My mom has been seeing Dr Daniel Morelli at UBMD Family Medicine for many years. I accompany to her to these visits because she is elderly. I have always found Dr Morelli to be a fantastic listener. He is thorough and answers all Mom's and my questions until he is certain we understand. To my recollection, there has never been a long wait while getting in to see the doctor. The waiting room is large and comfortable, but I've never seen more than a couple other people in there. I don't think we've ever waited longer than three minutes ourselves. Once we are taken back to the examination room, the wait is also very short. I was torn between a 4 and a 5, and there are no half stars on Yelp, so just know this is more of a 4.5. The only reason I take a portion away is because until very recently, it's been super difficult to get someone on the phone. We've always had to leave a message, but very recently, I've gotten someone every time I've called. I don't know if that's luck or if they've hired more people or changed some of their practices regarding incoming calls. Just know, you may have to leave a message and wait for a return call. My mom typically would have to drive over to their office to ask whatever question she has or to make an appointment. (Granted, she's 87 and is not only less patient than she used to be, she also struggles with the phone menu. Switching screens on her phone is a foreign idea to her, and she never really knows which number to press even if she somehow accidentally finds the keyboard screen.) Dr. Morelli's staff has also been extremely helpful to me when I've needed it, and shows they truly care about the patients. read more

I've been a UBMD patient for 10+ years, and unfortunately the communication has gotten worse over time. I never received a call back about a work letter I requested months ago, and last year I even ended up leaving two separate appointments because the doctor took over an hour to see me. Recently, I went in for my yearly physical and left feeling frustrated, confused, and honestly shocked by the whole experience. I waited about 45 minutes, saw a student first, and then the doctor spent maybe five minutes with me. During that time she briefly mentioned something called a "Brook program," but didn't explain what it was. At the end of the appointment, she walked me into another room and told Russell (I'm still not sure of his title), right in front of me, that I was "very interested," even though I had no idea what the program even involved. Russell gave a very vague explanation of the program, and when I asked for more details, the only response I received was, "They'll call you to see what you qualify for." I still don't know who "they" are or what the program actually entails. Despite that, he immediately asked if I wanted to sign up for "the whole shabang." I was also told that if I wanted to enroll later, I should text him directly because he blocks incoming calls, which didn't sit right with me at all. What made this even more unsettling is that months ago I received a completely random call saying my doctor had "sent a script" for this exact program- something I had never discussed with anyone. At the time, I genuinely thought it was a scam call because nothing about it made sense. The entire encounter felt less like healthcare and more like someone trying to sell me something. I can't emphasize enough how much it felt like being upsold at a car dealership rather than speaking with medical professionals I've trusted for over a decade. The pressure, the lack of information, and the way I was shuffled around made me seriously question why this program was being pushed so hard. It definitely made me wonder if there is some sort of incentive or partnership tied to it, because nothing about the experience felt patient-centered or transparent. What concerns me most is how easily an older or less tech-savvy patient could be talked into signing up for something they don't understand. If I walked out feeling confused and pressured, I can only imagine how someone more vulnerable might feel. After more than a decade with this practice, this experience made it very clear- it was time for me to switch providers. I went to a new doctor today, and the difference was night and day. I was seen and out within 30 minutes and had a simple, straightforward conversation about my health. No vague programs, no pressure to sign up for anything- just a normal doctor-patient visit. I have been a patient here for over 30 years. Dr. David Thomas was an amazing physician! I had no complaints for the first 20 years or maybe a little more. My husband is a patient, my kids grew up as patients, even my first grandchild was delivered by Dr. Thomas! Things started to change about 10 years ago. It started getting more difficult to get appointments. If I contacted Dr. Thomas directly I didn't have a problem, so I let it go. Dr. Thomas retired and we were transferred to a different physician. I still have no complaints with the physician - just the rest of the staff. As time went by it became more difficult to get prescription refills done in a timely manner. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes and communication became more important than ever. Unfortunately, communication began to become more sporadic and difficult around the same time. Even with repeated complaints - it takes a week or more to get prescription refills, days for anyone to return your call and if you need a pre-authorization for your insurance you may as well forget it because it will takes weeks of following up and nagging to get anything done. It saddens me to say that after more than three decades I am seriously considering leaving this practice. read more

The worst office ever. I have been going there for many years. I am a nurse. I had a doctor i liked until he supposedly retired?? But he passed me off to another new doctor who i am still holding judgment on but when I thought I liked him?? He would communicate via portal, that I liked. But I then found out I was actually speaking with the incompetent LPNs at the practice. They lie, when they stated they put prior auth in for 2 medications for me that I have proof because it's in writing (portal) and the insurance never recieved anything. My mom's primary care physician is Doctor Roseanne Berger. She specializes in old people. You is warm, compassionate, brilliant, kind, extremely knowledgeable, and a total and absolute joy to know. My Mom has mental illness, she is a narcissist. She loves attention from doctors. She is difficult. She sometimes does not do what the doctors tell her to do. My Mom is 89 and I love her dearly but caring for an older person can be extremely, extremely difficult. I use the portal for some of my communication with Roseann. I love, love, love the whole concept of portals. Roseanne is a powerful miracle. She is a good soul and a healing person. UB Medical runs like a Swiss watch. The wait time is always less than 5 minutes. I believe that 80 percent of health is healthy habits and a positive attitude. I live with my Mom. I love her and she loves me. I am in her corner and she is in my corner. She is very aware of how much I love her. I truly believe that this helps her be healthy. Like the Beatles sang "All you need is Love". I love my Mom and it helps. Roseanne loves my Mom. I believe this very strongly. Roseanne is a loving, organized, caring, healing person. God cut us a break when we found our way to UB Med. Another Doctor at the practice is Bob Macek, MD. He is my family doctor. Talk about a miracle. At the end of my annual physical he gave me a hug. Blew my mind. He gave me plenty of time to ask questions. I am a schizophrenic so he was probably a bit frightened I would be a problem. I said stress can do strange things to the mind. He agreed. Dr. Macek always always gets back to me about my problems. I tip the scale at 263 and he NEVER, EVER, EVER shames me of makes me feel pressure to lose the weight. Clearly if I want to be healthy I must lose the weight. Dr. Macek is extremely extremely brilliant. Really, really. Medicine is now very, very, very computerized. I had no clue Doctors must have such trust in each other to be effective. Being a doctor now a days can be brutal just brutal. I do everything Dr. Macek asks me to do except eat right. If you're a completely healthy person without any problems, this place is A+ for just getting an annual physical. Otherwise they could improve. My mother has called several times over the past month regarding concerns with a medication. She was having insomnia as a side effect. Secretary kept telling her a nurse or some other medical staff would get back to her. Nobody reached her until she made a complaint. As for myself, I've also had times in the past where I had difficulty in getting to communicate with the right staff. They also charged me last year, for filling out a form during my physical appointment. Their policy says they should only charge if you request forms to be filled without an appointment. read more

First time going there and my 40 dollar bill for a few months ago and the bill was pending insurance payment (lastI heard) and the next thing I knew, I got a notification from a collection agency for payment. The collection agency even said what happened here was wrong. I am contacting New York to look into this issue. Amazing way to treat a new patient. read more

I had an annual physical appt yesterday. The doctor told me he is ordering labs to have done at Quest. At check out I am provided with nothing. I assume the order is a digital order. I arrive at quest the next morning and they have no digital order. I call the office and tell them my issue. They transfer me to a line which prompts to leave a message and they will return my call by the end of the business day. It is 8:45am. I am already at Quest. Garbage. read more

The doctors here are fine. When I got my recent physical my doctor was nothing but kind to me. But, if you ever need your medical records sent to a place of employment, you better just give up. I have left numerous voice memo's to the medical records office because no one answers the phone there. I have not received any word back from them in over a month and am getting quite annoyed. I have now had to resort to going somewhere else to get my physical done so they can send it over to my place of employment. So annoying! read more

After 25+ years with UB Family Medicine, I finally had enough. I was listed as a patient of Dr. David Newberger, but for the first 20 years all I got to see was a different doctor at every appointment which was once every 6 months.. It was only the last 5 years since my horrific work accident and having all my bills paid by Compensation that I was able to see David Newberger. Even then, he milked me for all that it was worth. Once a month visits for Comp and once a month visits for Primary Care. He insisted that he take over all the work paid by Compensation that was being done by specialists that I was seeing for my injury and cutting my ties with them i.e.: Neurology, Orthopedic, Pain Management, etc.. It seemed like a good idea until I discovered that he would forget to refill prescriptions, loose medical files that I watched my surgeon send and inform me that he never got them, or he would send my necessary C4.3 Compensation paperwork to the wrong places. As far as pain management, he believes everything can be fixed with 20mg of Oxycodone 6 times a day. The office staff was always somewhat pleasant, but always acted overworked and over tired. I always brought the Tim Horton gift cards on every visit. Recently, to cut cost of paying professional office staff, the practice hired a young girl named Jennifer who has no clue what is going on in the medical world. On two separate occasions, she tried to multi-task while on the phone with me and taking care of a patient in front of her. Besides that action being in violation of the HIPPA Law, she could not handle two patients at once and became confused ending up sarcastic to both of us. The last draw was during a phone call when I asked to speak to the Nurse's staff regarding a Compensation matter about a prescription authorization, she stated that she could handle the problem. She acted like she knew what I was talking about, but she kept insisting it was a problem for billing and asked me what a C4.3 was. when I asked to transfer to the nurse, she asked me if I knew the nurse's number, because she didn't have time. She then hung up on me. I realize that this is a business and their main goal is to make as much money as they can the fastest way possible, but somewhere along the line they lost sight of the Hippocratic Oath and why they became doctors. If it was for just making money, I think they would profit more from selling bagels. read more

I have been going here ever since I was a kid. The nurses spend too much time talking to each other rather than taking care of their patients. They are also very rude and judgmental. I gave an extra star for the rare nurses I had that were actually nice. But the doctors don't seem to care or listen to me when I tell them that something needs attention. They almost ALWAYS send me on my way with Ibuprofen and nothing else. I have 4 bottles of that stuff that helped me in no way. Ibuprofen can not fix everything but a good caring staff can. Just like any other UB Medical facility the drs are good but the service and staff are HORRIBLE! I am writing this review right now while I am on hold to schedule an appointment. Currently I am caller #3 on hold. This is my third time calling today AND SO FAR NOW I HAVE BEEN IN HOLD OVER 6 MINUTES AND THEY JUST SAID I AM STILL CALLER NUMBER 3. MAYBE THE DRS SHOULD NOT LIVE IN HALF MILLION DOLLAR HOMES AND CAN HIRE SOMEONE TO ANSWER THE PHONE! It's pretty bad. Pros: Will get you in the day or if you feel sick & need an appointment. Nice staff. Cons: Incompetent doctors. So far they: 1) forgot to send my prescribed script on Friday so I had to wait until Monday. I was sick the whole holiday weekend when I didn't have to be just because someone was too lazy or incompetent to hit send on a prescription. 2) sent my script to the wrong pharmacy. I waited at a pharmacy for hours, they had no clue why the script wasn't popping up. The next night a different pharmacy (not different address like entirely different company) called that they had a script for me. Again sicker than I had to be. 3) lost my blood work. Yup the bloodwork to see if I was going to die or not went missing. 4) called to get my prescription refilled & they gave me an entirely different prescription that I didn't need. Great. Thanks. How is that legal or ok? What if I was allergic or had a drug interaction? 5) got offered a breast exam when I had heartburn. No thank you. 6) lost my blood work!!!!! When I called to inquire about a test they had no idea what I was talking about. I asked if the dr could call me back..... 2 months later I get a script for "routine. Chest tightness. With a lot of numbers" I called to inquire about this 2 weeks ago. I am still waiting. read more

I LOVE Dr. Gugino as a pediatrician and a Family Doctor. My husband and I lived in Amherst, NY for about 6 months. We move around the country for his work and it is hard to switch doctors all the time. We had our baby in Amherst and quickly chose a pediatrician. We were so lucky to find her! She was amazing with our newborn (at that time which was in July, 2014) and she took the time to be with him. She was not one of those doctors who is in and out and seemed to be in a hurry she actually took the time to pay attention to us and our needs and questions. They have a lot of students there as well and she always asked us if it was okay if their student at the time could join us and I am all for learning and educating so I gladly said yes but even the students were very kind. Everyone in the office always said hello to us and was very kind. Dr. Gugino is very personable and I love that because that is very hard to find. When my son was born she was in the hospital every morning that we were there to check in on us. She did not deliver my baby because I went somewhere else for my OB (only because I didn't know they did OB/GYN there) She always consulted with the veteran doctors there to make sure she was doing the right things and I liked that a lot because more heads put together is great when you have medical issues going on. My baby had really bad acid reflux and she helped us get on a great management with medications. We were also enrolled in their online medical site so that we could see our records and appointments and such and if we ever emailed her she was very quick to email us back. I was sad that we had to leave because now I am not to happy with our new pediatrician. Dr. Gugino also saw my husband and I as a regular GP and we were very pleased with her. The nurses there are great and also are very personable. If we had moved an hour away I would drive just to go see her but sadly we are in another state.
