I think the best way to describe it is an expensive restaurant for Cardiff standards, while offering get up and order from the counter service. We all had the fish pie which was lovely, however the price did not reflect the food, even if it was a nice fish pie. We spent many years in London dining, but we paid London prices but did not receive London food or servings to reflect the price. What did not help the venue was the ambiance. While dinner had a great atmosphere, lunch was depressing. Empty quiet and dead light upstairs. There were lots of staff on, however only one could speak enough English to actually tell us about the menu or hold a conversation. Just to ask questions of the menu was an ordeal. All in all it's sad after we enjoyed it so much the first time. Who knows in the future we may try again

One day I got sent to Le Monde, to be a waitress for a big event they were hosting - something about the launch of a new wine? Someone did tell me but I didn't really listen that well... Anyway, so I know from that experience that the food is prepared well and safely. Not that I usually worry but it's an extra point. The food here is quite pricey but I do feel that it's really worth it. Sometimes you've just got to splash the cash a little to get some decent food. And it's worth it. I left feeling full of light, delicious, high-standard cuisine. The service was also great. Full marks all round, Le Monde!

My partner and I went for a set meal for 2 which was enough for 4 people to share with extra. We ordered extra fish to BBQ and a couple of side dishes. The service is fast and helpful if you are unsure of what each meal is. Can't wait to return with friends to share the experience.

I was honestly surprised when I found an actually good Korean restaurant in Cardiff as Korean food isn't typically one of the more well-known or popular Asian cuisines. However, if you're an adventurous eater or someone who's tried Korean food elsewhere and missing it (like myself), Kimchi is perfect! As I haven't been inside the restaurant, I can't speak much for the atmosphere or the customer service. The only thing notable about the customer service is that the delivery arrived perfectly on time and the driver was very polite and courteous. Aside from that, the main thing I care about the food and it was great! I highly recommend their bento boxes. At just over £11, it's actually a surprisingly decent value for money as the portion sizes are HUGE and extremely filling. Your choice of meat came with Korean dumplings, seaweed soup, kimchi, rice, and lovely Korean pancakes. We'd definitely order from here again or even stop by the actual restaurant if we're the area. A definite surprising find to see GREAT Korean food in Cardiff!

As a native Floridian, a love of seafood is part of my DNA, but I can't disguise my disgust at the overwhelming fish stench emanating out of this place. That said, all of the seafood here appears fresh, and I was pleased to find that the kind shop assistant was on hand to answer any of my questions. The main draw for me was the stack of lobsters in the corner freezer, bringing back childhood memories of my Old Man boiling two at a time in a massive pot and me feeling sorry for the poor things. I ate them anyway, but still. Dragon Seafood has pretty much anything you need if you're a culinary type who craves a delicacy that you can't source at your local Tesco fish counter. Me? I'll just stick to the easy-to-cook frozen salmon fillets from Morrisons.

I've never been to Pearl of the Orient before, but I really loved their neighbouring bar's food so was happy to try this place out for the special occasion. The food itself was 5 stars, but I'm taking 1 star off due to speed and portion-size. ~ Atmosphere: If you're looking for a fancy night, Pearl of the Orient really gives it. Sleek and classy, this place has all the makings of an upscale restaurant. Probably the poshest Chinese restaurant I've ever been in! ~ Customer Service: The customer service was great, but the speed was really slow. Granted, we came on Chinese New Year which also happened to fall on a Saturday night, so I can't speak for the speed of the service for other times, but we waited over an hour for our food to arrive. As I recall, Ba Orient didn't take as long with the food so it could've been entirely that the kitchen couldn't handle the packed hall of diners, and some of the chefs may have been off themselves to celebrate the New Year. So, the long wait times may possibly not be a regular thing. ~ Food: Absolutely gorgeous. I'll be honest, since I moved to Cardiff from California, I really had to lower my standards on quality Chinese food since there's little to no competition for an authentic Chinese restaurant. However, Pearl of the Orient's food is probably good enough to hold its own even in San Francisco! The Hong Kong stye crispy roasted pork was heavenly and the sea-spiced aubergine was out of this world! The meal was so delicious and you can definitely taste the quality. The only disappointing thing is the portion sizing! I ordered 7 dishes total for 3 people which normally should've been plenty, but everything was in such small portions that we were only filled up when we ordered an extra dessert. Great tasting food, but if you're looking for a Chinese-style "feast", then you definitely need to order a lot more. I would've added more orders on, but with the wait times we decided in the end to not bother. Oh yeah, for the dessert, go for the fried custard buns. OMG! --- Overall, I'm happy to give Pearl of the Orient a try again. It's a tad bit expensive, but in my opinion you're paying an extra surcharge for the magnificent decor and atmosphere. The food is incredible, but you might want to order a lot more than you had originally planned. However, if I come back another time and the horrendous wait is still in effect, I would have to pull the rating down.

The flavours unleashed were incredible as you would expect from a middle tier restaurant, you can expect to pay at least £20 a head but it is well worth it, try to avoid to much rice don't buy it just because its what you usually do. The point is to try many different meat, fish and poultry dishes not fill up on rice. The dishes come out on these little trays with fairy light candles to keep them warm a nice touch and practical. I would go as a group of 4 maybe a double date and be spontaneous try many new dishes you've never thought of having the taste is amazing. I would recommend going for special occasions, meals with family members or the introduction to the in-laws or celebrating engagement. If you are going for a birthday party It might take to long for the service, Its your call.

The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful. Although not on the menu, we asked if we could sample all the beers they make which was no issue at all and all surprisingly cheap. They had a variety of beers from light mango beer, through to chocolate beer and even a 'black' beer. The smell from each beer was incredible and the bartender told us the reasoning behind each recipe and the flavours we should be able to taste with each glass. To line our stomachs as we drank we ordered a couple of things off the menu. We had the sharing starter which was smoked salmon , tomatoes, Parma ham and goats cheese on ciabatta followed by the thermidore mussels. Both of which were very good, the sauce on the mussels was Devine, incredibly rich and creamy ! They do have quite a limited menu here (mainly mussels, pizza and salad) but what they do have looks and tastes brilliant. They have a great open kitchen with an impressive pizza oven and each pizza looked incredible. I'd definitely come back here when we have a little more time and spend a bit longer trying to beers and taking in the atmosphere. Some days of the week they even have the distillers in operating the kit while you eat and drink which I am sure would be most entertaining ! Great place 4/5

Disappointing!…read more Reservation: Reserved a table and it was mentioned that we were there for our wedding anniversary. This detail was completely ignored throughout our time there. Food: Pollo Nero - Meal sent back because the vegetables were smothered in oil and butter, and I mean smothered to where that's all you could taste or smell, even though requested to come without (dry) anything. Chicken and sauce was good on the first but the waitress took my entire plate away, just for new veggies, and the replacement was not good at all; basically flavourless cream with pepper corns thrown in it and veggies that were boiled to remove the oil/butter, but didn't eliminate that flavour. Plus, the potatoes were essentially thicker chips that were cut in half and deep fried. Lasagna - Flavourful but the pasta itself was dry and crunchy. Drinks: Asked if they could make a red wine sangria, but the waitress said no without checking with the bar staff, even though they had all the ingredients on hand based on the listed drinks menu. We had water because the staff didn't care about suggesting an alternative. Desert: Wasn't asked if we wanted anything, so requested the bill and we left. Staff: Didn't see one member of staff smile the entire time we were there. They mostly mulled around the tables looking for something to do, but when we actually wanted someone they had all disappeared. If there was a manager present the only indication was he wasn't dressed the same, but not once did he check on any table or even come by when my meal was taken back to the kitchen. Ambiance - Felt like we were in a pub and not a restaurant, with a TV on the wall and music playing far too loud for the environment. Overall - A production-line Italian restaurant which neither stood out nor was worthy of us returning. They also added a (non-mandatory) 10% tip to the final bill... this is not the US, where tipping is at the customs discretion and Not automatically added, whether one could request it be removed or not. Gave them 2 stars but it was a 1.5 star experience at most, because both the kitchen and front of house staff require extensive training and re-training. If you've low standards and okay going somewhere that's absolutely nothing special, then this place is a perfect choice to waste your money.

We looked over the menu. It was difficult to decide but I chose the Carbonara and my husband chose the Arrabiatta. I had a glass of Sauvignon blanc and my husband had a Chianti. The service was super fast! They offered us bread, but we declined. Thank goodness because the plates are very big! The pasta was al dente. It tasted like authentic Italian food. I couldn't finish my carbonara. My husband barely finished his Arrabiatta. The desserts look amazing! But unfortunately, we were too full to even think about trying one. The servers were very attentive! Everyone was checking on us. Very friendly and helpful! The restaurant is small and you'll be close to your neighbors. But I feel it adds to the charm of the restaurant. The prices are reasonable. It was only £58 for both of our meals and drinks. The location is great! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants authentic, delicious, reasonably priced Italian.
