I've been a loyal member of CFX for over 20 years, through the highs and lows, enjoying the…read morecommunity and atmosphere that once made this gym a welcoming and professional place to train. However, after my recent experience, I am appalled and disgusted by the way I was treated--and ultimately banned--because of a rude, disrespectful young employee who clearly has no understanding of customer service, let alone basic decency. Let me be very clear: this type of treatment would have never happened under the Vrdolyak ownership. Back then, the gym staff was courteous, professional, and actually valued long-term members like me. They took pride in their business and treated every member with respect, regardless of how long they'd been there. Under the new management, it seems that's a thing of the past. It all started with a young employee who, from the beginning, had a major attitude problem. I've seen bad attitudes before, but this one was particularly appalling--eye rolls, curt responses, and an overall disdain for anyone who dared to ask a question or need assistance. I initially brushed it off, thinking maybe she was having a bad day. But after multiple encounters, it became clear that this was her standard behavior. And on one specific day, after yet another rude exchange, I decided enough was enough. I contacted the gym manager, expecting some level of professionalism and a resolution to the issue. Instead, I was blindsided when, instead of addressing the employee's behavior, I was banned from the gym! After 20 years of loyalty, decades of my hard-earned money going to this place, I was effectively kicked out because the management wanted to protect an employee with a horrible attitude rather than hold her accountable for her actions. This wasn't just a slap in the face to me--it's a complete betrayal of the values that this gym used to stand for. They clearly don't care about their long-term members anymore. They don't care about respect, or loyalty, or anything that made this gym great back in the day. It's all about protecting bad behavior from their new, poorly trained staff. CFX Gym has gone downhill, fast. If you've been considering joining, I'd highly advise against it. If this is how they treat long-time members who've invested years into their business, imagine how they'll treat newcomers. I'm beyond disappointed in what CFX has become. Under the Vrdolyak ownership, this kind of nonsense would have been dealt with swiftly and fairly. Now? It's all about saving face for the management and throwing out members who dare to expect decent treatment. What a shame. Avoid this place at all costs.

I have been part of a team for as long as I can remember; playing sports, grammar school through…read morecollege. Because I love the team aspect of sports, I have never enjoyed exercising on my own. Team has always been my draw to any fitness program I have tried, and I have tried them all. I have belonged to the local gym, bootcamps, and aerobics programs (just to name a few) and none compare to CrossFit Beverly. CFB offers top notch coaching, a$$ kicking Workouts, and an awesome team atmosphere. The owner and head coach, John is awesome. He is encouraging, enthusiastic, energetic, and knows his stuff. John is passionate about CF and it shows. He will teach you proper form and correct you if you are doing a movement wrong so you will not get hurt. He will even do a WOD with you so you won't have to do it alone. He is a family man and encourages you to bring your kid(s) to the WODs (even if you have a babysitter). John brings his daughter who is sure to cheer for you on those tough Saturday morning WODs. I love how each WOD is posted online before the workout. As soon as my alarm rings, I check the WOD. I have never been so eager to hop out of bed for a workout. It is obvious that much thought went into programming because each WOD is always challenging and makes me push past my comfort zone. CFB has all fitness levels and each WOD can be modified. As if great coaching and challenging WODs weren't enough to get me hooked, what really sets CFB apart is the supportative community and team atmosphere. I was intimidated at first, but everyone was so welcoming. I have a special place in my heart for the 6:30am crew and couldn't get through the WODs without them. Everyone encourages and pushes each other to go harder, faster and heavier. The CFB athletes are working towards a better "me" both mentally and physically which creates a great camaraderie. Bottom line, CrossFit works. You will get in the best shape of your life and have a blast doing it. Thank you to John for bringing CrossFit to Beverly!

I go at my own pace with the encouragement of the instructor and I have to say I have seen a huge improvement. The weights are getting heavier, I am lasting longer and doing more reps. The class is 50 minutes and trust me you are working just about every minute of that. Kelly the instructor is a great motivator! If it wasn't for her energetic attidute and genuine excitment to get our butts moving, I don't think I could have gotten through it on that sleepy Sunday morning. The classes are small whichs allows for a more personal feel. Kelly will take the time and make sure you are doing the moves correctly in order to get the most out of your workout. She is extrtemely knowlegdable in both fitness and nutrition...I'm telling you, this girl knows what she's doing. She also makes sure to learn all the participants names to help encourage you along the way....how cool is that? Not only are you getting a personalized workout but did I mention it's affordable? These classes will not break the bank like some of the other downtown gyms...and also you do not need to sign a contract which allows for a lot of flexibilty within your schedule. I couldn't be happier with the workout that I recieved from Kelly at Barre it All. I am still feeling the affects of it two days later (no joke). I think this gym is a great addition to the area and I can't wait to try some of the other classes offered:)

This place great…read more I confess, I've only been there once, but I am going back!! I live nowhere near there... I live near Midway Airport. I have searched and searched the south side for yoga options near my house and have found slim pickings. I used to go to Global Yoga Center when I lived up north, so I have developed expectations about what environment should be like when I practice yoga. BYC totally met those expectations. I dropped in on a Sunday evening Yin class, which was totally new to me. (BYC has descriptions of all of its classes on its website). They have a bunch of workshops coming up and I am excited about doing a couple of those. It's a clean, peaceful and friendly place. And unlike the north side, parking was plentiful. For me, it is well worth a 1/2 hour drive to get there for a yoga fix.

oftentimes, i get to relive a favorite childhood activity with my three year old - swinging so high…read more(i scare myself), playing tag (and rarely being "it"), coloring outside the lines (on purpose), eating stuff that is usually "meant" for kiddie consumption, etc... but i also find myself living vicariously through my three year old. sometimes because i just can't physically do the things she does - like yoga poses at the beverly yoga center. now, admittedly, i've never been to another yoga center so, i can't really compare the beverly yoga center with any others. but, i can tell you what i do know. the main space seems small but it's open, bright, sunny, welcoming and calming. the hardwood floors look very new and are very clean. except for one wall, it's mostly windows. but, since you're on the second floor, all you see is sky, a roof here and there and tree branches. they do have air conditioning and fans which were great when we had that heat wave. there are little cubbies when you walk in the door for your personal items. and there's a very clean, private, modern bathroom towards the back of the space. they have mats and other equipment for student use. and for extra brownie points, they don't bat an eye, when i have to break out a boob to feed my son. carley, the director was very helpful and proactive when i tried to sign my daughter up for classes when the center's phones were out of order. we played phone tag forever, but she was never impatient or annoyed about it. she's very friendly and "genuine". my daughter's teacher, adenia, is truly awesome. she has a talent for teaching children, keeping them interested, allowing them to express themselves physically and verbally, always engaging their imaginations, etc... she's very patient and kind and always happy to encourage with hugs. and she's probably as flexible as gumby. :) the center has a bevy of classes for all levels - for beginning to advanced students, toddlers to octogenarians. so, if you're interested you should check them out. in some ways, the beverly neighborhood looks like it's playing catch up with the northside neighborhoods. so, i have to applaud and encourage carley and the beverly yoga center for taking a chance on the beverly community and anchoring their center here. i know as soon as our youngest is a little older, i'll be signing up for a beginners class as well. maybe i'll see you there! :)
