I needed a ride to the airport at 4 am, so I used the Uber schedule a ride option. No ride came. I can't request another ride until I cancel the old request. Finally I request a new ride. Later I'm told, if your ride doesn't show up in 10 minutes you need to request a new one, which happens frequently. Why do they bother to have an option that doesn't work, leaving people scrambling. Seems irresponsible. Better off using a limo service that you can count on. read more

Came home from walking the dogs tonight to find a guy peeing on the parkway next to my neighbor's car in from of our building. As it turns out it was an Uber driver with a ride in the back seat. His car was parked behind my neighbor's car blocking the alley. I am not a fan of public urination. As I recall, gas stations, bars, restaurants, hotels, large stores etc. all have public restrooms. Ok, very mixed on this app. When it works, its great! But time and time again, i'll have a cab that was ordered and on its way, just to have them cancel the ride when they pick someone else along the way. They have been doing quite a bit of updates, and it keeps getting better, but my biggest complaint goes unanswered. When a cabbie cancels on you (especially after waiting 7 minutes and then seeing them pick up someone right by you!) there is no way to rank them poorly or let UBER know of your bad experience. Don't use UBER in Chicago at Midway Airport! It is a complete scam there. My driver told less than $70 with tip when I got home. Somehow I get charged $95 from UBER - UBER is a Scam - their drivers don't know what is going on and they LIE about charges. The driver told me the charge on the screen is what I agree to pay and there were NO other charges. Don't believe them, nothing adds up - I gave him a $10 tip and he somehow was able to change it to $15. The driver said the $20 promo code would be deducted from my fees. Uber can be a mixed bag sometimes. If the weather is bad and it's rush hour then you can forget about it. You'll be getting busy messages left and right. However on average when things are normal I rarely wait longer than 4-5 minutes. Easy, convenient. You're in and out of the cab with none of the fuss. I will say that Uber X in particular has left me wanting on a few occasions. I shouldn't have to tell a cab driver who also happens to be using navigation that they missed their turn and then watch them miss it again. I've also done the SUV. I first discovered Uber last year in SF for a wedding. When I asked my brother-in-law how much a shuttle service was from SFO to the Mission District, he mocked me jokingly and told me to download the Uber app. Being the most over-planned and prepared person I know, I didn't trust this new technology - I wanted a reservation, a confirmation email and a phone number to call, especially since I was traveling with 2 children. So we landed and I popped open the app. Lo and behold, there was an amazing, critical mass of black icons all over the Bay Area. So I chose one and before I knew it my phone was ringing. The driver was there, friendly and told me where to meet him when I picked up the luggage. As a seasoned traveler and father, I have to admit I was skeptical. But I was won over by this connection the driver made with me. When we flew back to Chicago the next week, I decided to take the "big risk" and cancel my confirmed town car and try out Uber in Chicago. Well, I wasn't disappointed nor have I been in the last year. I've used Uber to drive my kids to school when my radiator blew at 6am in the morning, they even picked me up this last Sunday following the Chicago Marathon to deliver me and my sore legs home (who wants to take an El and Bus after running 26.2 miles?). I highly recommend the Uber car service for their accessibility, the excellent customer service, very clean autos and easy-to-navigate app. My only critique - as they add more subscribers and users in Chicago, will they one day reach that tipping point where there aren't enough cars/taxis/SUV's for us all? Drivers were not at fault; they were only following the uber-illogical directions provided to them by what appeared to be a beta version of not-so-uber maps on their smart phones. uber is pretty awesome but i've noticed that drivers don't always seem to know the best/quickest route and locations of well known bars and restaurants. i know it's not a taxi but i was surpised a few times where they didn't know to use lower wacker -vs- michigan ave to get to dusable harbor, elston to zip through traffic, how to get to places that i thought were well known, etc. i think some of the drivers were new to the city - they have all been super nice and professional - but i've learned that it's best to have an ideal route in mind to avoid unnecessarily sitting in traffic or heading to the wrong spot. the app is super convenient and the cars are very comfortable, if you use this for short trips it's not really that much more $ than a cab - and it's a 1000x times better! read more

Driver was familiar with the airport, and dropped us off in a good location. Much better experience than I have had with regular cab service in Chicago. Will use uber again. read more

Über literally saved my ass last time I used them. My car blew a heater hose on the way to a job. Uber got me to and back from an auto parts store in time for me to get the parts, change the hose, top off the antifreeze and be on my merry way. Made the gig in Indiana on time! Horrible company to deal with as a driver. My boyfriend referred my brother to Uber and they both got screwed over with the money uber was supposed to pay my brother as an incentive being a new driver and my boyfriend for referring him. My bf just got into an accident while driving for uber. It was the other driver's fault but in the meantime because of a loophole they were able to get out of paying a $6000 fix on his car and suspended him because the car is not up to par. Not reliable! Had us walk to a pick up location and wait in the rain said we would need to wait 10min at 11 min after you could tell the driver wasn't getting closer to either of his pick ups the driver canceled. It then charged us more to find a new driver who canceled and than another and then another. Finally Jeffery picked us up after we stood in the rain for 30 min. He was great and we were lucky to have him. But there is a serious problem when you almost miss your flight because of a lack of service from a company that's sole existence is to provide that service. read more

Horrible customer service!!!!!! Just got a text from UberEats, a service that I have not signed up for, saying that my food delivery from Pastoral in the French Market was on its way. I texted back saying that I didn't order the food. The system said that it can't receive texts. The delivery guy called me and was at my work (so not only did they know my number but also my work address) with food in hand. I told him that I didn't order any food. I called the Uber 800 number. I got Joy who couldn't understand me and couldn't speak English well at all. After giving her the numbers that texted me three times, I asked her if I could speak to a manager. She put me on hold for 15 minutes and came back with no they are not available and in a meeting. I insisted and she said to go to the uber site under help. Take photos of the texts and upload them. I asked if she might have an email address I could simply send the shots to, but no I have to go to the site. Well, there is no way that I could see to upload the texts. With Uber being aligned with Trump, I was going to switch to Lift out of principal, but I was moving during those few weeks and couldn't be bothered. I should tell you that after this, I'm switching. I've had some good experiences on Uber but my last experience makes me want to take a regular cab. It was raining and the driver is claiming an $80 fee to clean her car. She took a picture of a damp seat and Uber considers a photo evidence enough to warrant the driver's fee request that's normally reserved for vomit or large food/beverage fees. They charged me $80 when it was only a $5 fare. I quickly learned that Uber has no customer service phone number. They only have an e-mail contact, where it is obvious that the staff are trained to say no refund. The staff only provide a first name, like a call center, and when requested there was no supervisor. Interesting! The e-mail replies to the rider's concern with canned responses and avoids answering direct questions, if they respond at all. Very unprofessional. Fares are much more straight forward in a cab. Uber seems to take advantage of it's riders and frivolously charges any amount for a "cleaning fee". read more

I've used Uber twice. Concept is good. Execution is somewhat good. Their shadiness is horrible. You push a button. A car shows. You agree to where you are going. In our case Chicago to Naperville. You are charged a fee and you are done. Keep in mind this fee was not cheap. 200ish for minivan for five of us to get back. Fine. Then sweet Amanda from Uber emails three days later and tells you they upped the charge from 200 to 330 because of some "surge" charge and something about having four and not five passengers. Once the ride and transaction are done, they should be done. There are going to be a ton of disputes between Uber and credit card companies. read more

Today UBER had the bright idea of launching UberEATS was my 1st time using UberEATS. This was by far the WORST experience I've ever had with a restaurant and delivery service. I had 2 canceled lunch orders. Overall I've wait 3 hours for a meal that never arrived. I was promised $20 of food credits toward my next purchase in which I was NEVER credited. I'd say Uber isn't perfect, but for the most part I've liked it. Mind you I've only used UberX so far, and have no idea what the other services are like(pool, Black, SUV, etc). Had to remind one driver going on South Chicago where to turn to get to the 93rd Street South Chicago Metra stop, though in fairness I got the sense he'd mostly driven in Northwest Indiana and not so much southeast Chicago streets when I was coming back from Pierogifest. I still remember the horror it was a few years ago when I was trying to hail ANY Northwest Indiana cab right after Pierogifest, then after calling a couple of companies that I googled before going. After too much waiting that year I said screw it, and walked over to Horseshoe Casino to take their shuttle back to the north side of Chicago. I was even prepared to pay the $20 for a lost ticket for that shuttle, but thankfully the casino employee at their concierge desk was really nice and gave me a free ticket. So glad that Uber doesn't have a ridiculous crossing the Illinois/Indiana state line surcharge, that I recall being hit with(and having a taxi fare over $20) a few years ago after leaving Pierogifest. All the drivers I've gotten on UberX have been friendly, so no complaints on that front. Plus it was the perfect solution to be able to go to Underground Retrocade later than normal one night(and before the last eastbound Milwaukee District West train left Elgin to Chicago), after all the Pace buses stopped operating for the day(7-8pmish) in Elgin and communities north of there like West Dundee. Finally, Uber should allow the option to tip your driver in their app, like Lyft allows. I feel it's important to tip your drivers something a few bucks extra, even if other passengers sadly don't. We recently traveled to Chicago by Amtrak and was able to get an Uber driver within 5 minutes at every pick up. We loved it!! The cars were clean and the drivers were all polite and helpful. I never felt unsafe. Traffic is crazy in Chicago and the idea of driving our own car would be insane. The driver follows the Uber directions to your destination and their phones were always available for you to view. No handheld phones. This is an amazing service. Just used for the first time last night. The car came quickly, was clean and spacious, and the driver was friendly and helpful. However, the "hailing" model works on the idea that you order a car right when you need it - not in advance. I had intended to get a taxi, not a town car, but of course when it was time to summon a ride, no taxis were available. Since the Uber arrival window is so short, there wasn't really time to call a traditional cab company, so I wound up eating the extra fee for the town car. I don't think I could rely on this service regularly if I didn't want to pay twice as much for town car service. It would be great if advanced reservation could be integrated, or a way to find out that you need to call a regular cab company, rather than committing to a "hail" just before you need the car, only to find that regular taxis are not available. read more

You can never get a hold of an agent. The app is set up to run you in circles. I have a lost phone and know where it is at but need an agent to assist on me getting my phone back. The worst service. I have given it several tries and it ends up horribly. Usually the drivers have no idea where they're going. Other perks have been a driver who had a car so full of junk we could barely fit in it, a huge cut on my hand from a jagged door, a driver refusing service to another group of people in our group and saying he doesn't transport faggots and being detained in a vehicle against my will for several blocks when I demanded to be let out. Uber doesn't do a good job screening their drivers, even though Lyft has big dumb pink mustaches at least their drivers are competent, engaging and don't falsely imprison you. A good hint to tell if a company provides bad service: a bad company is one that has no customer service number for an emergency or other issue. read more

I challenge you to call any limo company in Chicago and see if you can get a black car for $15! And make sure you tell them you want it in less than 5 minutes!! Oh... ive been using uber for almost 2 months now and ill say i can never go back to cabs. all the drivers have been nice, the cars clean, and the app works ok on my phone (galaxy s4). i mean its occasionally buggy but what app isnt? i have also had a couple times where a car enroute cancels but ordering another was a cinch. all the people giving bad reviews about surge pricing are just morons. It gives a popup telling you the higher rate and even makes you TYPE IN THE MULTIPLIER BEFORE YOU ORDER. if you were drunk and not only accepted a popup, typed in the multiplier AND STILL ordered a HUGELY overpriced ride.....well thats your fault i say. The price surge is to get more drivers on the road when the demand is higher. There have been times when there was a surge in the area and i waited 20 minutes and the price was back down to regular rates. What I wrote to uber customer service: I wish you had a customer service number so I could explain the situation better. I'm very disappointed with your business. The majority of my rides with your drivers end with me being in utter frustration. Your drivers don't know where they're going ever. They follow the gps instead of using their reason or even knowledge of the city. It is NOT the passengers responsibility to know the best route. That is not why we are paying you to drive us some where. The last time I took uber your driver followed her gps and took us the wrong way. I wrote a complaint that was shrugged off. No reimbursement or acknowledgement that your service has failed. To remind you- your service is poor. I might as well take cabs again. All of your drivers are rude, inexperienced and confused. I want you to know your competition lyft is superb. I take lyft exclusively now because their drivers know where they are driving and the offer much better customer service. In this particular situation, your driver asked me which way to go when we had arrived to a fork in the road off the highway. I was looking down at my phone and when I looked up I wasn't sure where to go. I said "follow the gps I don't know" of course the gps took us to the exact opposite route missing my destination. There wasn't anywhere to turn around so I asked your driver if he could turn off the payment. He was annoyed by this but I explained that we should have already arrived at the destination. He obliged which helped with my frustration. On the way back (now through traffic) he said, "you told me to take the gps that's why we went the wrong way". I said "it is not my responsibility to know the most effective and efficient way to get some where. That's your job." And I stand by that. I shouldn't have to feel guilty because I didn't know the street to turn on. I entered my destination before your driver picked me up. He had plenty of time to review the map and the directions before the ride started. On our way back he asked me again for the address. When I told him he repeated it back incorrectly and was typing it into the gps. Again, this is an example of how your drivers are completely and totally dependent on gps. Your drivers should know how to get everywhere in the city they drive. It should be part of their training and vetting. I won't blame my driver though. It's not his fault he wasn't trained well so please don't reprimand him. He did apologize and say "sorry for the inconvenience" after the ride. However because of your consistently poor service and lack of improvement, I will not be using your service ever again. I would rather take a cab or even better a lyft or the train. You have lost my business- I am deleting the app and discouraging every one I know from using your service. You have too much going on with legislation and with problems in the media for your service to be this terrible. You should be exceeding expectations at this point.
