Most @Uber drivers are very good. My complaint is when contacting Uber if they made a mistake they give you a generic answer. They make too much money and don't really care about the customers. They overcharged me and I emailed them about and they gave me this gas faced (dismissive) statement. Where I live it's hard to use satellite navigation because of building interference. The driver circled my house and I had to call him, but he wouldn't answer his phone. One driver couldn't find the address of where I was going and he just let me out saying it's somewhere in there. Uber sucks!!! I was in Florida August 13 on vacation. Requested a car and Uber confirmed a bigger car than I needed. I instantly cancelled the ride. I then requested a smaller vehicle for less money. Uber charged my card for the Sedan that I never took, and the compact car that I did. I sent all documentation of the first original transaction to Uber. It's August 29 and I STILL have not been refunded. So now I'm out 102.00. Trying to get my money back had been a complete nightmare. I'm going to use Lyft from now on. Uber- Uber is the most opportunistic non-customer service oriented company in the world. They simply work with the law of large numbers and could care less if you have a problem or an issue. Often their prices greatly exceed taxi rides. Their drivers get lost quite often as they suffer from hyper extreme turnover. Uber participates in price-gouging and calls it something else to dismiss it as excusable ("surging," I believe). Just because more people need or want a ride at any particular time it doesn't REQUIRE the price to go up. The two events are not locked into some physically necessary relationship where one MUST go up if the other does. Here is my recent example: On any normal day, it would cost me around $8 to go the full two and a half miles from my home to my place of work. This morning, it cost me $25 to go only halfway. Since I work at a low paying job, I therefore ended up having to spend 2 hours working just to make the amount Uber charged me to get there. There is no call for making the price that absurdly high when you understand they are already profitting just fine by charging the $8 in the first place. It's simply a matter of indulging the amoral and predatory behavior of taking advantage in vulnerble situatiion and calling it excusable. I may end up having to use uber's services again in some desperate situation, but I will do everything in my poiwer to avoid doing so and will discourage others from doing so as well. I just finished 4 great days in chicago. The low points of this weekend all revolved around crooked cheating uber drivers and i now beleive that they are all out to cheat us regular hard working travelers. The problem is intolerabe, when the driver accepts a fare and then drives around in circles waiting for prices to surge and then cancells leaving the rider in the lurch. This happened 4 times where a 15 dollar ride surged to 50 and i decided to take a regular hard working taxi for half of that. If I could give ZERO stars I would. Ten months ago I switched the LYFT and never once had a problem. I switched because Uber can't get their act together. I've had cars drive by me and charge me. It seems every time I use Uber I have to contact the company with a problem. This week I gave it another chance, I had a driver come to get me at my house. He drove slow, saw me, waved at me, and then cancelled and Uber charged me. I complained and Uber's response was to take the money they charged me and put it toward a future ride. Wait! They just did me wrong and that is the best you are going to do? I had to get another ride now and waste my time. Had to contact them and that is all they will do? Moral of the story... Terrible customer service. Earlier this week I was at a large industry event (CIMA) and ordered a black SUV to take me and several coworkers on to our next destination. It was midnight and there were about 700 - 1000 drunk people trying to leave at the same time. My driver never called me or attempted to find us. I called and no answer. I figured she saw the cluster and maybe left? Then I get a text saying I'm on the ride! I was most certainly not. Shortly after that I get a receipt emailed to me for $50. Clearly someone hopped in my car, and the driver did not identify the person as me and just took them. At first I was like whatever, uber has always been pretty good so I will just contact them in the morning and get this resolved. Well 4 emails and 4 tweets later, no one has responded. Furthermore, I keep getting texts that my uber is coming when I have not ordered one! I even got one saying they were headed to pick me up in Indiana. I've never even been to Indiana. MY CASE IS SET FOR TRIAL MAY 13, 2015 in Chicago. I am uncertain if there are any convictions on record for the many other offenses on file but I hope this story will help reach the general public and spare them the same mistake I made. On the evening of February 1, 2015 at approximately 6:30 PM I was picked up by Saeed. I booked the ride using the Uber app. The conditions were blizzard with very low visibility. Within 1 block into the ride I spoke to the driver about the route I preferred and we both agreed it was the most efficient. As we approached my street I commented to the driver he is passing up my street and I could tell he was not positioned to make the left turn. In a split second the driver became completely irate and totally lost his temper and began to berate me and calling me obscenities. He did manage the turn but pulled over immediately and continued to berate me and then got out of the vehicle and opened my door. He stood between me and the open door with a clinched, waving fist and repeated "I'll show you! Who do you think you are?!" This went on for a while. The grocery store on the same block captured the vehicle pulling over and then making a U turn away from the final destination. In my mind this constitutes as kidnapping. The driver drove for another block and pulled over again, got out of the driver side to open my door and in the same manner as before made the same threats. The snow is knee deep and nowhere to run for help and I didn't have a pepper spray or anything to use on him in case he ran after me. So I just froze and my mind was spinning on how to get to safety. Then he began to drive aimlessly to an unknown destination. I was afraid for my life but I thought if I tried to call 911 it would be too difficult to find my location since the vehicle was moving and I did not know where I was exactly. All the while he was still threatening me, and mocking me when I said he is making a huge mistake if he has a prior record. The ride went on for approximately 1/2 hr (I later learned he turned off the meter the first time he pulled over). By chance a snow truck was coming head on clearing the road but on the wrong side of the street. It was coming directly at us. When the driver noticed it was headed straight on he began to slow down and swerve away to allow the truck to pass by. In that split second, without realizing it, I opened my passenger door and jumped out of the moving vehicle. He rolled down his window and began to shout at me but I just ran home in the blizzard. I called the police and filed a report immediately. I also sent a complaint to Uber through the company website. The next day a City Manager named Corey called and sent an email to apologize for the incident and asked me to call him back. He acknowledged the driver admitted to the incident and the details are well documented on the police report, video, the detective's report and court documents. I used to love Uber, and I still use it from time to time in situations where I am desperate for a taxi and have had no luck hailing one...but for safety reasons, I need to share my negative star experience. My boyfriend and I were on our way from Ravenswood to River North to meet friends for an early dinner before the Blackhawks game. I had a giant purse, and I did not realize as I was getting out, my phone and Hawks tickets fell out onto the back seat. ***NOTE: The whole ride, the driver was sweet, gave us his words of life wisdom, even told us as he dropped us off, to always appreciate our health, loved ones and prosperity...well, it was a giant crock of you know what...*** Within MINUTES of getting out of the cab, I realized I didn't have my items, so my boyfriend called my phone, and the driver answered and said he was only a block away, so he would be right back. As a courtesy, my bf was going to give him ten dollars (on top of the uber fare + 20% tip)...well, the driver comes back, and when he is offered the courtesy extra ten, he responds.."I could sell this stuff for hundreds of dollars, so it is at least $100 bucks"..Um what? My bf had no option, so he ended up giving him more money to get my own belongings back.... To me, not only was the driver a scam artist, but between the threats and tone, it was also a safety issue. I complained to Uber, and when they did not follow up, I publicly tweeted them...so they sent me a credit. I have been using Uber for a long time, and at first it was fine. Fast and friendly service. I started using UberX, and then things got worse. On several different occasions, I have had multiple cars confirm the ride, and then cancel. One time, two friends and I were standing outside our apartment waiting for our confirmed UberX. Two cabs pulled up at the same time (we only ordered one), so my friend went into the street to ask the drivers if they were there to pick up us or someone else. We wanted to make sure we took the car we had booked and not someone else's. The driver flicked her off, said she was wasting his time, and drove off. Frustrating and embarrassing. That was the bad. Now for the ugly, and the reason I will no longer use Uber no matter how desperate I am. I take a cab once or twice a week from my work to home, so I know exactly how much it should cost - $21. Every single time it costs $21. My roommate and I needed a cab to go out on NYE, and we were going to a bar half a block from my work. I know it's the busiest cab night of the year, so we expected rates to be a little higher and for the cab to take longer. I was not ready for the receipt I got 3 hours after leaving our UberX car: $206!!!!!!! I know it's a busy night, and Uber needs to entice more drivers on the road. I get it. I have been UBER driver for about 10 months and I was very pleased until 10 days ago when they decided to lower the prices by 15% increase commission to 20% and charge us for the stupid phone, that half of the time restarts on its own. Here is the e-mail that they sent to us: COMMISSION & PRICING UPDATES Summer always ends too quickly - this year that is especially true as Uber Chicago saw demand soar higher than ever! The last few weekends were the biggest we've seen in the history of uberX, loyal riders are happier than ever with fast and reliable service, new riders are coming on by the thousands each week, and most importantly, the partners who make all of this possible are earning more than ever before! CHANGES TO YOUR PAY STATEMENT Back in January we announced that we were lowering our uberX commission from 20% to 5% to help maintain partner earnings through what is normally the slowest time of year. The move worked - uberX usage in Chicago grew rapidly, and even after we moved our commission back to 15% in mid-April, uberX partners continued to make more than ever before. As the summer comes to a close and we enter the busiest time of the year, it's time to move back to the original 20% commission level. Additionally, we will no longer be waiving the $10/week device subscription fee that we have covered since uberX launched back in May 2013. Both the commission change and the device subscription fee take effect this Friday, August 15. LOWER PRICES = INCREASED DEMAND To continue to grow uberX at an incredible rate, we're also permanently decreasing uberX prices by roughly 15%. We drive for many reasons and needs but now the burden is too much on the drivers with average incomes less than $10.00 per hour after expenses and the real cost of driving for UBER. All of the risk is on the driver with little compensation and Zero benefits. This is totally Un-American and shear GREED! While out talking to the drivers today a driver mentioned that UBER had 8000 drivers in Illinois at their disposal. I'm not quite sure if that number is correct but knowing how the economy in Illinois is and the unemployment/under-employment these numbers are feasible. There are Approximately 13 Million residents in Illinois, 9.5 million of those resident live in the Chicago metropolitan area (Including suburbs). Just for the heck of it I would like to look at how these potential 8000 drivers impact UBER's bottom line. This scenario is just an exercise obviously there is more to it than just these numbers. So Hypothetically speaking: If each driver paid a monthly fee of $43.33 per month for the device subscription fee and the drivers only drove 5 days per week, driving 2 rides per hour and only 2 hours per day. Device Subscription Fee: UBER Commissions: $43.00 per month X 8000= $346,640 per mo. $346,640 X 12 months = $4,159,680 per year 2 hours a day X 5 days per week, 2 rides per hr $10 per ride - 20% commission= $2.00 X 4 rides = $8.00 daily. $8.00 X 8000 = $64,000 per day X 5 days = $320,000 per week $320,000 per week X 52 Weeks = $16,640,000 per year WOW that's a lot of commission. ? Wonder why Chicago wants a piece of the pie? This was only a scenario with very conservative numbers. Ok the average ride currently is probably more like $7 and you have to do about 3 per hour but the numbers still make sense. When you try to reach out to them, they just send you back a generic email, stating that the demand will get higher and that we should not be surprised to get more earnings. How the hell we'll get more earnings, when right now we do maximum rides per hour. I can't do more than what I do right now. So they will keep hiring new drivers on top of the 8000 they have, and some of them barely speak any English and do not know the city at all. So they will be happy with the money they make, because they just came from a place where they did not earn anything. Uber will be extremely happy because the demand will go up and with all these charges they will make tons of money. The rest of us that feed a family with this and have been loyal to Uber through the whole SaveUberX campaign, have to learn how to live with $800-$1000 less a month. Have used Uber many times previously. Usually it's expensive, but you understand why - you're paying a premium for convenience. But Saturday night, we had an experience which has resulted in both my fiancee and I canceling our accounts. 7 mile trip home from a wedding, we were told it was going to be a surcharge of 2.5 times normal rate, for a fare of $56 and that the taxi would be there in 11 minutes. Now $56 is incredibly expensive for a 7 mile trip, but as we needed to get back, we accepted it. 10 minutes later, we were waiting outside and found the driver in the parking lot. Checked the expected price with the driver when getting in, and again on the way back. Got to our destination quickly, but were shocked when my fiancee got the receipt through a few minutes later on her phone. $145. $145! For those of you keeping score, that's over $20 per mile. It included, amongst other things, a $35 "waiting charge". We've checked the time at which the journey started against the time of the phone call - 10 minutes. When contacting Uber, we were offered a $20 refund. When we explained the situation in detail we were offered an additional $10 in Uber credits. This still doesn't go any way at all to explaining the extra $100 which was charged for no reason, so we've canceled our accounts. Worst customer service of any company I've ever met (and I fly regularly with United) and a complete and utter lack of understanding for their customers. But hey, they've scammed their $100 profit out of us now, so I'm sure they don't care. read more

Awful experience. Awful service. Awful driver. I have one word that best describes Uber and its service: AWFUL!!!!! This service is definitely a "crap" shoot as another Yelper already stated here. Here is some advice for the Uber drivers -- invest in a GPS -- that way you can find where the "F" I live! We ordered a car, for the first time, and not only was he having a difficult time finding our house, but when he finally arrived he drove right past our house, without realizing we were standing right outside in front of his face and under his nose. WTF! Is this guy blind?!?! Next time, we will order a limo service because it is not worth the headaches of using Uber. Period. Although the driver called my cell phone several times, and I was telling him, step by step how to get to our house he still couldn't manage to reach our place on time. This was not only frustrating, but it caused us to be late for an important event. We also allotted ample time for Uber to arrive at our house and figured we would also factor in "extra" time for heavier traffic patterns, possible accidents and/or construction on the streets/expressway. We live two blocks away from the Kennedy Expressway and the CTA Blue Line. We are two blocks from major cross streets in the city. Apparently, this driver didn't even know how to get to the expressway. We had to direct him (turn right, turn left, now get to your right because the entrance to the Kennedy is going to be on your right side....." Listening is a skill that not many people have. Apparently, our driver did not know the definition of "listen" or how to "follow directions." What a jerk -- he missed the entrance and almost had a freakin' accident trying to cut over at the last second. At this point, my heart was in my throat. I thought "Are we going to die with this guy driving us to our destination?" I was a nervous wreck the entire time. It was not a relaxing ride. By the time we arrived at our final destination I needed several drinks to calm my nerves (and I am not talking about bottled water or a cup of coffee). Needless to say, it was our first experience with Uber, and our last. No mas!!! Buyer, beware. If you have any complaints you are screwed, because there is no phone number for "customer service." It is non-existent. A company that handles "customer" complaints by way of Yelp, and answering the customer, at Yelp, has to be the WORST "F-en" customer service ever. Tacky, tacky, tacky. I will not recommend Uber to my worst enemy. I will not recommend Uber to my best friend. I will not recommend them to my neighbors. Awful service. Terrible customer service. We had a crazy-ass driver who had no sense of direction. It was obvious to us that this guy did NOT know the city streets. My brother-in-law, who is legally blind, has a better sense of direction than our driver had. The fact that Uber does not perform a mandatory drug test is also frightening. It wouldn't surprise me if our driver was on "something" because he sure didn't know where the "F" he was going. If Uber is too cheap to demand this from its employees -- have the employee pay for 50% of the drug test. Period. My advice to Uber: (1) HIRE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE CITY like the palm of their hands. (2) Demand that all drivers MUST OWN A GPS. (3) Perform a mandatory Drug Test on all your employees. Uber charged my son $490.23 for a ride that usually costs $54 at 2:30 AM on New Years morning. That is over eight times the normal rate! He did not know the fare until he arrived home. Uber is a good idea, but it is a mess if you happen to need a cab when it rains or snows. Then their surge pricing kicks in and the cost is astronomical. This is Chicago, so figuring out a time to get a cab without one of those things jacking up the price of the ride is insane. I feel like Uber is supposed to make getting a taxi easier, but instead it makes it easier to get a taxi in the rain or snow if you want to pay a TON of money to do so. I've used Uber in downtown Chicago and in the Suburbs. All seems well. They are only good for ride sharing. Be forewarned - do not lose anything, or ask Uber (help number) to look and see if they have found your item. They do inform you that if your item is returned there is a $15.00 fee - which is passed along to the driver. I do understand this type of arrangement - it discourages people from losing things. However, IF you lose something be prepared to be ignored and treated rudely. To this day Uber has not acknowledged to me (neither has the driver) anything regarding my lost item. People with manners - will get back to you - whether they found the item OR NOT - so everyone can get on with their lives. Really uncouth. read more

Ok.. LOL.. So, I ordered Uberx to come pick me up. I did not realize that anyone can become a driver if they want to for UBER. The only problem I have is that the driver does not know where he is going unless I put the GPS in my phone to tell him step by step where he needs to go. First time I actually paid for UBER, so I was not exactly sure how the payment went. I asked the guy, he told me it gets charged on my card, but the tip is not included. A star is for the delivery people. Uber Eats is a freaking rip off. The drivers are good and I don't mind tipping but the hell with those service fees on top of delivery fees. If you're foolish enough to use them, expect fees between 12-20% depending on the total order. That doesn't include a tip for the driver. Best option is to order from a restaurant that already offers delivery, pick up or cook at home. Uber eats, doordash, grubhub and postmates all need to be driven out of business. read more

I agree with the complaints. Uber started out with a lot of promise, but lately, with the surge pricing (a New Year's Eve cab ride for $102 that should have cost $15) and the frequent cancelling of your order---when a cabbie is en route----it is not worth it anymore. The idea of Uber is good, but until they are able to hold their drivers accountable when they commit to a pickup, it isn't going to work. I've had 5 of my last drivers cancel while en route to pick me up. I have a 5 star Uber passenger rating. If the drivers hit a little bit of traffic after they commit to pick you up, they just cancel and then you're waiting around for nothing. Also, 75% of the time I request an Uber cab, they don't have one available. I will not be using Uber anymore. read more

I hate to rewrite about my own experience again seeing as how I typed all of this once within the uber app but...I have to share. I only starting to use uber the last two weeks. I wanted to try sooner but was hesitant as I feared it may be unreliable. But because I know someone that drives for uber black I decided to give it a try. In about 6 rides I had a dirty car & 2 drivers needing the help of gps. I found both bad business but not the death sentence as all the drivers were very nice. Until this morning! Fatal mistake occurred. Called for a uber x at around 4:15. Received a call from the driver at 4:18am. He said the thing was telling him 17 minutes when the app told me 11 minutes. No biggie. Plenty of time to get to work on time. 30 minutes later...NO DRIVER!!!! Let me back up, on the call he asked me where was I going. I told the truth. I'm sure being a native Chicagoan that the area I was going was likely and under utilized uber area but I told him anyway. So after 30 minutes i called the number back of the driver. He first told me I had the wrong number when I said "hey uber, where r u...I'm waiting over 15 minutes longer" so I reply what wrong #...I just spoke to you 30 minutes ago on this phone. Surprisingly the 4:20am accent was gone. He then said oh yea YOU CANCELLED the trip. No I didn't. He hung up & I called him back after checking my phone and it read simply "driver cancelled". He told me he had another rider and was on his way to airport and nothing he could do for me. My business 6am meeting be dammed all because I trusted an app. To be clear, I never cancelled the trip. Not intentionally or somehow accidentally. I can not afford to use their services no matter the perceived discount to driving because they are dishonest & unreliable. And what really burns me is I have heard NOTHING from customer service but when I sent a 4 star compliment the response was within minutes.i can not use them any more!!! I've been a loyal fan of Uber, so it pains me to write this poor review, but service has really been going down the drain lately. I called for a cab yesterday and spoke with my driver to let him know I'd be there in a few minutes. He argued with me a little bit (it is what it is dude, I'm moving as quickly as I possibly can) and agreed to wait. I rush to my pick up location less than 5 minutes after he calls, and lo and behold, my driver not only left me, he didn't even have the decency to call or text. I open my email and find that Uber has charged me a $5 cancellation fee. I believe the terms under which a cancellation fee is charged are (a) you cancel the ride after 5 minutes or (b) you are more than 5 minutes late to your ride WITHOUT telling your driver. I did neither.. so wtf Uber?! 2 Tweets, 1 voicemail and 3 emails to Support and STILL have not heard back. Uber, c'mon, you're better than this. read more

Uber is ok if you need a town car, but if you're just catching a taxi, use another service. You'll pay standard taxi rates, plus 20%, plus an Uber booking fee - and if you get a scammy driver who keeps the meter on after you leave the car, Uber will tell you that they "don't control the rates" and can't do anything about it. Even though they approved the driver, and applied the charges. They also won't give you the taxi number so you can file a report with the city. You're screwed, and don't try to call them - they don't have a phone number. Save yourself some time and money and just use Taxi Magic, or literally any other service. read more

Here is why I love Uber, I have never had an Uber driver tell me they can only take cash because their credit card machine is broken. I have never had an uber driver tell me they can't take me because they are not going that way. Today I had both from two different taxi drivers and now I write this review from the back o an Uber X car that is clean, smells nice and the driver is pleasant and accommodating. Chicago taxi companies, I salute you with my middle finger and hope you all go broke and fold up. Pay attention to what's happening here, I can't be the only one who thinks this. read more

The best company in the city of Chicago. Uberx drivers are better than the real cabbies- friendly, cars that don't smell like shit, nice air conditioning, gum, mints, bottled water, charging stations. I could go on and on. Love this company, keep up the good work!! read more
