I recently had an Ubereats driver go into my back yard (saw him from the window). There was no reason for him to be there. Someone who I believe to be him, from the video, returned a couple days later in the middle of the night and stole over a thousand dollars worth of my property. Ubereats responded that they couldn't identify who delivered my order that night, after I provided the time, date, address, place I ordered from AND the order #. They told me I would need to provide the "driver's name and license plate number in order to look into this further". An exceptionally poor response considering they would easily know who delivered my order that night. Really creepy that someone was sneaking around my back yard in the middle of the night stealing from me and that was their response, even after I told them I had video. I am a big fan of Uber for my self. Felt safe ordering one for female family until today. I put a female family member in an Uber pool, within minutes I got a completely unrelated scam call, I panicked and hit the 911 "safety feature" which doesn't really do anything aside from your phones ability to slide right to ball 911. This is unacceptable even if a female passenger is in the back of the and by chance needs help the attacker can knock the phone out of her hand before the phone calls 911. what then, or even for my self in a medical emergency with the driver. Unbelievably frustrating customer service. I set up a family account so I can pay for my family member. After following all the steps in the instruction, the credit card did not work. There is no problem with my card. To troubleshoot, I purchased a gift card and sent it to the family member. After she entered the gift card in her account, it was immediately defective. The amount went to $0 from $50 without usage. I contacted Uber support. They sent me a couple of copy and paste type of replies. I replied with a bit late of frustrated tone. In general, I find Uber drivers reasonably polite and good drivers. However, I have a few issues with Uber. 1. The Uber app/algorithm seems to often chooses a pickup point that's hard to find. It's also hard to see street names on the map. Trying to scroll around is VERY difficult, as it often messes up your order or takes you to a different screen. Because of this problem, I've often paid extra due to the driver's extra "waiting" time, even though it was very difficult to get to the pickup point on time. MAKE IT EASIER, UBER. 2. Several of my last few Uber drivers are men who wore Covid masks over mostly stubble or even a full beard. Lyft wait and save (which usually is about 5 minute wait) is cheaper than Uber share. Let that sink in. Regular Uber is significantly higher in general. I was in hurry to get airport Pearson therefore was forced due time shortage to drive own car and park in primary parking nearby departure as I fly with my family (not alone means). The first time I tried to use Uber, it did not work. I was waiting for a cab that never showed. I was livid! So I decided to contact the company and let them know how annoyed I was and how I was going to tell everyone to stay away! Yeah, I was mad. I HATE waiting! Anyway, they got back to me promptly and apologized for my trouble. Then they asked me about the Uber app that I had on my phone and walked me through the process of ordering a cab. It turned out that there was a glitch in my app, and that is why the cab was never ordered for me. Uber took the time to fix the problem and then they added money to my account as an apology. Honestly, the customer service was so attentive, that I did feel a little embarrassed for having been so threatening with them. The day after the app issue had been dealt with, I was so eager to try Uber, that I ordered a cab to take me home from work. And WOW, it was super easy! The cab appeared 2 minutes after ordering it. It was as simple as they say it's supposed to be. You get a quote, then you decide if you want the cab or not, then they tell you how far away it is, then they tell you the name of the cab driver and even show you a picture of the driver that will be picking you up, and then they send you a text letting you know that the driver is approaching. Then you get in the cab, give the driver your destination, and once you reach your destination you do not have to do anything else (your credit card on file is charged). Everything is covered. Within an hour you get a text with your "receipt." Done! Sure, the ride may cost about $1-$2 more than if you had hailed the cab yourself, but the convenience can't be beat! read more

Uber is all over the news. It's about time that I wrote a review for it. OK I have to be honest, I always had my doubts. Getting in the car of a random person does not sound like a good idea. All that changed when a friend of mine sent me an invite for a free Uber ride. It was a late night. All bus routes are closed. I was about to do the unthinkable and call a cab, but my friend sent me an invite for Uber. I downloaded the app and filled up my info. It was quick & easy. The app shows you all the available drivers around. One tap and within 2 minutes a super friendly human being (and I emphasize on human being!) arrived. He picked me up and dropped me off in a clean, fairly new car that did not smell like taxi. We had a great conversation throughout the ride. Total was around $10 which is pretty sweet but since this was my first ride it was FREE! I would also like to add that Uber saves me lots of money when I travel outside Toronto. I don't have to deal with taxi drivers who seem to love taking advantage of tourists. Nor do I have to pay a hefty price for a car rental. I don't have to worry about payment as it all happens online. I don't have to carry cash with me when I'm in the hoods of Chicago or Atlanta. Thank you Uber for making our life so much better. I've used Uber for downtown rides and once to get home from the airport. How awesome did I feel riding in an Escalade? Money. The Town Cars are pretty smooth too. The taxi option is there if the fancy cars aren't necessary. The price includes the tip which makes things much easier. Customer service is exemplary. Despite requesting for the refund of the extra money charged, I have denied the refund stating that there has been a lot of refund requests previously. So disappointed with this company THis morning I had to go to work so I decided to take uber ( since its a week when they offer 50% off) it was kinda cheap so I thought its better to take uber then take the streetcar. For our end of the year celebration with friends, we decided to leave the car at home and Uber it for the first time. The app was easy to download and use and the drivers showed up right on time when they said they would. Both rides to and from home were very pleasant in clean cars with drivers who were polite and willing to engage in small talk. I was a bit concerned about the availability of cars as we live out in the Suburbs and that proved to be a non-issue. When we ordered our car for pick up from our home, the driver arrived in 5 minutes flat. Very impressive. On the way home, it was 6 minutes for the driver to get us from Woodbine & 14th at 3 a.m. Very impressive indeed. We used the UberX which was the most economical option and to get us from the edge of Scarborough/Pickering up to Markham (Woodbine and Steeles) cost us just under $30 for one way. Our first Uber experience was a very good one and we would definitely use Uber again! I hope they stay around for a long time. read more

The customer service is totally useless! they do not care about your concerns. The lost and found process just want to charge you without any attention to your time. I lost my phone and got it back 2 days later without any approximate time about when can I get it back. I canceled my schedule for the weekend and then I was charged 20$ while they could provide another option that was more easier for me and the driver without any payment. I have only used uber a couple of times. The last time i used them was on April 17, 2021. I ordered an Uber and it never came. I waited outside for 30 mins in the dark and then had to walk home in the dark. Not only was I charged once for no service provided but twice. Paypal reversed the two charges as I never received the service. I have not used them since and when i looked at the app those two charges are still there.. So i contacted Uber through the chat. After wasting 15 mins chatting with "Jam", he said he was getting customer service to email me, and he abruptly ended the conversation without even saying goodbye. That aside, I still have not received an email. If this is the customer service that Uber provides, perhaps i will continue taking cabs. I am not sure why i was charged twice for no service.. and it isn't about the money. Uber must be hurting since covid as now they are scamming people. Double charged me and after providing bank statements and receipts their horrible customer service team gives me the run around not reading my full complaint and then telling me I am wrong. I asked for it to be escalated 4 times before I was told "we recommend reaching out to your financial institution to confirm your account details and get help with any unauthorized account activity". In addition to safety issue - and I am being treated badly as a customer.. An Uber driver/car which came to pick me up On Wednesday November 10 2020. was smelling like bad booze breath and perspiration, so bad that I had to get out of the car immediately and cancel the ride. Another refund request was related to taking a route over the Bathurst street Bridge which has been closed and under construction for 6 months which resulted in extra charges for having to turn around and drive back and re-route. I have had an Uber account since Uber first registered to provide their service in the City of Toronto. Now, I am closing my account. Too many times they have DOUBLE charged me on a fare. Just now a driver cancelled and not only was I charged the cancellation fee, but also for the trip too. I got refunded only the cancellation fee after trying out their in app"customer support". Did you know that they had a customer support number for riders? They got rid of it. Because they aren't a "taxi service" in the City of Toronto. Flat out, Uber doesn't care anymore . They have a Customer Support number just for drivers. So that should tell you right there that an Uber customer is no longer the rider, it's the driver. Customer support for riders is only the driver they're stuck with and Uber is glad to scam your money no matter what the situation is. You're better to use Lyft. My friend referred me to open an Uber account, and I received a C$10 promotional discount. I took Uber from Pearson Airport T1 to Dufferin and Steeles area on May 19. The upfront price was C$30.78, the final price was C$37.66, and I took screenshots of both. I wrote to Uber and attached the two screenshot pictures. I was advised that there is a C$2.75 for booking Fee, and C$4.50 for Airport Surcharge, and Uber replied as follow: "The estimated amount of the toll or surcharge is included in your upfront price before taking a trip. On this trip, your actual route included roads with tolls or surcharges that were not accounted for in your predicted route and your upfront price was adjusted". In essence, Uber acknowledged that the upfront price should have included both of theses charges but did not. The final amount charged to my credit card was C$27.66 after applying the C$10 promotional discount. Uber's final reply was there will be NO Adjustment. There was an offer (upfront Price) and there was an acceptance, and it constitutes a Legal Contract, but Uber did not seem to recognise that. So I would say Uber upfront price is not accurate. read more

Don't let the star rating confuse you, I think Uber system is great however with recent experience with Uber Customer service I think I'll use Uber less often and will recommend it less as well. My account was somehow compromised and I got charged for a ride in a middle of the night for an order that I didn't make. As soon as I found in the morning of what happened, I have contacted Uber support and informed them that I didn't make the order and that my account was compromised somehow and my credit card was charged for something that I didn't use nor authorized, in response I been asked to update my password and check that the account details weren't check and to ask around family and friends if they used my account without my knowledge, I'm not sure what policy Uber is operating on but I don't share my accounts details with nor friends or family especially when it got to do with finances. It like giving access to your bank account. I have informed that Uber support that in no right mind I would provide access to anyone to my account or my money and I still believe the account was compromised, the response was shocking: "If you're absolutely sure that this was an unauthorized request, the next step would be to ask your bank to reverse the charge. You'll be refunded directly by your bank. Please note that if a chargeback is initiated, it will create an outstanding balance on your Uber account and you won't be able to ride until the balance is settled. You can learn more about how to settle a charge on help.uber.com. Please let me know if I can help with anything else in the meantime" Basically my account was compromised on Uber and I got charged for an authorized transaction, to which I can call the credit company and do a chargeback but if I want to use Uber again I would need to pay back this amount to Uber before using them again. Basically we are sorry that somehow our system was compromised, but we not going to be responsible nor try to figure what happened and if you want to use us again then just forgot about this incident. I was just shocked of such response, besides the point that there was a loophole in their system, plus the driver never verified who ordered Uber plus he took 407 to rack up extra money to his tap. I've never liked taking a cab in Toronto. They are over priced, dirty and rude would be the best description I could give. Uber has changed the game. It has never been a more pleasant experience to hire a car/ride. Sometimes I will send an Uber to pick up a client and have them brought to me. The client doesn't have to pay, it gets charged directly to my credit card and the cars have always been quick, on time and respectable. The last time I took a cab was just after the last huge fare increase a few years back. In conversation with the taxi driver he stated "we don't care about you" now we make $100 or $200 real quick, half a tank of gas and we go home with a nice profit (real conversation, word for word). Arrogant and rude. I would like to meet that driver again and say "HA! Got cha back"! "We don't care about you either". Why the city is trying to block Uber is beyond me. The people are voting with their dollars, leave this elite yet affordable service alone. We the people like this service. I know for City Counselors like Kristyn Wong-Tam, she relies on votes from the unions to get elected. Gawd knows the people in her riding would never elect her and therefore she will never have the people interest at heart. She only supports the unions for votes. I don't really know why Uber, a hugely-successful $68 billion valuation company, really needs a Yelp review, but I got some time to kill so here's my opinion of it. I was first introduced to Uber two years ago in San Francisco and absolutely fell in love. It is the most convenient service for tourists especially because you don't necessarily know where you are at all times and a cab might be hard to hail down - not to mention you might be in a sketchy neighbourhood. I've had so many bad experienced with cab drivers - from purposely taking longer routes, constantly talking on their Bluetooth headphone, never wanting to accept credit card, adding an illegal surcharge when there's a big crowd - that I just got fed up with them. When I saw the Uber app pop up in Toronto I immediately got on board and told all my friends to get it. Initially Toronto only offered an Uber Taxi service which are basically Taxi drivers who use uber to get customers. It is about 10% more expensive to use than just hailing a cab but the MOST important aspect of Uber for me wasn't the price, it was that I could give feedback. If the cab driver took the long route, I could file a complaint through the app and it would often get responded to in less than 1 hour, with Uber always taking my side. I'll also never get paired with the driver again, so the system will filter out all the bad drivers away from me, and if the driver dips below a certain threshold, he will be banned from the system for being a lousy driver. That kind of monitoring system doesn't happen among cab drivers. I filed a formal complaint against them once in the past and the city official called me to ask me if I wanted to go to court for it. That's a lot of work for me to file a complaint, I just want the taxi driver to not be an asshole, but I have to go through the long and arduous legal system for that? I'll just use Uber. UberX came along which cheapened the prices of car service (only $35 from downtown core to airport by cab!!) but at the same time the system did get filled with terrible drivers trying to make quick bucks. Make sure you give bad ratings to bad drivers - do everyone a favour. Uber drivers should know their major routes. If they don't know Yonge St. or Bay St. that's a bad sign. They need to familiarize themselves with the major roads in Toronto before signing on to becoming a driver in the city. Yes they have a navigation system, but they also should know their basic roads in case the GPS doesn't function properly. File a complaint if the car is dirty, or if the car is old, or if the license plate on the app doesn't match the car - we need to work together as a team to weed out the bad drivers to make sure we are only left with the good ones. Because UberX is fairly new to Toronto (~1-2 years), the system still needs time to filter bad drivers out. Give it some time and then you'll get your good-quality uber drivers that you typically will always get in San Francisco or New York, which have had Uber for a longer period of time. While I've had my fair share of poor UberX drivers, I've had way more bad encounters with cab drivers. I also know that bad drivers will eventually fall out of the Uber system but bad cab drivers will likely continue on with no repercussions. For these reasons, I fully support Uber and hope to continue to see them persevere and overcome their legal battles all over the world. With $68 billion dollars, I'm sure they can do it. read more

I've been using Uber for awhile now, usually with friends, going home after a night on the town or going to an event. But in the last month I think I've used Uber 5 times, which is a significant increase in use for me. I avoid taxis like the plague. In fact I hate taxis. They are overpriced, the drivers are sketchy and rude and I never feel safe in them. When uber came along, all that changed. The prices are so reasonable. The drivers are a bit chatty, especially the new ones, but they are extremely nice. And I have never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. This service is a godsend. I do wish they offered more promos but even without, it's nice to just request a vehicle, hop in when it arrives and hop out at the destination without the miserable struggle of finding cash or pulling out the card the machine accepts (debit/credit) ESPECIALLY when you're in a hurry! read more

This is more a review of cabs, than Uber. It's like when you've been eating Hershey Chocolate all your life, and then you get a chance to try Lindt. It's like, OHHHH wait Hershey chocolate is shit! You sort of realize, but you don't fully realize.... I was a big defender of cabs. I was like, it's so easy to just flag one down! And who wants to be in the back seat of a stranger's car, that's so creeeeepy! But then, you start to think -- instead of improving their services, why are cabbies just trying to get Uber to abide by their rules? They should be thinking, isn't it weird that people are willing to jump into unlicensed, unmarked cars versus taking a cab? Because if cabs stepped up their game - if this made them become friendlier, more efficient, have better route knowledge, have GPSes, clean their backseats - then I'd go back to them in a second. Hell, carry some bottled water or gum or something and I'm sure people would come back to you! But you just whine. You just whine and whine and whine. And I've taken three cabs in the past 3 months since I've started using Uber. And they've all been terrible experiences, where the driver takes a shitty route, is too slow, won't listen to my route suggestions, and does dangerous and stupid driving. Is Uber unsafe? I feel more safe in an Uber ride than in a Taxi. There's a record of me ordering the car, and if someone else orders me a car, they can watch the route I'm on home. Since you get to rate the driver at the end, you do get to actually give feedback about your experience (so far I've never had a bad experience, so I've had nothing to really comment on). When you flag a cab and jump in, there's no record of you ever getting into that car -- the other day I was in a cab, and the cabbie said he wasn't even the driver, he was just taking over for his brother-in-law because he was away. We've all been there - cabbies no longer show their photo ID/license, and you have no idea who it is driving you around. Some additional comments: if your ride is surging, wait a few minutes and try again - don't accept over 1.6 surge charge. The tracking system is basically crap, so don't really go by where it says the car is in relation to you. Would be SO MUCH MORE HELPFUL if it told you the colour of the car -- "honda civic" isn't helpful!! Especially when you don't know cars, it'll say a car to me and I'll have NO idea what I'm looking for -- keep in mind driver's dont have your picture! so they dont know what you look like! read more

(@Uber_TOR) UBER has become an integral part of my life. The convenience of the service and the fact that I never have to stand outside waiting for a taxi is incredible. From my condo, on average, if I order and Uber while in my unit, by the time I get to my lobby the Uber is almost always already there and waiting. What I also love is the variety of services. Most times I simply just use the taxi service, but when I want to make my dollars stretch a little I'll try the UberX option which is pretty much just a regular Joe like you or I, who has been screened by Uber and approved to accept fares. For special occasions, there is nothing better than the feeling of ordering an Uber Black car or Uber SUV. The drivers treat you like a celebrity and many have little extras like candies, and water bottles to make your trip more enjoyable. I think some people contemplate driving after a few drinks when it's late at night because it can be so difficult to catch a cab. With Uber you can order one and relax, you have your cars specific number, you see a picture of your driver and they see a picture of you. When your cab arrives, no one else can take your cab. Lastly with regards to customer service, I have to say that the few times I've had a less than exceptional experience, or felt that the driver didn't take an optimal route, I've sent an email to their customer response team and they've always been quick to respond and make amends for any issues - at the very least they're quick to respond and acknowledge that something is up. read more

As promised, I called a regular cab instead of the black cabs which I had so much trouble with in the past (see previous review). I was pleasantly surprised. The first time I called, it was Mother's Day and I had to leave work around 6 pm. I hailed a cab from my phone from Richmond and Bay and within 2 minutes a cab showed up. The driver knew exactly where he was going and I didn't have to do any work to direct him after telling him my address. Three minutes after arriving at home, my phone buzzed with my receipt. Easy, safe and convenient. Awesome Last Friday I had a bunch of stuff to take to a friend's cottage and didn't want her to have to drive back to the downtown core to pick me up. I hailed a cab on Queen St. in front of the Sheraton and again... 2 minutes later a cab showed up. He knew exactly where to go and was courteous enough to help me with my many heavy bags. IMO, Uber is a great service that I've recommended to others. But I would not take a black cab again and I leave one star off for the lack of safety and downright fear for my life that I experienced earlier. I have been hooked on Uber since finally trying it for the first time almost a half year after the launch. In the last month I have taken 6 rides with only one not making a 5 plus star rating. In contrast I took a cab on Saturday that was too busy working on his iPhones play list with ear phones (possibly illegal?) while driving to pay attention to the road. Chatting with the Uber drivers they were all family men just trying to earn some spare cash. Although none were ecstatic about the rates they all talked positively about their time behind the wheel and experience. As advertised all cabs showed up accurately with their countdown to arrival. Only one was picky about the minimum trip but decided it was forth the $20 dollar ride. Over all they are quite a bit less on the regular fares, around 60% of a full cab ride. (Don't quote me, it could have been other factors effecting the rates from night to night). I have recommended it to friends and even used it when with friends. Personally I am behind anything the decreases the chance someone will get behind the wheel after a couple drinks and the ease of use and cost of the service is a huge benefit. read more
