I haven't…read moreactually been inside the restaurant itself. --- Giving this review makes me sad because Piri Pronto definitely has the potential to be 4 stars in my book. My partner and I were having a lazy night in and we decided to choose a new place to try for delivery - not happy with the results. The best way to describe Piri Pronto is that they DEFINITELY know their flavours, but when it comes to actually cooking meat, a lot of it was inedible. ~ Food: Everything BESIDES the meat was absolutely delicious, which is why I say that Piri Pronto has the potential to be 4 stars - they know their way around flavours. Their garlic rice was phenomenal and highly addictive (I was so sad when I ran out of rice!) and their piri piri chips were to die for. -- Piri Piri Chicken Wings -- The sauce was amazing, but the chicken was undercooked. The meat was still very much still stuck onto the bone and slightly pink. I immediately stopped eating after 1 bite and left the chicken wings untouched. -- Lamb Picante -- Again, the sauce was amazing and went perfect with their garlic rice. However, the actual lamb chunks were very chewy and tough. It's sad when the dish description is: "Tender lamb cooked in a reduced sauce with onions, tomato & peppers with a hint of piri piri." Yeah... the lamb was anything BUT tender. --- At the end of our meal, my partner and I virtually left all the meat untouched because it was either undercooked or far too chewy and tough. Sad when a place supposedly specialises in chicken. Like I said though, it's definitely sad because everything non-meat from the rice, to the chips, to the sauces were 4-5 star quality. Maybe give it a try if you're a vegetarian.....?

Benedito's has to be my all time favourite shop in Cardiff. There are a few close contenders, but I…read morethink that Benedito's wins my affection by a fraction. It's things like the massive oven in the enclosed courtyard out the back, fuelled by gorgeous lumps of wood, used to smoke the hams and joints of meat until they are cured and delicious. And it's the fact that they have a micro arcade in the cellar, boasting a mini pool table, several slots and table football... the incongruity of it all appeals to my sense of quirkiness like a charm.... Remember this is a delicatessen!!! Brilliant! All of these things are typically Portuguese of course, and only appear to be mismatched due to the fact that they are in Cardiff. And that's another thing that I love! They have brought a little slice of Portugal to these Celtic shores, and have erected it like a beacon, unapologetically undiluted, celebrating all that it is, regardless of its locale. Joy! Then there's the food, the Segafredo coffee, and the tables out the back, accessed by a set of steps where you will find at least a couple of Portugese men in a state of repose, sitting silently drawing on cigarettes that deliver thick slices of smoke to their sturdy lungs... it's all entirely exquisite! I love nothing more to while away a peaceful hour with my latte in the yard, or under cover in the purpose built gazebo if it's raining, before returning my cup to the shop, and picking up my basket of goodies that I collected up whilst I was waiting for my coffee to be made. This place offers me a little slither of peace in a congested, fast-paced world. Thank you! In their own words... "We are suppliers of gourment food and fine wines and beers from around the world, with Portuguese produce being our speciality".

These include salt-fish, olives, Portuguese cake and wine. I popped in for some Lupini beans. Since Matt's deli on Clifton street closed I've been hard-pressed to find these salty delights anywhere in Cardiff. And I love them - they're like posh peanuts and are perfect with a beer! Beneditos has got a rustic, friendly feel to it, it's packed from ceiling to floor, even its faux wooden beams drip with salted and smoked garlics and meats. For foodies this is heaven and it's open when many other shops are closed.

She quickly recommended Nando's. We'd never heard of Nando's, since I don't believe they've made it out to the west coast of the US just yet. But based on the recommendation and the description of spicy/seasoned chicken (YUMM), we checked it out. We were very pleased with Nando's. Nando's gives kind of a semi-formal vibe. Like, upper class fast food. We were seated, and then shown how to order on our phone, right from the table. Then we were given our drink cups for self-serve, and shown the self-serve utility station. You just grab your own preference of sauces, silverware and seasonings (salt/pepper) whenever you're ready. When the food is ready, they bring it to your table. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. When the food came out, we were very pleased. The chicken was tender and juicy, with lots of flavor. I got a plate of chicken, and my wife got a chicken sammich. The spicy rice was also very good. The fries (or "chips" in the UK) were good, with a nice seasoning on them as well. The maca maca cheese was just ok, I thought. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was really good. I'd say the prices were not too bad, especially by today's standards (dang inflation), and again, it's a little elevated over fast food. All in all, we were happy with our Nando's lunch and would recommend it to anyone, especially if you've never tried it.

For a meal with a bunch of friends, the main part of the restaurant has generous tables to sit larger groups, while in the glass conservatory area you can enjoy a quiet meal for two. Obviously the menu is the same as at all other branches of Nando's, with an emphasis on simple but delicious barbecued chicken with your choice of spicy sauce (depending on how hot you like it), and side dishes such as corn on the cob, chips, coleslaw, spicy rice and salads. There are some good vegetarian options as well, though, so it's not only for meat-eaters. The roasted Portobello mushroom and grilled halloumi cheese burger is by far my favourite veggie option. One word of warning: on Wednesdays this place seems to get heaving with groups of students, perhaps after they've been playing sport - so you can be fighting for a table if there are a few of you.

I've tried all the food in St Nick's Market. i wouldn't bother with the pasta place, the Carribean place is good, the morrocan was awfulbut the Portuguese place is very special to me. This is good old-fashioned good cooking. Delicious and fresh. It's the sort of food my grandmother would have made, but she was German and these dishes are Portuguese. My grandmother was one of the finest cooks whose table I've ever had the pleasure to eat from. Wonderful stews, a great fish pie, yummy soups. The woman cooks all this food herself. She has nationally famous pasteis de nata, those crunchy, buttery egg tarts that go so well with her fantastic coffee. I don't usually even drink coffee, but I have to have these when I go here. I've taken lots of people, including my neices. Children can be hard to please but they love coming and eat it all. Not so good for veggies at the weekend, but veg soups during the week. Good value and good company. If you're ever feeling lonely, this is a nice place to eat at. It's the kind of food to warm the cockles of your heart.
