Started at Iron Roots in January and have been going regularly for about 5 months to classes run by Ben and Jackie. I saw the ads on instagram but I was already interested in starting at a gym where I could be guided through workouts since I had absolutely no experience regularly going to a gym or lifting weights at all. I was concerned about joining a gym and feeling out of place as a plus sized woman who lacked any gym experience, but my time at Iron Roots has been nothing but great. Trainers are great at instructing everyone and giving individual help, there is a great focus on working at the level you are at and personal growth. You will get to know the other regulars and feel their support during workouts too. I have been able to easily slot the classes into my routine and just show up and clear my head and focus on the workouts. This isn't a gym where you pay for a membership and just show up on occasion for the equipment, this is a place for someone who wants to take the next step on their fitness journey. I have had noticeable improvements to my health and mobility since joining and I cannot wait to see how much further I'll go.

I believe they are still offering your first session for free, so there is no reason NOT to go and check them out!

By integrating my fitness goals into my daily life, I find the process far more manageable and fulfilling. Brandon and Sofia, the husband/wife team that own the gym, are the people who made me fall in love with working out. I was totally out of shape when I started with them, but I never felt embarrassed of where I was at, or like I wouldn't be able to participate. The classes are FUN. The energy is high and it always feels like you get the benefit of the group without any weird competitiveness. I tend to take boxing and barre. Boxing is a newer endeavor for men but one class got me hooked the point that I went and bought my own gloves! Barre is a shockingly hard workout, and great for when you want to feel your muscles shake (and struggle to walk the next day). Seriously, take a class. There's no wrong choice. They do a good job maximizing the limited space to fit in so many different activities. Community: I like that they also host community events, such as "Run x Lift x BBQ," which combines a group run with hot pancakes and sausages. Schedule: They start early! Tuesday-Thursday hours are 5am-8:30pm, with shorter hours on Saturday and Sunday. Check the schedule for specific class times. Prime-time classes can fill up quickly or have waitlists, especially with their smaller class sizes and specialized coaches.
