and got in the next day to a new one. Turns out I cracked my tooth. I do not trust them. They honestly are horrible. read more

I am new patient with effective dental benefit date 10/1/2014 as per my insurance card so I went personally to the dental office to set up my first appointment however they didn't have my records so I called my dental insurance to fax the letter of my eligibility(Friday), come on Monday I was excited to schedule my appointment. I called the dental office to find out if they received my eligibility - to my dismay whoever answered my phone call was not friendly, caring and I didn't feel welcome at all because she said I need to call my dental insurance again and request to fax my eligibility benefits, she got my phone number and promised to call me once my eligibility has been received. Here comes her phone call - I answered it nicely, she asked me if I can come the next day so I said no because I will be working on the following day, she then advised me without any hesitation to look for another dental office. Wow! I couldn't believe what I heard from her - dragging away your potential patient is way too far, rude, disrespectful and blatantly arrogant! Stay away from this dental office! Period! read more

If you want to deal with dentists who do not listen to your concerns and like to milk your insurance for everything its worth, then you want Pacific Dental in Mira Mesa. Dr. Tim Le will make sure you have to return for a second visit every time for procedures like crowns - which, against all odds, never fit on the first try for any of your family members. Never experienced this with any other dentist, so it seems it "never fits" so the insurance company can be billed for another visit. Also your insurance company will be billed for visits and procedures never done. Need special documentation for your insurance? I've been a patient of Dr. Tong's for many years, and have referred family and friends. I don't have a doubt in my mind that Dr. Tong is honest and that he really cares for his patients. I've had two crowns done by him and its the best dental work I've ever had (and that's including La Jolla dental offices).
