I've called UberXLs multiple times now, only to have a mid size SUV show up that can't fit my family of 6 and our luggage. One time an option showed up that said "uberXL with extra space for luggage" and it was perfect - however, haven't been able to find that option since. Feels like I'm playing roulette when I call for the ride - then have to cancel or try to shove our stuff in a tiny trunk when a Toyota Highlander or Kia Telluride rolls up to take 6 passengers from an airport to a hotel. I called an Uber to take me home from the hospital. I had been at the ER with a friend. I specifically said to pull into the ER parking. The app said the driver was there but he was nowhere to be found so I called him and he told me he was where his GPS told him to go. I asked him if he could see a big red sign that says ER and he told me he wasn't familiar with this part of town. Familiar or not you should be able to see a big red sign. Then he told me he was behind the hospital. Not sure why he would be behind it. Then he told me I would need to cancel this and start a new one which I did with Lyft and they got there no problem. I used to use uber on a regular basis, however I do not use them anymore because of a few incidents of people not driving safely. Most of the drivers are foreign and do not drive good. One guy pulled out in an intersection slowly while oncoming traffic was coming from both directions fast. Another was falling asleep at the wheel. Some say they have been driving all day and night. Many don't know how to drive in snow or slick weather which is common here. I havnt felt comfortable to call an uber since the guy started dozing off at the wheel. He didn't speak English well or at all. I just kept making noises to waking him up. read more

I cannot say enough good about Uber. I use it all the time and am so grateful to have an alternative to taxi cabs. 1 If you've ever tried getting a Taxi at 2am, dispatch will talk to you like your a second rate citizen. I almost feel like they shame you for drinking, when really, the fact that you are responsible enough to know you shouldn't drive, is a good thing. Then the response time they give you is 15 minutes to an hour and a half. Inevitably there will always be one drunk idiot who doesn't want to wait an hour and half so he'll decide to drive the group. With Uber I have never waited for than 12 minutes. They usually arrive in 3-8 minutes. 2 On multiple occasions I have had cab drivers talk to me in a way that made me very uncomfortable being in the car with them. And even more uncomfortable when they drop me off at my home by myself and know where I live. When I've called to complain about drivers, I'm pretty sure my complaint gets filed in the trashcan. Wheras Uber uses a rating system so that drivers who get poor ratings are not requested for rides. 3 In a taxi, you can pay with a credit card for an additional fee or you can pay in cash and 90% of the time the driver will tell you he can't make change. So either way, you're paying extra. With Uber, it's not even expected that you tip. The payment processing is automatic. 4 The two times I have had a problem with Uber, I was prepared to make a complaint. Turns out I didn't even need to. I gave the driver a poor rating. Uber asked me why I gave the poor rating. With a simple explanation, they looked into my issue and automatically refunded my money. It took zero effort on my part and the situation was automatically corrected, just as it should be. 5 There is something to be said about the stigma of taking a taxi after a night out on the town. People tend to expect you would only take a taxi if you were blitzed out of your mind. I'm a firm believer that buzzed driving is drunk driving. Which is why I really appreciate the convenience of Uber. Even if I plan to only have a couple drinks the entire evening, I'll still just take an Uber. It's so slick! If you're looking for a ride to the airport for an early morning flight, DON'T use Uber. I had scheduled Uber for 4:30am the following day. I was confirmed and the fare was deleted from my Venmo. The drive was scheduled to pick me up from 4:30-4:40am. At 4:35am I received notice that my ride had been canc and my funds returned. I tried to reschedule to find no drivers available. I'm an "Uber-Newbie" as I only started using it recently. If you're reluctant to try it, don't be! I've used it once now socially and once for business. Both times were a good experience. Being new to this service, I inadvertently put my pickup location as my final destination and had to cancel and request a new vehicle. I didn't realize there was a $5 fee for request errors. Moral of the story: BE CAREFUL when entering your pick up/destination location. I "Ubered" from down in the Old Market to home (entered correctly) and there were no issues grabbing another vehicle. There is a "play Spotify" request on certain vehicles too so you can jam out to your favorite tunes while on your Uber ride. You can also request an "Uber XL" for a larger vehicle that costs a bit more. There were four of us that needed to be picked up so the XL option was a good call. A new Town and Country mini-van rolled up at 13th and Howard and whisked us away in style; first to my wife and I's place and then dropped our friends at their house. That's right- Uber will make a couple of stops to get people home. As for business, it works great. It's about half the cost of taking a cab to and from the airport. I requested a car at 7 am on a weekday and it took about 10 mins for the shiny, red, electric Toyota Prius to pick me up; good response time. The beauty of Uber is when a vehicle is requested, you can see your car en route with the estimated time of arrival. Also, it gives the driver's name, driver's license plate, make and model of the vehicle. This makes it easier to identify; especially in a busy place. Payment is made on a credit card of your choice that you preload in the Uber app. You can have multiple credit cards on one account. Upon your emailed receipt, you can rate your driver. I heard that drivers can also rate passengers so make sure you are on your best behavior! read more

Having more than one option for App based transportation in Omaha is great. We have multiple Taxi companies that front as if they are different. We know that that is a lie. We have one cab company. Now we have more options. With the addition of Uber, backed by the likes of Goldman Sachs and Google, Omaha is getting better every day. Uber has a slick website and is even included in Google Maps for location of drivers. that is a plus. the pricing is similar to the other options that are available in town. I got a decent ride home the other night from Benson and it ended up about the same as the other way we got up there. They quote a price range, tell you that they will send you an actual price before your driver gets there, which of course they do not, and by the time you've arrived at your location, you've paid double what you thought you were going to pay. I use Uber because it was suppose to be less expensive than Taxi/Cabs. I don't carry cash, and I love the ease of having the payments done through my card. AND tips were not necessary. Now I get in, and Joy tells me she depend on the tips. You have a job driving and I'm sure Uber is sending you a pay cheque. When you ask me for a tip, it's a total turn off. I used Uber after checking their web site for cost estimates. Their cost was $17 to $25 for the route we needed. After picking us up the driver kept going the wrong direction and missed the exit to our location. Upon arriving he said the charge is $125. I told him I wouldn't pay that amount and he said I had no choice as they have my bank information and will be charging my account which they did. I recently tried to take an uber who never showed. A bit of a damper on the night out but definitely not the end of the world, I just messaged customer support and my friend ordered another one through her app. I tried to reach out to uber, as I have done with previous fare issues, and explained the issue. I offered that I had screenshots of the driver not picking us up and driving the wrong direction, as well as a call log that shows he was unresponsive. Uber told me that between his account and mine, his won. I don't have a bad uber rating(above 4.75) and I offered proof but was told to shove it. Initially they did not ask for my proof or further details, just said they think I would lie "based on my account history." Eventually my fare was refunded after screenshots and some upset messages were sent but they never apologized for the poor ride experience or for a rather long message they sent me telling me I'm a liar that customer support felt was appropriate. I'm upset with the disgusting customer support as my only disputes I've had on my account were for drivers who overcharged me, which the app could clearly prove. I took screenshots to back up my case when I realized he was being odd, but apparently I should take them more often as this company has atrocious customer support and some very shady drivers. If this is an acceptable business model, I should start trying the other ride options. Apparently Uber's name means they can attempt to screw customers out of money. read more
