I've read reviews in other forums that Uber either doesn't operate in Rome or that they are not reliable nor allowed by law.
All I know is last week, out of pure laziness and tired of walking or riding the trains/subway, we ordered Uber 3x, all short trips and got immediate response and picked up in less than 10 minutes. The first request was our first night in Rome and Google Maps took us in all sorts of directions to our destination, to have dinner so when we were done, we requested Uber and a fancy Mercedes and nice older gentleman showed up and we were on our way. The second request was when we arrived back at Roma Termini too late on the train and the Metro rails had just closed. Instead of taking a taxi, we Ubered again and a nice BMW picked us up. The third time was because we didn't want to drag our suitcases from the hotel to the local metro station at Termini, then drag it upstairs to the Trenitalia train, so we just got Uber and another nice older gentlemen in a nice Mercedes picked us up and helped us with our suitcase.
All 3 requests for Uber was prompt and professional. It was reasonably priced and in the US, no BMW nor Mercedes ever picked me up; not like I was willing to pay for that upgrade. But why only 4 stars? None of the cars were marked. The cars do not have the Uber sticker anywhere. It makes me curious as to why and what possibilities may occur for other passengers. But all in all, I assume these are the typical "private coaches" people hire for more money. read more
