Good Lord this place is a postal hell. I went here because I'm new to the area and my local one in Four Corners on University is terrible (their tiny parking lot is crazy and the staff are apathetic and slow). But this one on Amherst is actually worse. DON'T GO HERE and find another, better rated post office. I read the one on 16th St. is good, so that will be the next one I check out. Ok, this is why this place is so terrible: 1) This place only has street parking with paid meters. 2) Neither the outside nor inside doors have working handicap buttons. 3) One person working the day before Thanksgiving and the line was about 12 people deep, going out the door. There were other people there, but they were milling around instead- granted a supervisor came out after about 15 minutes of this and told a man to start taking customers to help with the line. 4) The clerk I had (initials WW, I don't recall exactly but I want to say Wendy Wu?) types excruciatingly slow, and entering the info on my customs form onto her screen took ages, audibly annoying the people waiting behind me in line- it's not my fault, the clerk pecks at the keyboard with just her index fingers! 5) After all this, I came home to find that she rang me up for some phantom $3.50 roll of clear tape? I didn't use tape! Neither did the woman before me- where and when did she scan this roll? GOD I am dreading having to call them tomorrow and telling them to give me a refund because I don't even want to deal with them on the phone after seeing what a mess this place was. The people who work at this branch just really seem to detest their jobs. I understand that a post office is busy (especially during holidays and other rush seasons), and that customers have a wide variety of concerns, but the employees here just seem determined to loathe every second of their shift, and do as little as possible in that time. I take care of almost all my shipping needs online, and only come to this branch when I've missed a package delivery and need to pick it up. It always ends up taking far longer than it should, gets me passed between at least three different employees who all tell me different things, and has me genuinely concerned my parking meter is going to run out of time before I get the box! If I need to mail a package that I cannot print a label for online, I will drive to another post office. The long lines and lack of concern about basically anything on the part of the employees is not worth the hassle. However, I will say that our delivery mail ladies and gents have been amazing over the years here - it's just the counter staff at this branch that upset me as a customer. read more

My mail was on hold for 4 weeks - this post office (20902) was unable to find it when I went to pick it up. Working with a congressional office to see if it can be recovered or find out what happened to it. Going through the process on how to avoid getting any mail of importance delivered to the house! Incompetent is too nice of a descriptor in describing how this place is managed and operates. read more

Like so many, I wish it were possible to give a one-star review. During past mail holds, we've had mail delivered, an attempted certified letter delivery, and numerous USPS packages delivered. This last hold is taking the cake- or should I say, mail. After our 10 day hold ended, our mail was delivered, but only that day's worth. I called the PO. Our carrier and this office (supervisor Harry Thornton) claim that there simply wasn't any held mail, the carrier didn't have any more mail for us, that is it. I simply cannot believe that there is only 4 pieces of mail to cover a 10 day hold, not when we average 4 pieces everyday. I called the 800 number to try to maybe get some help and was told that if that is what the PO told me, then they are correct and I will have to try to track down my mail myself, by either contacting possible senders or wait for senders to contact us. My neighborhood has been working with local officials and Congressman to figure out why this office is so inept. If you live in the area, please contact them, too, so maybe we can get a real post office. read more

My packages get constantly delivered to a different house, however their tracking system says "delivered" but obviously not to me! I tried calling in order to make a complaint but you can't get through anyone because they phone is intentionally disconnected! Unbelievable! read more

This place is a more bizarre version of hell on earth. Be prepared to wait in long lines, have the most unhelpful people on the planet, and leave in a rage. I have legitimately been here when someone will have a question and will ask the person behind the counter and the person behind the counter just stares at them. Ask the same question, blank stare. This happened 5 times until the person was so confused they just left. read more

If possible, I certainly will rank it as 0. The staff is terrible and bitchy. She typed the address incorrectly twice and asked me go back to find the correct address. I was surprised people as stupid as her even had a job!!! read more

Horrifically surly, snide, rude clerks work here. I have consistently, and with multiple clerks, been treated with such open contempt (not sure why) that I leave feeling sick. It is not just me, I see many customers being treated this way. For example, they yell "NEXT CUSTOMER" in a hurry-up voice if you don't RUN to them when their position opens, but when you arrive smiling and saying "hello", they ignore you, turn to each other, and chat with each other for 30 seconds or so while you stand there feeling like an idiot. This can happen 2-3 times while you are at the window: a pause for them to gossip about nothing much for a minute or two, letting you know in no uncertain terms that your time (not to mention basic good manners) is NOT important to them. This ensures that service is extremely slow, even while the line of people waiting stretches out the door. If you are not sure of a procedure they make sure to NOT offer any helpful information and instead give you a cold stare to let you know how stupid you are, then send you off to the back counter to figure it out as best you can on your own, after which you start over at the back of the line, praying that you got the right stuff filled out this time. I am appalled that my tax dollars pay these peoples' salaries. I have seen universally bad reviews on Google and Yelp, so I sure wish someone would investigate this place and get it into shape. Meanwhile I will drive to other USPS locations in future. read more

Terrible "service" by surly clerks who automatically assume the customer is wrong. They've lost packages and, worse, the letter carriers regularly misdeliver mail. I've also had the letter carrier leave a post card saying "sorry we missed you" for a package when I was home but no one bothered to knock or ring the bell. When I went to the Post Office the next day the clerk asked me what the package was and when I said, I don't know I just received the post card saying it couldn't be delivered she insisted that it must have been a mistake as there was no package. I asked her to check again and she grudgingly did so and, lo and behold, found a package this time but chastised me for not knowing who it was from. (It was a surprise gift.) She said if I'd told her the zip code of the sender she would have found it the first time. So it's my fault they're disorganized? The manager of this post office needs to be let go and the staff needs to be retrained to understand what service is. When I need to go to USPS I drive to Kensington even though this post office is a short walk from my home. read more
