I've rented a U-Haul from this location twice now, and I can say it's usually the least stressful part of my moving day. The facility is really well organized and the staff here are great. When you arrive, park your car anywhere you can find room and head in to wait in line. Try and arrive about half an hour early because there's usually a lineup! Once you do reach the counter, breathe a sigh of relief - the staff know the policies and procedures inside and out and are really helpful. They know the answer to any questions you might have. I wish I never had to know this, but they have a great roadside assistance team. Our battery died halfway through our move and they had someone out there in half an hour who was super friendly and kind. Another plus? If you're going to need to truck longer, they're usually totally fine with it (as long as it's not booked right after you). Just give them a call and let them know. Downside? There's never enough people working at the counter to manage the lineups, especially in the morning. Also, there's not a great flow around the registration desk - it's always a bit chaotic. Grab a coffee before you come in and be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes to get your key.

The lady who helped me at the cash was really nice and patient, which I appreciated because moving days are already stressful enough. She explained everything clearly and didn't make me feel rushed at all. The store was also very clean and organized, which made the whole pick-up and drop-off process feel simple. Overall, such a good experience. If I ever need a truck again, I'd come back here without hesitation.

I used the online rental process which was seamless and efficient. My only worry was that i couldn't tell if i was getting a 12 or a 14 foot cube van. On the day of the move i arrived at Ottawa Truck Rental and was warmly greeted by Matt and his colleague, and he had the reservation up on his system and confirmed that the 14 footer was ready to go. He walked us out to the parking lot, walked us around the truck, pointed out important features and we wrapped up the contract at the vehicle via his wireless tablet. Truck was perfect but even better was the SERVICE from Matt - outstanding communication and front line service! I have used U-Haul a few times in the past and this was the polar opposite to the near disdain that customers seem to be treated with at U-Haul! I will continue to use Ottawa Truck Rental in the future and will highly recommend them to friends and colleagues.

I used Routes Car Rental at YOW (Ottawa Airport) via booking.com for a SUV (Nissan Rogue or…read moresimilar). Turned out GREAT! Price was much lower than other companies, and quite phenomenal -- a new SUV for 2 weeks for about $600 total (August 2019 and booked 4 months in advance). I fell in love with the new KIA Sportage handed to me with panoramic sunroof and AppleCarPlay. Unlimited mileage and I was able to drive the car into Quebec at no extra charge. 2nd driver $5/day seems low and reasonable (but I don't know what other car companies charge). Shuttle pickup at the airport and drop-off went smoothly and site is very close by. Employees on site were presentable and inspired confidence. I would definitely use Routes again and also recommend for savings and their new cars. I was uneasy at first because no one seems to have heard of Routes Car Rental, but it all turned out very well for me. Warning: booking.com took an $80 non-refundable deposit which wasn't made clear until I had booked the car. I called Booking and it is their own policy and not to do with Routes. Routes allowed fully-refundable cancellations. Routes collected the balance up-front one month prior (I had booked 4 months ahead).

This is my experience during my most recent rental experience with Routes Car Rental. A few days into my rental, I discovered that one of the tires had developed a slow leak. While traveling outside the city, I was forced to repeatedly stop and refill the tire, which was both inconvenient and concerning from a safety perspective. Upon contacting the rental office, I was told that it was my responsibility to have the issue repaired. Following these instructions, I took the vehicle to Kal Tire, where I was informed that the tire had a pre-existing issue: it had been improperly patched in a location that should not have been repaired. I was advised that the tire required full replacement and that this damage would not have been detectable through a standard visual inspection at the time of pickup. As a result, I lost a full day of my rental addressing an issue that existed prior to my use of the vehicle. I then had to return to the rental office to exchange the car, further compounding the inconvenience. What is particularly disappointing is the response I received from your staff. I was initially told that the damage was my responsibility, despite clear evidence that it was pre-existing. Upon returning the vehicle, I was told the car had been "fine" when rented out, and no acknowledgment of the issue, apology, or compensation was offered. It is unreasonable to expect customers to arrange and manage repairs for rental vehicles, especially when the issue stems from improper prior maintenance. This raises serious concerns about vehicle safety standards and quality control within your fleet. At minimum, I believe I am entitled to: Reimbursement for the time and inconvenience caused (including the lost rental day) Compensation or a partial refund for the disrupted rental experience A formal acknowledgment of the issue and steps taken to prevent similar occurrences I strongly urge Routes Car Rental to review its vehicle maintenance practices and customer service policies. Customers should not bear the burden of addressing mechanical issues that originate from inadequate prior repairs.
