The shop is decent, but the owner is a bit of a hot head.
I came in to use the 10 ton press and asked ..." how much..."
he stated ...."$15 plus gst"
I said ...."cool"
After 10 min I was done straightening my vice main screw shaft (small clean project). I go to pay and his son is working the counter (owner is in the back office) and he tacks on an extra $2 for an mech enviro fee?!?!?!
I said to the son "I know it's only $2, but hey your dad never mentioned that fee, and really for using a shop press for 10 min. it seems a bit much"
The son goes to check with his dad, after a few minutes, the dad comes out saying ...."I don't really care about the $2, your bill isn't even $20" (he doesn't say that I don't have to pay the mech enviro fee...he's just pissed I asked about it)....and then states ..."if you don't like it, don't come back"
Well, I didn't like it, or his attitude, and won't come back...it's not about the $2, it's about the deal we struct when I asked him "how much" ....and about being a decent businessman. You got your $2 but lost a customer over it.
Don't hide your mech enviro fee in a line item on your web site and not mention it until a customer pays....and even if there listed on your web site make it explicit it's for every visit of every type of equipment use....and mention it when a customer asked ...."hey how much..."
Your response should be....."price, plus GST ...PLUS MECH ENVIRO FEE"
If you state a price (or a deal, or a proposition, etc.) stick to it, don't change the deal...otherwise you come off flakey and people won't trust you. read more
