I've only rode an Uber in San Fran and it was a pretty awesome experience because we literally were able to call a cab from our phones and have it at the door within 15 seconds. I come from Hong Kong, where there are plenty of taxis on the street already and I understand how annoying it is to stand on the curb and wait for a taxi to come close to you, in addition to having the impolite people who run and try to steal your taxi even though you were already waiting for one for a good fifteen minutes. In San Fran, we were able to compare the Uber prices with another company called Lyft, so the Surge prices didn't really affect us, because when it was Surge, we would just revert to Lyft. The Uber app was pretty useful, because you can see where and who the driver is and see the route that the driver is taking to your destination, making sure that he or she is not driving you in circles if you are new to the area to earn more money as some taxi drivers do. In addition, the estimation for Uber app is really accurate, out of all the times we took it, it has never been out of the range. Of course, there's always the issue with insurance and whatnot and obviously that's something the government should decide; to take out the insurance fee for all taxi drivers or enforce the insurance fee for all Uber drivers. I don't want to take a standpoint on this topic, but I definitely recommend trying out Uber because of all the reasons I have listed. read more

The Good - Very easy to order up a "black cab", the SUV that showed up was very nice, and payment couldn't be easier. The Bad - He said he had arrived to pick me up, yet I still had to wait several minutes when I got to the curb. The Ugly - I am not sure the driver had a license, or any knowledge of the city streets. It was raining, and he didn't seem to know how to use the defogger, maybe that's why he almost drove off the road twice? He also didn't seem to be aware that Richmond was a one say street and that he would have to go further up Adelaide and turn around to get to my destination. read more

Used the car service two times in one night. Good and reliable experience both times. We had a bit issue locating our car. That was our very first time using Uber and we did not know what a black car should look like. The second driver's service was impressively outstanding. We were like riding a limousine! The driver came out and opened our doors and he was super friendly:) He gave me his name card. I should post his name card here if I find it! The Uber app let us see when our car was coming over near our location. My bf received a welcome credit when he registered for his Uber account. Both drivers let us use our credit without hassle. The Uber customer service is prompt and I am very impressed. I am going to use my $30 first ride next time, and am happy to keep using Uber whenever necessary. I'm reading all these one star reviews (even the not recommended ones!) and honestly, I'm like.. boooo, suck it up! OF COURSE there's surge pricing in times of need! It's a basic business concept of when demand is high, prices get higher. OF COURSE some drivers are unsafe- I'm sure we all have been at one point. But to give it a 1 star for this amazing service? You've got to be kidding me. I really enjoy uber, definitely over taxis anyday. The start rate is cheap and they always give you a fare estimate before you go- if it's not in your budget, then don't get in! Simple. They're reliable and it's great how they show you on the GPS where the driver is coming from + the license plate/model of the car so you can easily locate your driver. They also have different options like uber black, uber XL, uber eats, uber carpool and now uber WAV (which is wheelchair accessible vehicles!) Uber is still my fave wunderkinder when it comes to getting around town, and now they have the integrated Taxi option in Toronto. Apparently they have for a while... but I only realized it a few weeks ago when I used the Taxi option in DC. What's the Taxi option? It dispatches the nearest normal taxi you (like Beck or Crown) and Uber pays them directly through the info they have on you from their app. Cheaper and no fuss no muss. OK, so after the whole kerfuffle with getting set up, and not having anything working... I finally tried the service. Everything went pretty well. I used the black car service since that was what my discount was for. Requesting in the app took very little time. Note that the app will use your phone's GPS to determine your pick up location, but sometimes it's a bit off. You can edit the pick up location by typing in your exact address. The driver called me to let him know where he was when he got there since he didn't see me right away. I was being picked up at a very busy intersection, and waited in my building looking out for him... So make sure you always have enough battery left on your phone in case the driver needs to contact you! Very nice guy, picked me up in an Escalade and gave me a bottle of water. We made nice conversation all the way to my destination. It was great to not have to pay for anything as I got out, and within minutes I received my e-receipt that detailed the entire breakdown of costs, including duration, kilometres traveled, and average speed. Promotion was automatically taken off (yay). If I'm down in the core and there are cabs abound, I would probably just hail one. At first, I would only use Uber taxi, which on its own is a great way to get s taxi and pay credit card... Ever try to pay a taxi you called or flagged by credit card? Good luck with that! I started using Uber X, which is the lowest price and 80% of the time it's a great experience. Nice people, clean cars, and fast pick ups. Knowing when your car is arriving down to the minute is great, especially on these cold winter days! My problem rides had to do with dishonest drivers who claimed the drop off was further than it was. Thankfully the difference wasn't a lot, but it's a trip I take by Uber regularly so if the fare is off the average it's instantly noticeable. I wasn't thrilled with Uber customer service in this regard, they just arbitrarily decide the corrected fare which wasn't what I usually pay, and they email you a ton but the actual messages from humans don't seem to respond to your specific query. The honest drivers, convenience and lower than taxi rates will keep me using it. read more

I took Uber for the first time today and I have to say it was pretty awesome. Simply request a taxi (the app takes a few minutes to think), and you can see your taxi driving to your location on a map. The app will even show you a picture of your driver so there is no confusion.There are usually at least 3 Uber Black cars near Spadina and Adelaide. Uber sends you a text message when your driver is nearby. When you're at your destination, there is no need to fumble around for cash or change. Simply leave the taxi, and a receipt will be sent via email. $65 between downtown Toronto and Pearson airport. read more

As a traveller from Calgary, I've used Uber for all of my travel needs while in Toronto. Honestly, it is so ridiculously painless to use the service (book a ride with the app, be able to see where your ride is and how far away, getting in and out without having to fumble around with cards or cash, being able to easy contact your driver) that I would gladly pay extra to ride with Uber. Despite this, it is CONSIDERABLY cheaper to ride with Uber than take a taxi! On top of that there is no awkward request for a trip when the driver did nothing except drive you to your destination (which is their job). What could be better?! These days it's a no brainer to go with Uber...it's better in so many ways. read more

Uber has saved me sooooo many times without denting my wallet it's not even funny. You forgot your wallet, dont have cash on you to take the transit, but you do have a cellphone don't you? Things i absolutely love about uber: Customer Service: Your driver took a longer route than he was supposed to? Drove below speed limit or delibritely slow? Was rude or misbehaved? Open a ticket with their support and they will do the best they can, there is a thing called fare review and they would actually return you money if the driver took a longer route than he was supposed to. Cars and Drivers: The car can't be older than 10 year, most of them are fairly new cars. Apart from only one bad driver that I have had(He was already at 3 stars, pretty sure he was terminated by uber after my ratings), all the rest were really really good. Cars are usually very clean as they go through inspections every two week as I was told by an uber driver. They usually have water bottle for you and some even go as far as to have juices for their passengers. One driver even offered me to use his Aux cable (yay). Conveniece (most important) This is where uber shines the most, just take out your cellphone, turn your gps on, open the app and request an uber. You can see the exact location where your uber is, know the time it will get to you, see the photo of the driver, name of the car and have their number plate in case you need help recognizing the car. Once you're in, put your destination address and THATS IT, nothing more needed from you, payment will go through your credit card. This is unlike cabs, where i had to wait for 10-15 minutes sometime without any ETA on when will they show up. PRICE: MUCH CHEAPER than cabs, I used to pay $20 (with toll distance of 8km) on uber, and with cab the same distance (without toll) would cost at least $27, talk about a fare difference. read more

We weren't sure what to expect from our first Uber ride. My employer registered and told employees to use the service for work functions and I'm glad we did. Car was immaculate and driver was very friendly. He explained the service and I asked a number of questions which he answered very promptly. Paying with the app is so easy. I sometimes forget that you can literally review anything on Yelp! UBER is one of the most amazing transportation services I have ever used and continue to use it whenever I can. I find it interesting from reading all the different reviews, as they range from worst to best, but I find it hard to believe some of the one star reviews, as none of my experiences were like that... Now, in reality, I don't use UBER all that much considering I live in the suburbs and have my own car. However, I like using it whenever I head downtown, as I don't have to drive, find parking, and pay a lot of a cab. I usually take an UBER from the subway station to my location if it isn't directly on the subway line. All the drivers have been super nice and friendly. I haven't had any bad experienced with UBER. Even when some of the drivers weren't the greatest at driving, UBER themselves quickly resolved the issue with excellent customer service. I only gave feedback on one trip when I felt the driver went way slower than was necessary, and they gave me back some money. Now if that's not good customer service, I don't know what is! Most of the drivers also do this as extra cash on the side, so I find they are usually in better moods that cab drivers. With the rating system, you can always drop a trip if you want a better driver too. UBER has an excellent array of services too. I know they do the lunch delivery if you're in the downtown core, and even some special events for occasions. The ride prices may hike up at peak hours, but they always give you a warning beforehand, and give you the option of notifying you when the peak hours die down. FYI: if you aren't in a hurry, just wait!! I love UBER, and always use it whenever I'm in the downtown area to help me get around. Of course, I also use it with a group of friends to increase safety, so maybe keep that in mind when you use the service. read more

Uber is cheating with Uber Partners (Drivers or Customers). Their staff tells you that they are charging 20% from every freight they collect as their commission, will cover commercial insurance needed in case of any accident to Driver/Riders/Pedestrian/Other Drivers, but on the other hand don't give you this in writing (only Verbal). They are asking Drivers to use their own insurance ( which is illegal to use personal insurance for commercial purpose), in which case you may lose your insurance policy with current company and no one will insure you in future. They don't even have any phone number to contact in case of any emergency to Uber Drivers or Passengers. Phone number (647)931-4827 is only answering machine and ask you to send email to support. Drivers be careful as you may lose your insurance and will not easily get insurance from other company or at very high price. If Uber is giving this in writing that your private car is covered under their commercial insurance policy, please get them to issue a copy of that policy in writing to you, as you will be needing the policy number in case of any emergency/accident. I have asked them to give me and they are just giving verbal commitment and nothing in writing. User/Passengers be careful as you or your family may not get any insurance, medical benfit or claim from any of the party in case something wrong happens. Uber if you are reading this, please post your commercial policy over here and give in writing that how are you covering Drivers/Passengers in case of any accident. read more

I am very disappointed that Uber has become much more expensive than cabs. We took a regular cab to the same destination that same night and paid $8.00 (with tip). Thi was not the first time I paid more for an Uber ride. I guess the deals are over, so I will be back to cabs. I love uber, BUT There are NOT MANY Pet friendly Uber drivers. My dog had to go to vet and come back, if I cannot get an uber ride even after paying extra for pet ride as per the app, it is pointless for me to be honestly clicking, pet ride and wait for any drivers who are dog friendly. I had to book Beck Taxi last time, as ZERO UBER drivers, who took pets for ride, kept showing on screen. Till now Uber was my favorite, but with so many non dog Uber drivers, I feel now I need to switch to another service. Any suggestions ? read more

I have been using Uber for approximately 8 years in Toronto and the GTA. I have noticed that over the past few years I will receive an upfront price, confirm, and then receive a higher credit card charge. Not only is this a breach of contract, but also contravenes the consumer protection act and common law principle of misleading and deceptive conduct. In other words, this is stealing. I have experienced this issue on almost every ride. I found myself continuously having to double check my credit card charge to compare. When I request an adjustment from Uber they respond with "your request for an adjustment has been denied due to an increase of adjustment request you have made." However, Uber customer service reps are able to see what your upfront price was because they have had to adjust the fee numerous times for me to reflect the upfront price shown and agreed to. I wish to note that the inflated fees are not due to any wait times, route changes or any of the like. The receipts simply show an increased fee that was not initially shown upon booking. Finally, I must share that I have never experienced this issue with Lyft. The upfront price has always reflected the credit card charge with Lyft. I noticed that a class action law suit was commenced in New York for the same issues. I must not be the only one. For anyone experiencing the same continuous notorious issues please contact me. I believe a similar class action may be commenced against Uber in Toronto/Ontario. read more

My experience with the driver was horrible with their driver and app. It was Sunday Aug 30 1:53pm, i enter the White Hyundai Santa. it was good, the driver states he doesn't speak english very well. That's fine by me, i can enjoy a quite ride no problem. My route was from Leslie/highway 7 to 403/mavis. The driver proceed to the 404, so i asked "does wow must be nice if Uber pays for the 407?" The driver replies with "No, i pay for it. its better for the customer" . Very well then i ain't my problem. the thing is if i was in a hour or have i request to take the 407 than to go around the 401 on a normal, that wasn't the case he was doing at best 110km/hr and after that i got the bill with the surcharge of the video toll and mileage accumulated for the trip. I don't care if i was paying for the toll, but the misrepresentation was utter lack of professionalism by far from a company that is growing. show lack of training or digression for the customer with out options. read more

Although UBER can be very convenient and sometimes cost effective, it's good to compare prices now and then.Uber does not always come out on top. We recently took and Uber to Toronto Pearson Airport, after 9a.m., after rush hour. The Uber, after multiple extra charges, cost $10 MORE than a flat rate per area "limo" ride returning from the airport. There was no traffic slow downs for the Uber ride.The limo was very comfortable, compared to the older and smaller car from the ride service. Buyer beware. read more

In case of an accident, the insurance will deny any and all claims because this car and driver only carry personal car insurance not commercial (no commercial insurance exists for UberX). 2. You are letting the Police know that this is an Uber and the driver could be pulled over and fined $300 - $500 for operating a Taxi without a license. It is your right to sit anywhere you like, but you need to know that you are not in the Taxi or a Limo if you were you'd be paying at least twice UberX fares. This is a "ride sharing" arrangement. Not knowing they are NOT suppose to ask for money I asked how much and gave him more! I filed a complaint with Uber and they could care less. It started out good until something went wrong... isn't that the case with most things? too god to be true. Well, my Uber got hacked. Somehow, some dude was on "Joy rides" at my expense... hundreds of dollars later... Had I not checked my statement it would have kept on going. You would think a company that is worth billions would have shopisticated security Department to see that it's not possible for anybody to travel on a cab from Toronto to Dominican Republic! and notify me in the process. Apparently, this "Joy Rides" are happening frequently and all over the world. Uber customer care or lack thereof have the worst I've ever experience so far. First off, there is no number you can contact. Yep, Yelp you read it. I had to communicate via email on the app itself and get automated emails that are slightly different each time like I was talking to a robot. The issue is so time sensitive that it should have been dealt with immediately. It took almost 24 hours of communicating back and forth on email for Uber to let me know that someone was using my credit card from a different Uber account and by this point it racked up more bills on my card. I had to call visa to have my card cancelled and have them sent me a new one. I would have done it sooner if Uber told me about this issue earlier on. Now I have to call all companies that I have an automated billing within my card. Nightmare!!!! It's been a few hours after finding out about the theft and uber still haven't gotten back to me. I mean, really??? my account got hacked and you do nothing? credit cards are very private information that I assume this type of company have sophisticated systems that protects it from being stolen and if there was a breach they should contact us promptly and in a proper manner. So i didnt even know about this until recently, I went to Chicago and over there Uber is big. Its much cheaper than the "regular" taxi. So when i came back i search uber up and to my surprise it existed here. I tried to get a few fare quotes on routes im familiar with, and to my surprise all of the fares were more expensive than my usual cab fares. It has potential but it still needs work, specially on the pricing. In Chicago, I paid 12 bucks for a 20 dollar fair. whereas here, a 8 dollar fair was 15 with uber. read more

You can see the car approaching on the app 2. because you know who is coming to pick you up, someone else won't take your cab, and you won't accidentally take someone else's cab 3. you can rate your driver and you can see the drivers' ratings 4. no cash needed. charges and tip on your credit card; receipt available immediately 5. drivers can rate customers, so they will be safer and guaranteed payment. It works both ways, as I would think it could be scary picking up strangers at times. 6. if you DO have an issue, you know who the driver is without having to remember, and the driver knows who his/her customer is. I'm writing a review based on a driver's perspective. So far it has been great as a way to supplement your income, however it is not so great if you are considering to drive full time. There are rare price surges and to maintain the 5 star rating you need to get to your riders destination as quickly as possible so you can really take your time getting there or else the rider feels you are taking advantage of the ride. When this happens you get a a low rating. Also be careful when declining a rider during club hours because they still have the power to rate you and if they rate you low because you didn't accept them as a rider it will reflect on your overall rating. So pretty much I avoid those hours when I drive. Too all the new riders that want a safe, different and cheap way to get around the city. Please use coupon/referral code st72f to get $20 free ride. Have used Uber a few times now and at first I was a little bit skeptical due to having to give them my credit card info, however, I think it is the best thing going. The drivers are friendly, the cars are clean and there is very little wait time. The cost is half the price of a regular taxi and the top is already included. I recently moved to Toronto from Calgary where the courts are still behind the times and taxis dominate the city's transportation. As with some other reviewers I was skeptical about the service, but I ended up having a top notch first experience. The driver arrived within 6 minutes and it was fun watching the car drive to my destination from the app. The vehicle was nice, clean, and roomy. The best part was not having to haggle with a transaction at the end of the trip. Worse possible service. Both uber and uber eats. I have been assaulted by several drivers and complained to no avail. Occasionally an apology. My food as arrived inedible and when I complain vs my husband, I receive little apology or solution. Disgusting costumer service. Uber has always been at least upfront with the pricing, that is why I take it over Taxis. However, this morning when I called an Uberpool at the Greyhound terminal downtown, the price was 19.26. When I got home, Uber gave me the receipt of 28.25. When I disputed, the customer agent said it was because my pick up location changed. How was that possible?
