I reserved Uber the night before for a 5:55 am ride to the airport. That morning I got a message that Chris would be there soon. When it was 6 am and no sign of Chris we took our own car. On the way to the airport I received a message apologizing for not showing up. This is unacceptable. Why tell me someone is coming? What happened? Why not tell me they're not coming? I used a uber while I was on a medical emergency in Des Moines Iowa, it was so horrible, I was taking my son from the hospital that nearly died home, so I ordered a uber to go to the airport to pick up the rental car to go home. I ordered a larger than normal car because we had a lot of stuff, the driver arrived in a different car it wasn't the color I expected he had a car seat in the back seat and bags in the trunk I was squished against the door, we had to wait in the cold while he moved things around so we could get in the car, with my son in a wheel chair waiting to get in the car, the car was so packed my handbag was turned upside down, my I. D. Fell on the floor causing over a hour of waiting while it was found because he had left before I realized it was missing, I have uninstalled the app I will NEVER use this company or refer them!!! I've had a couple good drivers. Why I am giving a bad review is I understand Des Moines and that it's not as abundant in cars as larger cities but I waited over an hour for a ride. NOT because that was all that was available but because I had two rides cancel on me. One I understood to an extent as they were still ten (original wait time was 20 minutes) but showed them ten away and switched me to another ride (assuming the first cancelled, idk and IDC) but then the second the Uber GPS literally showed them as I was watching they were 4 minutes and then a minute away (per interchange they had to get off of and not being too crazy out of the way) they cancelled. Leaving me to get another Uber ride that was again 17 minutes away. Now on the third driver. I've waited an hour and 15 including the third driver who was on their way and actually picked me up. Now I understand letting Uber drivers cancel but there should be a penalty like a customer gets where after you accept a ride and they don't show they get charged and not all but a credit should be applied to the customer. I mean if I was wanting to get to work, then I would have been late. It shouldn't matter if I want to get home or get to something pertinent. And driver's should be charged with a credit to the person being picked up just like if I were to cancel a ride. Why don't Uber people requesting a ride de get a credit of some sort for having to deal with drivers cancelling like drivers get credit for customers cancelling. Why do I have to wait an hour for a ride that says it will be here in ten minutes. They cancel then the next one u wist five minutes and they cancel. Uber is a joke. They can change their rates whenever they deem necessary. The drivers are not bonded by the city and are not legally permitted to pick up in the City of Des Moines. The vehicles that Uber utilize are private personal vehicles and do not get inspected. read more

Never have had any issues in any city other than higher wait times during peak events or dates. Only ever had one questionable driver who was nice but thought he was in NASCAR during a rainstorm. To avoid any hassle I prescheduled my Uber in West Des Moines the night before. Simple trip @ $15 to the airport 10:00 am. I received a text cancelling 2 minutes before my scheduled pick up. I received a second text a minute later stating that there were no other Ubers available in my area. I then received a third text 3 minutes later stating that now I could rebook for $35... SCAM!!! It does absolutely no good to complain to Uber, because there is no phone # to call, no manager to be reached!. Uber drivers have the discretion to cancel your single rider reservation for a better offer, for a more lucrative fare, and they will in Des Moines so BEWARE!!! read more

I scheduled a ride over an hour ahead of time with Uber for Thanksgiving Day to take us downtown for dinner reservations. 5 minutes before the end of the pickup window, the driver cancelled my ride with no explanation. I ordered another ride still hoping to make our dinner reservations. After 10 minutes of waiting for the 2nd driver, the app dropped the ride and began searching for a 3rd driver for my ride. At this point, I cancelled the ride with Uber and we wound up having to drive ourselves, which we didn't want to do and is why we scheduled with Uber in the 1st place, and we barely made our reservations!! I highly doubt that I'll ever call Uber again - how can I trust them to even show up!!! read more

These guys are great! Waited 4 minutes verses 1+ hours for them to pick me up. Payment was far easier than a cabby, all digital and seamless. The city needs to get onboard and embrace progress. Fast, clean, friendly. No money exchanged. Uber is the future. I won't take cabs because they suck so bad. But, I will Uber anywhere. Get credits for referring friends. Beware! I had two different drivers show up at my house within 5 minutes of my request. Problem is I texted the designated driver, Brian, that I wouldn't be leaving for 4 hours and I just wanted to make sure someone was available. The first driver I assumed was "Brian", showed up, I explained the schedule and he left with a promise to be back. Then "Brian" showed up within another 5 minutes. WHO THE HELL was this other guy?? No identification, maybe not even an Uber driver, but someone who hacked their site? (Yeah I know, far fetched, but how do I know?) I told "Brian" no thanks, I'll call a cab. He left and they charged me a cancellation fee for cancelling within 5 minutes of my appointment! My appointment was not for another 4 hours! Their incompetence cost me 5 bucks. Yes, I sent a complaint to PayPal, and they might refund, but this whole system is junk. Deleting the app. Won't use again. read more

If I could give my experience less than 1 star I would. My driver had 1 job. To pick me up from my house and take me to the mall to start my shift. He decided to start a conversation to past the time. Once we got on the top of school these were his exact words, " Why is it that the hispanic and Black community always miss out on there education. I mean what is it with you guys?!" He put me under a statistic and continued going on as if it was okay. Here's some insight for you and anyone reading this, if you right now can't afford school and are working to build up your income, that's Okay. If you think a semester off will help you to get that income in and start saving, that's Okay too! I work 2 jobs, pay my own bills & at the same time trying to find/finance a car. Yes it felt like a slap in the face of him basically saying "I'm not doing enough" but in reality I have no financial support so I'm doing everything I can for myself at 19. Also if you're Hispanic like me or African American reading this thinking how dumb this guy was, don't ever, EVER let someone's ignorance like that guys make you feel less than or not good enough. That kind of behavior is not acceptable and you should never tolerate that. I hope this helps you decide not to ride with uber and to take a regular taxi. I will never use Uber again because of not the drivers, but on how they will take my money out of the blue. It would charge me $26-28 dollars twice in one day after paying for the ride I actually took and not understand why it charged me for that amount.
