It is hard for me to do this review knowing things about the company that I did not experience for myself. Specifically, the "premium" and/or "surge pricing" charges that occur during peak hours that are similar to Lyft's "Prime Time." However, I will not hold it against Uber for this specific review since 1) I did not encounter it during my time in Chicago; and 2) it would be unfair to rate a company based on other people's opinions/reviews/experiences. That being said, this is my experience of Uber: I have used car sharing companies like Uber in my own city, where the service is what reflects on the company's website (professional and enjoyable). In Chicago, I may had participated in 1 solid Uber ride that matched the service of San Diego (where I live). The others would range from poor to mediocre. I am not sure if it is just the Chicago attitude, reflection/lack of training, or just a bad streak of drivers but in any case, it's substandard and is not what I expect from Uber. The rates I had with Uber were far better than Lyft. I saved half the amount using Uber compared to Lyft while in Chicago and at the times where Lyft was in "Prime Time," where a whopping 75% mandatory additional tip was added on, Uber did not have anything going on at the same time. The biggest problem I had with Uber was attempting to request a ride around 11:00 p.m. in an unfamiliar area. My GPS showed that the driver accepted and was less than 10 minutes away. However, he did not move for 6 minutes and in frustration, I turned off my phone since I could not find where to cancel the request. I was charged for that ride but after sending a request for refund, I was credited and for that. So in that regard, I must say Uber's customer relations department did a pretty good job cleaning up that mess, though it doesn't excuse the driver's behavior. Overall, I have to say my experience with Chicago's Uber was ok. The fact alone that during Lyft's "Prime Time," I was able to request Uber for less than half the cost is enough for me to give it the a-ok. Plus, it's cheaper than a taxi, by far! However, the drivers and overall experience needs a major upgrade, or at least a huge boost in professionalism. I understand those who are new to the program need to learn but at the least, the drivers should be fairly knowledgeable of the Chicago area, which I found that most of my drivers were not. I have to say that if you find yourself needing a ride and would like to save money from using a taxi, then use Uber. read more

Ofcourse I would be having trouble with UBER. I was charged $185.00 today for a ride I took 2 weeks ago in which they had already charged my account $14.00 because it was my first time using UBER! I am beyond pissed that they would double charge me but even more that this ride is not in my history on my app and that they charged $185.00. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS CHARGE FOR??? This review is specifically for Uber Taxi This service is THE WORST. Do NOT use it. It is not Über - it is an ugly overpriced unsafe ripoff. I have used real Uber (black cars) for several years on occasion and have been very happy with the service. But it is always much more expensive than a regular cab so more of a luxury or last resort when regular cabs are way backed up. So last night I get into O'Hare and thought I would give Uber Taxi a try to see if was better service at a price comparable to 303 Taxi or American Taxi (both of which suck in my opinion). I hail my Uber Taxi and get a call from a woman who barely speaks English and she is screaming unintelligible gibberish at me. I keep trying to tell her where I am standing and she keeps interrupting and barking back at me. I finally think I hear "taxi line" so I haul my butt down the terminal and finally see a dingy Prius with a driver waiving her arms. I get in and immediately a cop comes over and asks to see her dispatch form. She mumbles about "I gave it to the guy" over and over. The cop doesn't buy it and immediately knows she has cut in line and is there illegally. They spend 5 minutes arguing (MY time!) and he finally tells her that he is referring her to the Taxi Board. My guess is Moronfayo (yes, her real name) will be suspended or paying a hefty fine soon for breaking the rules. Off we go and Moronfayo has no idea where Wilmette is and no Interest in using her iPhone as a GPS. Why not? She needed her phone to have a loud conversation in gibberish the entire drive. Since she kept the windows rolled down instead of using A/C, she had to gibber-shout extra loud. I had to repeat lay interrupt her to let her know where she was going. We finally arrived, and my fare? Not quite close to the $35 303 Taxi charges. In fact, it was $71, more than double, which included a 50% surcharge PLUS a 20% tip. Never mind that customary taxi tip is 10%. This was an unbelievable ripoff for terrible service. I could have taken an Uber black car for the same price and gotten air conditioned comfort, not Moronfayo's Hot Prius of Gibberish. DON'T take Uber Taxi - EVER. If you have two functioning legs, walk before you use this borderline dangerous ripoff. Uber needs to shut down this Uber Taxi greed venture immediately or risk bringing down their brand for their core black car business. Don't get greedy, Uber - stick to your original business and leave the death cabs to the traditional taxi companies. read more

This company does price SURGES.. Price surges for no reason, I don't care what demand there is price GOUGING is still price gouging. Why use this system when I can get a regular cab for less than half the cost. Enough said, first and last time for Uber and it seems I'm not the only one. read more

The worst experience every constantly charging my card/bank one amount and giving me receipts for another.. as well as having no response from the in app support. I honestly feel like I'm going to start using lyft or a different ride share service because this is become to much I'm now going to have to go to my bank and take a bunch of time out of my day to fix a corporations mistake... if I could give zero stars I would. read more

This review is for uber eats only! We use uber eats every Tuesday in the office on Wacker Drive. Usually it works great arrives in 10 minutes, amazing. The last two times we've been unable to place our order, the team loves uber eats and look forward to it every week. I'm sad. I was hesitant to use Uber but heard high praise from many friends. I got my first ride free, every car that's picked us up has been super nice and immaculately kept. I like that with the app you can see where the car is and how long before they get to you. The rides have been at least 40% cheaper than when we've called a cab. #win read more

I requested a ride at 6:24 AM it said the driver was 11 minutes out. At about 6:40 it was 22 minutes out and then shortly there after that I got notice that the driver cancelled. This resulted in my having to scramble to get alternative transportation to a meeting I had at 7:00 AM. I view this as completely unacceptable and something I will not be able to rely on in the future. I find it interesting that if I cancel a trip after I make a request I get charged...what is my recourse? Canned response from UBER customer service was very lame.....letting me know that I would not be charged due to the driver cancelling on me.....gee thanks. I had a bad experience this morning. And the price for my ride was astronomical Driver was sneezing and blowing her nose constantly. Loud music not to my taste was played without checking with me. A 2nd rider was picked up and was taken to his destination first, though I was picked picked up first. It took 20 minutes of my time, and we went right by my block after picking him up and driving him around. Bad, and customer service was no better/did not seem to care about making sure the customer was happy with the transaction. read more

Tried using the service for our office while going from place to place it was between uber and a Limo. When we tried to get a car it said there were none in the area and to try again later. We were requesting it 1hour in advance and tried to request it several more times finally they said there were none available. We ended up on the train. Once we were going to the next plance we were able to get a car. They only had the "premium" car available and would have to pay more. The same happened on the way back. The cost ended up being more than the Limo for the night and with one less destination!!!! No thanks! The app is now deleted! read more

I used uber when I was visiting in SF and was excited when it came to Chicago - it 's been a complete disappointment. 1. The last few times that we tried to use it, a cab accepted our fair, but then cancelled shortly thereafter. Cabs need to be disincentivized from doing that. 2. Other times cabs have estimated that they will arrive in x minutes. We leave the house at that time to find the cab has cancelled because it was waiting too long -usually less than 3 minutes. I won't use it again until I hear that it is more reliable. read more

I requested a driver at 11:57a and confirmed thru the app. Per the app, I had a driver and should pick me up within 4 minutes. He never showed up. I contacted the driver in the app and he said that it was a mistake from the app because he already had a customer... BAD BUSINESS... I missed my appointment... read more

On Sunday night, even with rain coming down all over the city, my parents and I got an Uber black car really quickly to take us from Wicker Park to Roscoe Village at around 7PM. Mohammed was our driver and he was awesome. He told jokes the whole way, made us all laugh, and when we arrived at my apartment we didn't want to get out of the car! The mobile app was really helpful for us to call a car super quick. I love using Uber and I can't wait until I need to get somewhere in style again! read more

Used Über a few times, had good experiences. Tried UberEats, it was a disaster. Tried five different times to place order, two different log ins, two different restaurants. Nothing worked. Website kept giving error messages. Tried different credit cards as well. Eventually it said my account was disabled. Very bad experience, wouldn't try it ever again. read more

In addition she was honking her horn, flipping us the bird and tailgating us and other vehicles northbound on Main street and continuing on Schmale rd. Used Uber a few times and really liked it at first, until I checked my receipts and started noticing a new surcharge that I had never paid before and was never notified of being implemented. It was a small charge, but its the principal of the matter. I respect their right to make some profit on top of what goes to the cab driver, but not that they were not upfront about it. I was also hoping that they would have a way to order a suburban taxi at the airport so that I wouldn't have to pay the 1.5x's cab fare of city taxi's, but they do not. I ordered an Uber taxi, and I ended up having to pay the extra fare anyway. Now that I'm hearing about their "surge pricing" business model, I'm very glad I deleted the app, and have no intention of ever using them again. I took an Uber home from work on Friday, and was the victim of some crazy scam where the driver says you caused damage to the car, even if you didn't. I got a text Saturday morning from Uber with a photo of a headrest ripped out of the seat, the driver claimed I caused the damage. Needless to say, I sure didn't. So, I went back and forth with some random person on the help section of their app, because there is no way to get in touch with a human being on a phone. None. I was accused, and told basically to go F*&! myself. They take their drivers safety seriously blah blah blah.....I did some research online, and it seems that if the driver has damage to their car, they might be entitled to a $250 "inconvenience" fee from Uber. So there ya go. I asked for the date and time of the ride, and I was told that they can't give out that info because of confidentiality. So they basically accuse you but won't give you any facts to back it up. I was also told that this report will remain on my account for future reference and that actions that threaten the safety of drivers will be investigated and if confirmed, lead to my account being deleted.....I have never been treated so rudely by a company. With Uber, the customer is NOT always right. My friends and I have ALL switched to Lyft. Be careful....I've also heard stories of drivers making a mess to get the cleaning fee...it really takes all kinds. read more

Uber... you are the absolute WORST! I waited alone.. at night.. in the middle of the city for 20mins. Even though my car was only 3 mins away. Then having called the driver 4 times without one pickup I had no choice but to cancel ride. Immediately I was emailed with a charge of a $5 cancellation fee. I don't see the choice I had.. even so, I was never actually charged the $5... I was charged the entire $24.44 for the ride i never had the chance to take! I used the Uber Car Service twice on the evening of Saturday April 21st, and was extremely pleased and impressed. I attended a black tie gala at an upscale venue, and wanted to arrive and depart in style. Additionally, I was wearing a designer gown and did not want to risk it getting dirty in a cab. 1 - Halal picked me up in a Cadillac Escalade. It was clean and he was courteous. 2 - When I was ready to depart, I used the app to request a driver. Jose called and stated that he was 20 minutes away. I politely said no thank you and used the app to request another driver. 3 - Michael quickly called and said that he was only 3 minutes away. He arrived in about 2 minutes in a sleek Mercedes S Class. I was saying goodbye to a "new" friend that also attended the gala. He was so impressed with the car that he asked for a ride. Michael gladly assured that making two stops was not a problem. Even with two stops the fare was only $32. I cannot wait to use Uber again! I received receipts quickly and they were both accurate. read more

My bad rating is based solely on their customer service. I lost my phone in a cab last night, and there is no number to contact customer service. They only have an email address to contact. In the time it took for someone to respond to me, my phone was long gone. Had they had a phone number and dispatch unit, my phone most likely would've been recovered. Needless to say, I'm disappointed and beyond frustrated that I now need to buy a new phone. read more

I used Uber for the first time the other day, had a horrible experience, they had no cabs avail so they sent me a car, which was the next thing in line to get, I asked the driver for the price he gave me the run around, then said appx $75-85.00 for a 25 min ride, I told him to drop me off down the street. He drove about 2 miles and the bill was $35.00. Customer service has not called me back. My driver was Gabriel, if you get him, just cancel your ride and use Hailo or another service. First experience ... and last. The good: The driver was super nice, aside from some awkward stories, drove safely and was quick to pick up. Very clean car. The bad: Uber doesn't answer phone, doesn't respond to emails and I was charged way too much. But didn't find that out until I had already gotten out of the car. Uber employees are busy posting to twitter but not responding to the voicemail left or emails sent. So leads me to believe that this is just a scam service. Also their website doesn't work on the cities pages to get a fair quote. ALSO you can't delete your card on Uber.com!!!! So now I have to just cancel the card and get a new one. Do yourself a favor. Use a cab! You know what you will be charged before you use your card. If there is an issue you can deal with it right there AND they don't keep your card number on file! read more

Visited Chicago for the first time (besides business trips) a few weekends ago to visit a friend. My boyfriend and I went out drinking with everyone on Friday night. We were staying at his house, but it was his girlfriend's birthday the night before and wanted to go home with her, so he gave us the address, a coupon for a free Uber ride, and said he would meet us at the house at 8:00 am after he gave her a ride to work. Very drunk at 2:30 a.m., Uber car is waiting outside for us, and proceeds to take us "home." The driver drops us off and we get out, assuming we are at the right house, and realize we have no effing clue where we are, and the driver is gone. Very drunk, in a dangerous city we have never walked through, cant reach our friend. Let's just say - drunken tears, fear, anger, and regret happened in the next half hour. We managed to get another Uber, who took us to the right house... 40 blocks away! read more

I was charges 2 different prices for the same route. Plus they charged a $50 fee called a surge fee. It incourage to get drinks ers working. Why do I pay a company to encourage their workers. The app didn't show a cancel option when the uber was taking too long to get to my house...so when I didn't ride with my car I was charged five dollars! This is such a scam I know other people with the same problem but this hasn't happened with Lyft. I explained my situation but the money wasn't returned to my credit card. I took UBER x to Pilsen from Paramount Room (another 5 star on yelp). The driver was polite and friendly. The car was clean (2011 Altima) - and the driver listened to my directions. He arrived at the restaurant in 4 minutes after I paged and I made it home in 16 minutes. Cheaper than a cab by about 4-5 dollars. Overall a good experience. read more

I had high hopes of Uber. We tried Uber for the first time in Chicago last weekend. All three times the service was a regular taxi with its meter on. All three times the charge that came to me after the taxi left was 50-75% higher than what the meter indicated. Shame on me for letting this happen three times. I did like using the app to find and see the drivers in the area and also not having to use cash but the over charges will cause me to pass on them in the future. read more

Staying in Old Town, asked for an uber to go to the Damen stop on the Blue line in order to go to O'Hare. Instead the driver took us to the Illinois Medical stop on Damen Street, costing us $15 instead of the $5.00 it should have cost us and a much longer ride through the city. Driver error? If I could give my experience less than 1 star I would. My driver had 1 job. To pick me up from my house and take me to the mall to start my shift. He decided to start a conversation to past the time. Once we got on the top of school these were his exact words, " Why is it that the hispanic and Black community always miss out on there education. I mean what is it with you guys?!" He put me under a statistic and continued going on as if it was okay. Here's some insight for you and anyone reading this, if you right now can't afford school and are working to build up your income, that's Okay. If you think a semester off will help you to get that income in and start saving, that's Okay too! I work 2 jobs, pay my own bills & at the same time trying to find/finance a car. Yes it felt like a slap in the face of him basically saying "I'm not doing enough" but in reality I have no financial support so I'm doing everything I can for myself at 19. Also if you're Hispanic like me or African American reading this thinking how dumb this guy was, don't ever, EVER let someone's ignorance like that guys make you feel less than or not good enough. That kind of behavior is not acceptable and you should never tolerate that. I hope this helps you decide not to ride with uber and to take a regular taxi.
