Things the Cape May Welcome Center has: -Maps…read more-Information on Cape May -Vending machines -Restrooms -An extremely irritable employee who does not like children I had one of the only bad experiences I have ever had in Cape May at - ironically - the Welcome Center today. It was the last day of our time in Cape May. We had spent two weeks with my husband's family, who had flown in from England and whom we hadn't seen in a year and a half, and the adults were feeling rather somber. The two middle kids - boys ages 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 - were picking up on the mood and behaving more rambunctiously than usual. We took our relatives to the Welcome Center - which doubles, essentially, as the bus depot - to say goodbye, as they were taking a bus to Philly to catch their flight. I stepped out to get some drinks and snacks for the trip, and when I returned, the boys were definitely keyed up - running about the Center and making more noise than I personally would have allowed (they were being supervised by my sister-in-law and a family friend, and in their defense, the Center had no other visitors at the time and the kids were not shouting or being destructive in any way). I had literally JUST walked in and was in the middle of saying, "Boys, you need to calm down," when one of the employees stood and SHOUTED at our family friend, "GET THEM UNDER CONTROL OR GET THEM OUT!!!" I was absolutely flabbergasted. I apologized immediately, got the kids quiet, and as soon as my son again began to trot across the (still empty) Center, I immediately escorted him outside. I have no patience whatsoever for whiny, bratty, or out of control kids, nor am I the type of parent who makes excuses for her kids' bad behavior - I fully agree they were being overactive and he had every right to say something. But for an employee at at Welcome Center, of all places, to stand and shout, rather than ask us politely (at least the first time), was simply rude and unprofessional. He should be just as embarrassed about his behavior as I was about my kids' - maybe more so, given that he's the adult and should have better control over himself. Bottom line: in spite of the cute "put your face here" mermaid and pilot stand ups at the Cape May Welcome Center (and bus depot), it is apparently no place for kids.

Getting ready to retire. Spent the past four months planning my social security benefits, pension…read morepayments, etc. I must say that dealing with the SSA has been an absolute NIGHTMARE! The rudeness, wrong answers, and general sense that some of these employees could care less about their jobs has been overwhelming. I was trying to do an over-the-phone application for benefits and I was disconnected with no callback! I was actually crying! Maybe their staffing has been reduced and they are overwhelmed, but this is no way to treat a senior citizen who has worked hard her whole life and is now trying to retire. Yesterday, Brittany from the Mt. Laurel Office turned all this around. She answered my questions, particularly those about retro payments, with a clear, simple explanation. She was pleasant to deal with. I did not feel like I was speaking to someone who was only reading from a script. I felt like I was dealing with a human being who understood my frustration and tried to help. Brittany, I can't give you a raise (I would if I could), I can only give you a pat on the back. However, if SSA has any brains in their head, they will find out what you did that turned around an angry, frustrated customer, and implement a better training program for their employees. Thank you for everything!

I got hung up on young kids are employees kids that play around. Is that what social security is about or they go to the area in the back and nobody ever comes out. I worked for this to be treated as if we don't exist anymore or that social security doesn't care what they stand for.

Hey bro, that sexy lingerie you're wearing won't make you look like a superhero. But this Cape May…read more The Cape May historical district is one of the prettiest areas of the entire United States to wander around. It's walkable for most of the year except in the bitter winter months, in which case you'd have to wrap up very warm and keep the walk to a minimum. The summer sunlight and the gentle colours of Spring and Autumn are the best complement to these gorgeous coloured houses anyway. You might describe this as paradise, especially if you like history and the kind of buildings that you associate with Postcard Row in San Francisco. The whole center of town is filled with them, and many number of streets are lined with perfect gorgeous multicolored old Victorian style houses. It gives the town such a wonderful charm and makes it such a wonderful destination to visit on the East Coast. While you are in town make sure you try the ice cream delights at Fine Fellows.

This quaint little beach town with its Victorian houses and little local stores along cobblestone streets was so pleasant to walk and enjoy. The entire town was decorated in holiday lights, snowmen, reindeer and even the grinch! The center of town had a large lighted Christmas tree in a gazebo in a small park. Everything is walking distance and the local bars, restaurants and bed n breakfast inns are all In close proximity. Congress hall is a great breakfast place as well as Uncle Bills pancake house where we had an amazing breakfast at a great price. The Virginia hotel is a great place to stay and the dining experience is 5 star! Everyone was friendly and the town was clean and just overall pretty. For a beach town it was pretty busy and full for the holidays! There were tour buses which sounded like people were having a great time on with music and laughter! I guess I'll check it out again during the next 3 seasons! A nice, quick and relaxing weekend getaway!
