It seems to me the "Old Guard" cab riders are posting bad reviews for Uber. I use then in Chicago and Houston all the time. If I could take them from the airport home i would but the old boys have stopped that. I took Uber to the airport in Chicago last Monday and paid $27. When I came home I had to take a dinosaur cab and it was $65 plus I had to give tip so ended up being $75. Is a tai really worth $50 more? If you one star people think so keep taking them. Took uber taxi from midway to Palos the fare was 31 with a $3 up charge. Ok that's fine I tipped the driver and went on with my night, only to find our he charged my account 60?? I was fine with the $3 up charge but to double my fare seems a bit ridiculous. I could have just hailed a cab and saved money. Not happy with this experience at all. First off, I think uberx is great when it's not surging and ride sharing is a great idea and I believe uber made the possible. My problem is with uber taxi. Yesterday I took it to work and my cab driver also started his meter. It was $5.05. Later I check my bill from uber and I'm surprised to see it was $10.25. Even with a 20% tip which I had it set at it should only be $6. So I tried to contact uber. They make it impossible to contact them. I selected I had a problem with my fair and all there i found was some faqs. No number or email address. And I don't want to Leave feedback for my driver since it's not his fault it's the companies. When you do the math of über' fancy calculation of the drivers cut of the fare...you will not make any money. Plus, absolutely no tips. Uber discourages tipping. I still cannot figure out how they calculate the drivers cut of the fare. The driver agreement reads that they deduct $1.25 from the gross fare then you will get a 75% cut of the difference. Example: I drove someone 27 miles and i had to pay a toll of $1.50. The gross fare was $31.70. My cut was $$18.50. That is not 75%. Plus the total trip at rush hour took 45 minutes to get there and then I had to drive back in rush hour traffic which took another hour. I drove a total of 60 miles, it took almost 2 hours and I made $18.50. That is just one example. When you calculate the gas, time, and the wear and tear of your car you are in the hole. Do not waste your time. You could work at McDonalds and make more money with better benefits. read more

I found out the hard way that this business is not licensed by the City of Chicago. Ride at your own risk. The taxi sent to pick me up had suburban company logos even though I live South of Irving and East of Western. The driver left with my laptop still in the back seat. Uber has not been of any help. When I called the city to complain I was told it was my fault for using an unlicensed cab and that there was nothing they could do. Thanks Uber. read more

Ordered an Uber at Univ. of Chicago Medical Center on 5/12/17 around 1:30 PM. Indication was a 4 minute wait. No problem so far. After a couple of minutes that Uber map showed the driver making a wrong turn and going farther and farther away from me. I called the driver and he indicated he did not know where my location was. I told him 58th and Cottage Grove. He said he does not know where Cottage Grove is. Soon thereafter I canceled. Uber charged me a $5 cancelation fee. After I wrote an objection, the charge was not waived. Incredible! read more

Someone set up an Uber account using my credit card. I saw at least four charges a week ago and called my bank. Chase refunded me and sent me a new card. However, I emailed Uber immediately and notified them to cancel the Uber account and I never got a response. I also, found out they do not have a phone number! We finally decided to break out of the ice ages and try Uber (we'd had such positive feedback from others who thought it was awesome). We had tickets to a concert at Wrigley Field and opted to stay in a hotel downtown Chicago. Rather than attempting to try to park nearby or take a taxi, we decided it was time to break out of our comfort zones and finally try Uber - our virgin experience. We set up an account and ordered a car (a bit intimidating for us because they requested more information than we were comfortable with, but we went ahead with it anyway). We anxiously waited outside of our pickup point and followed "our car" online that appeared to make a few wrong turns on the way but finally was coming right at us - except she flew right by us. We could see her at the light a block away but couldn't tell if she was going around the block again - or what? We debated, should we try to chase her down or would she be gone before we got to her??? Eventually, she did email us saying she was outside waiting for us? So, we ran to her to make sure she didn't take off and, fortunately, got in the car and we were on our way. When we explained to her that our pick-up point was a block back, she rudely claimed it wasn't her fault - dispatch sent her to the wrong place! From there on in, it was an "icy" trip. Traffic got backed up as we neared Wrigley, and she was complaining so much, we decided to get the "H" out of the car and walk the rest of the way. To add the proverbial insult to injury, we learned we were charged a "waiting fee" because the driver went to the wrong location and we had to chase after her to get to the car! Seriously? Welcome to Uber!!!! At that point, we were pretty much committed to having to use Uber for our return to the hotel (or try to find a taxi). We ended up walking a few miles until we were finally in a situation that we could order another car that could even get to us. Fortunately, it didn't take that long for a driver to show up to return us to our hotel. This driver was far more amiable, showed up exactly where we were waiting, but, it cost us almost twice as much for the return trip. I would LOVE to share this information with Uber but, I can't find a phone number, contact info or any other method to let them know about our experiences. Just one more reason I doubt we'll ever use them again. They don't even give a crap about feedback, customer service or whatever. I can't even find a place to dispute a "waiting charge" for the driver going to the wrong pickup location. It wasn't a huge amount but, it's just such an insult that they have the audacity to charge us to "wait" for a driver who went to the wrong location, and now we can't even try to report the driver or dispute the charges. The epitome of a lack of customer care or appreciation. We'll appreciate them just as much in the future. I've been told Lyft is better so, if we find ourselves in such a situation again, we'll absolutely try them before we'll try Uber again. read more

Uber sends out a special offer for Riot fest. If you sign up now, they will give you 30 dollars towards a ride to riot fest. Great offer I think so I sign up. I go to use it and suddenly demand is so high my rate will be 2.75 times normal. My brother standing next to me, who uses Uber all the time, goes into his app and at the same location, doesn't get any up charge. What crap. We took a cab instead and the bus home. Uber makes it so hard to report a unsafe driver. They don't have a direct line you can call and complain. You have to jump through hoops just to report a driver that is ridiculous obviously they don't care about their customers or the safety of others. I will be using Lyft for now on until Uber fixes the situation because quite frankly this is ridiculous. I take my first Uber today from inn of chicago to midway airport. I feel the ride is over priced.

This past weekend snowed non-stop and by Sunday night, we were sinking to sub-zero temperatures. I used UberX twice on Friday night, three times on Sunday afternoon and night and used Uber Taxi to get to work on Monday morning (ordered 8:40 and was at work by 9:05). Some of my Saturday fares were during surge times but most were not because I waited a few minutes until price went down or as was the case on Monday morning, I switched to taxi option, waited 8 mnutes for a taxi to become available and ordered it. Monday fare from Bucktown to NBC Tower on Columbus and Illinois was $12.00. For every Uber ride that I took, my maximum wait time was 12 minutes (even during blizzard conditions) and minimum wait time was 5 minutes. On too many occasions, I have had to wait over an hour on rainy nights for a cab in Bucktown that I have called. Uber lets you know exactly what the price will be during surge times and you can choose to take it or wait until the price goes down or use the taxi. I had once cancellation this weekend, but was able to book another UberX quicky so delay was still better than trying to hail a cab in a blizzard in my Bucktown neighborhood or call one and wait for over an hour. While the cancellation was an inconvenience, I can't tell you how many times I have called a cab only to have them take someone else off the street. Another plus with the UberX experience is that the cars are clean and don't smell 99% of the time. Every Uber driver I have had has been very pleasant, either driven the route that I asked or driven the quickest, most direct route. I cannot say that about the taxis that I have taken, which usually try to talk you into going the way they want (the long way), stop at first sign of a yellow light, drive intentionally slow- all to jack up their fare. As for quality of Customer Service, I was completely unable to get an UberX on a Saturday a few months back, which was a drag but I did not complain; however I did receive a free ride because they noticed I made numerous failed attempts to get one and gave be a $25.00 credit towards my next Uber ride. read more

I've been a long-time Uber user. I became suspicious of them when they started tracking my movements even when the app wasn't running. Now, in Chicago, they offer the worst service of any city. This morning the driver couldn't find my hotel using the address or cross streets. He wasn't the closest Uber and he took the call even though he was miles away. He then roamed the city never coming close to my location. I called the driver and asked him to cancel the call since he couldn't find me. He did, then Uber charged me $5.00 for the ride when the driver never even showed up. Uber stood behind their decision to charge me the cancellation fee. I deleted the app. I deleted my account. I installed Lyft and will either use that or cabs. Uber has become too big for their britches and think they can get away with anything without losing customers. Wrong! read more

For what you pay taking pool rides or X in the denser parts of Chicago, Uber is insanely great, and I am baffled by the overall bitchiness of reviews for it here. I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, and during the last 2 weeks I've had to cross town a dozen times to make assorted appointments, and I still can't believe that service as quietly efficient as it is even possible at its price. Fuck the bus, damn all trains, and let the existing medicaid transportation setup be abolished in favor of reimbursements for using Uber. The real shame is that nothing like it would work in the suburbs, where density of demand is too low to make it sustainable. Much as I loved having my own car, and hate living where there's often no good or affordable place to put one, Uber has already saved my ass from transportation failure. read more

Uber charged me $65 from Downtown Chicago to Ohare T1 with 7 minutes wait for the drive to come in 5:30am. I used dozens time of Taxi and Uber in the past 2 years with the same route, but I never paid this premium even with 1:30 hour traffics plus 20% tip to Taxi driver. The highest price I paid was $52. I am very disappointed that Uber takes advantage on the pricing surcharge to their customer and I have learned never take 1.7X up with Uber if you can grab a Taxi!! read more

I have used uber x a few times in Chicago and these uber drivers are clearly not from Chicago. They don't know where they are going and they rely heavily on GPS which is not always accurate. The drivers always go the opposite way of where I need to be. My advice to Uber is have your inexperienced drivers ask the customer "Is there a particular route you want me to take"? Its that simple to avoid the frustration of the customer. They are also dangerous drivers. Since they are not familiar with the streets of Chicago they blow off stop lights, make their own turn lanes, make illegal U turns, and they think they can stop in the middle of a one lane street to pick up a passenger while holding up traffic. As a passenger I would rather spend the extra money and take a cab and as a driver I have to be extra careful of these inexperienced drivers. Always good service, cars are clean and neat, some offer water and snacks, on time, navigation system worked fine and for 30% cheaper than traditional cabs I would be willing to put up with less than perfect service, but I have not experienced that. read more

i used uber last night after meeting max crowley at the opening of 1871. i downloaded the app on my iphone, entered all of my billing info on to my account, and requested a car when i was ready to leave. what a brilliant service! the town car was downstairs waiting for me when i walked out. the car was super clean and the driver was really friendly. the price is obviously more than a regular cab would cost but the service is primo and your overall experience is so much more pleasant. this app is going to really come in handy going to bulls, hawks, and bears games, when its impossible to otherwise get a cab. you really feel like youre getting limo service for a small upcharge over a regular cab price. im really excited to share this service with my friends. the concept is amazing and the ease of use is ridiculous. just tap your iphone read more

I took an UberX cab ride this weekend from the Chicago Olgivie train station to Oak Park and I was charged $103. I had asked my driver for the estimate of the ride when he dropped my sister in law and I off and he told me that he couldn't load my fair. I had no idea what I was charged or even if I was charged either because I never received a confirmation email. The driver also told us that we could tip him and I told him it was included in our Uber cost he said that it was not included. It appears that he must have given himself an $88 tip (after checking on Uber fair estimate). I don't plan on using Uber anymore and I would advise others to not use it either. read more

Uber is now taking taxi fares. They drive yellow cabs and charge the same as a taxis. They are taking money from hard working drivers who wait in line patiently for their next fare. A friend of mine introduced me to the Uber platform. Last summer I ran low on cash and started to drive. It was a good experience for me. I made a little money to take my munchkins out on the town and met interesting people along the way. I rode as a customer for the first time for my families Spring Break trip to Florida. From our home in Chicago to MDW we ordered an Uber XL the driver was awesome and helpful. When we arrived in Orlando we ordered an Uber XL with Car Seat because we had to get on a highway at night to Port Canaveral. That driver was extra nice. He was patient and kind to our kids who were cranky, he had a lighted sign in his windshield with my name on it which was awesome for identifying him, and he had bottle water. However, when we arrived home the driver called and asked me questions about where I was going and it sounded as if he didn't want to pick us up because we were not going downtown. Then when we got to the house he asked for a tip, RUDE. Especially when he did not earn one! Nevertheless, prior to there being Uber or the competition I remember having to be at the mercy of rude, and ignorant taxi drivers who refused to come to my neighborhood even though it is quintessential middle class Chicago (teachers, police, city workers, ect). SoI really like to concept, it is easy to use as a rider or driver. read more

I was in the burbs from out of town; I used Uber to take me from one meeting to another. Instead of taking the direct route (12.5 miles according to googlemaps' directions), I got the 25 mile scenic tour for almost a hundred bucks. I probably won't be using them again. read more

I started using uber several months ago and initially loved it. But recently they implemented surge pricing which is completely ridiculous. They say it is to manage demand for rides but I think it is just a ploy to take advantage of people! Last week I used uber and the app was not working for taxis. Since I could not get a taxi at a normal rate I had to use the uber x at surge pricing. When I complained to uber that their app was not working for taxis they basically said it was my fault and would not compensate me at all. I have been a very god customer for them, but no more! My friend placed an order through uber for a car to come pick us up. when the driver shows up and we get inside the car we noticed that the driver was acting crazy. he drove like a maniac, like some one who was on drugs. my guess is that the driver was on cocaine or some thing. later we checked uber's web site and found out that uber doesn't do drug testing on it's drivers. that is very dangerous when your are transporting human lives. read more

Pathetic, Uber over charged me for a ride, and tried to convince me that it was my fault. Being new to the service, I must say the customer service is horrible. I along with others, decided to switch to Lyft. We have been happy every since. A colleague also had her credit card charged twice, when she didn't order service.
