    Review Highlights - Demiro's

Not the cheapest place to eat in the bay but not ridiculously overpriced either and good for a quality meal.

We arrived at La Cha Cha after searching for something apart from the usual chain restaurants which…read moredominate Mermaid Quay. Despite having no reservation on a busy Sunday evening (Monday was a public holiday), we were seated without having to wait, and given the wine and food menus. The restaurant and bar have a proper "Spanish" feel, with wood panelling, wooden barrels and other wine related décor, without feeling cheesy or over the top. The food was good, although not outstanding, but perfectly acceptable, and the portions of tapas a good size for sharing. The wine we picked (£18) was one of the cheaper items on the list, but was very good. Service wasn't quick, but we weren't left waiting for too long for anything. It was also good to see all the staff were Spanish! By the time we left, all the tables in the restaurant area were full, and the previously quiet bar was full of people drinking and possibly waiting for tables, so it must be quite popular.

Tapas is most definitely one of my favourite meals. There's no need for food envy, or awkwardly…read moreasking someone to share. You can try LOTS of dishes without too much commitment or judgement for having seven empty plates sitting in front of you. La Cha Cha is one of the newer Tapas and Wine Bars to open in Cardiff Bay. Once inside the décor makes you feel as though you've stepped into a wine cellar and with the help of a Spanish guitar playing in the background you almost instantly forget that your umbrella turned inside-out a few seconds before entering. My Menu Highlights: Calamari served with Aioli: £6.95 Serrano Ham, Manchego Cheese with Mixed Bread and Oils: £11.95 Chorizo Rio Jana: £6.95 ...they also have five different drink menus including Sparkling & Champagne, Rose and House Wine. I'll admit that a trip to La Cha Cha can be slightly expensive yet if you visit during the day you can get three Tapas dishes and a glass of Sangria for just £10.95! PS - It's far too dark in here to take pictures. Even a filter couldn't save me! Visit their website and take a virtual tour of their restaurant and menu.

The wine selection is ample and has a good range demonstrating what Spain has to offer. The staff are knowledgable and willing to offer an opinion. NYE 2012 - my husband and I were at a loss. Not really fancying the crowds of the City Center, or…read morethe $95 per head price tag that most restaurants were offering we opted to celebrate in Pontcanna. A friend had recommended La Cucina having had a light lunch there, so for NYE we really didn't know what to expect. A quick phone call and a warning "we will have our family here, we will not be partying but you are welcome to come for dinner" later, we decided, why not. The ground floor houses a delicatessen, and a staircase leads you up to the restaurant. More rustic loft that restaurant, the mixed furniture and chunky wooden tables give the room a very warm feel. It's almost like a food speak easy. If you are uncomfortable with small eating establishments and prefer the bigger louder feel of lets say a Jamie Oliver restaurant, this may not be for you. For me; Perfect! The waiter (the owners 17 year old son) was absolutely fantastic. Warm and welcoming he greeted us in Welsh (my native tongue so this always pleases me) and we was eager to please. The Food: To start - a beautiful glass of Spanish Cava. A great selection! Followed by cured duck and fig salad. My husband had the rabbit which just fell off the bone, like butter. Both were divine. Followed by a steak of the most beautiful Welsh Black variety - cooked perfectly with a side of seasonal vegetables. My husband had the Spanish cannelloni; bursting flavors from the meat inside and a subtle and light cream sauce enveloped the dish nicely. Desert was a dark chocolate orange cake - we weren't sure what this was going to be. A light sponge cake infused with orange zest, accompanied by a crisp and moist (I know!) dark chocolate topping. Fresh, light and delicious. The whole tab, for three courses, lots of wine and cava was $86. on NYE! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I live in NYC, where we have all the food in the world, but i just can't wait to get back to Cardiff and dine at La Cucina again.
