The Kroc Center is a beautiful facility and its staff and members are wonderful. I've sent my son there for swimming and other activities since he was small. Now as a teenager, he can go alone and train on the basketball courts or in the gym area. While I was workout out there, I enjoyed the weight rooms where there is a good mix of equipment and you can actually get in to use them. There usually a weight for anything you need to use and the people are respectful of others if there is a wait. The staff is so great and get to know the members don't feels like a gym family. Of course, I have driven past this building several times throughout the years. Today was my very first time inside. Plenty of parking. Depending on your arrival time, you can be up front or in back. Very spacious facility; class rooms, gym, senior lounge, indoor track, weight room, exercise rooms, cafe with seating, event spaces, church, competition pool, jacuzzi and an indoor water park. There is truly something for everyone to experience. There is security on the premises both inside and outside. Very good registration process because it was so organized. There were people in place that knew exactly what they were doing. Locker room space was nice and inside each family bathroom was a shower. How clever is that. Once inside the water park area, I remember counting at least four very attentive life guards. Parents did accompany younger children and watched them to the best of their ability. The life guard's eyes were everywhere. The Kroc Center is an absolutely beautiful space. I was happy to swim with my g-baby. I appreciate the fact that even if you are not paying for a membership, you can buy a day pass good for any part of their facility. I think it's ridiculous how this place is to be for the community but the printing is ridiculous if you want to rent out their banquet hall. I called for a baby shower and the pricing for hourly 115 per hour which is fine, but they say you cannot bring your own food which forces you to have to pay for their catering. The price for catering is 22 dollars per plate which is insane you're paying almost 2000 dollars for food . This isn't a wedding event it's just a baby shower. This needs to be much more affordable for the community which is what and who it's suppose to be for. We don't mind paying the per hour but that price for food is insane if you're having 50-100 guest.. I would really like someone who is really in charge of this place to let me know why is the price insane like this. read more

Very nice and clean building in and out. I'm so glad they serve the community. They have activities for all ages, both children and adults. Kroc community servers have donations from different companies to provide the community needs. Unsafe Place: This place has gone from nice to ghetto danger, my nephew had his belongings stolen out of his lockers and was pretty much told by head staff "thats what you get for not having a lock". The security team is a joke, one guy in the front flirting with the young lady at the scan in desk and another guy in the gym hallway with his head buried in his phone and all this is happening while teens are fighting, cursing and acting wild in the gym. My nephew who has been a member for six years told me that he no longer feels safe there and does not want to go back, this is sad because he has been in their summer camps and basketball leagues for many years. Trying to get out of your contract there is complete hell! I was told that because of the time of month I would still be charged and there was nothing they could do about it. Stay away from this place it is no longer the safe haven it used to be. I was told by another parent that they brought in new managers and fired most of the staff which is sad because I did notice that Ms. Mason (who is has know my nephew for years) is no longer there. I was absolutely shocked to see how damaged the playground was given the fact that the Kroc Center is well funded... It's heartbreaking that they're not keeping this park up to standard, safety standards for young children and it feels like in our communities, brown and black, neighborhoods they're not reinvesting those donations in the facility and it's really sad. My son and I usually go to Orland Park, Oak Park, and Oak Lawn but with gas prices $6/gallon I'm trying to stay closer to the house...Unfortunately that's NOT doable given that I've noticed that no money is being invested in the parks and in our community. I work under the Illinois Department on Aging as a case manager in the South Shore neighborhood. I went to perform assessments on a couple of clients whose homes were like saunas. There was no air circulating and with the high heat and humidity we are experiencing now, my clients (who are seniors) are at high risk of dehydration, overheating, and death. They both had A/C units but they had no one to install them in their windows. I called Mr. T'Chaka Abdiraxman-Issa at the Kroc Center and inquired about how to help my clients. He was prompt in his response and gave me some wonderful resources to use for them and I was successfully able to schedule someone to assist them in installing their A/C units. I really appreciate and respect fellow professionals who recognize the urgency in certain situations and are willing to assist in helping avert a crisis. Mr. Abdiraxman-Issa, I, and my senior clients, absolutely thank you for everything! You are much appreciated and I applaud you for keeping your head and heart in tune with the community. I am writing this review to shine a light on my bittersweet 1st experience visiting The Kroc center. My family and I were invited by A friend to celebrate her son's birthday. 1st impression of the building I WAS AMAZED at how clean and well-kept the building was. Upon entering we were stopped by an EXTREMELY RUDE staff member(Unsure of her name was wearing a yellow tee and black mask and sitting at the front desk at 5:38 pm Saturday, February 18th, 2023) lady gave false pool schedule times, told us the pool was at capacity suggest we leave. Said, " they were no longer allowing anyone in". I asked to speak to the manager who came out and professionally introduced herself and explained that the pool was at capacity currently BUT the session was ending in 20mins and will be allowed to enter with the next group. I asked the host(the lady at the front desk with the yellow shirt) why couldn't she give us that same information without going back and forth, She rudely rolled her eyes, walked away, and began saying unkind remarks about us to the security guard. My sister walked to the rearest chair to sit, she was carrying a child in a car seat and bags. The last straw was when the host (lady in the yellow shirt) told her she couldn't sit in that particular sit until she paid for entry. WE WERE STANDING IN LINE TO PAY‼wow smh. The manager (Iris Mathews) continue to help us and actually went over and beyond to check on not only my party but others in line. I decided that would be a great jump start to my fitness goals and I was so right. I had small group training 3 times a week and at the end of the challenge I was down 19.9 pounds. My trainer was Zoe and he did challenge me while working out but he'd also inquire about food, and helping you in your trouble areas. He wants you to be successful. I'm ready for the next challenge! There r several seniors in the line as well. There r no accommodations for them. I was told I could register on line but I can not. Also where r the Spring Program books. The customer service is horrible. I received horrible assistance when going to inquire about a membership. A man came with his son after me and I witnessed that the customer service he received was horrible as well. The customer service lady provided no information and treated customers as if they work at the KROC Center. Attitude, Attitude, Attitude. An extremely nice young lady then provided much better customer service. I decided to join. As a member I would say that the 2 1/2 star rating is accurate. The experience (with staff) is a gamble. They arranged a tour and this is an awesome facility with a variety of classes to attend and the workout area had all the top of the line equipment. It's just a beautiful facility. I absolutely love the Kroc center. There's something for everyone. Only reason I gave them 4 stars is because when you sign up for the family membership every member on that sign sheet has to live in the same house. It sucks if you're family doesn't live together or if you have a good group of friends accomplishing goals and pushing one another. I'm very disappointed by that. read more

So my review pretty much matches the rest of the reviews I'm now seeing for the KROC center (in regards to the customer service). This review is based on a party I booked, but not the facility and it's amenities as a whole- however I do have something to say about that as well. Let's start with the good! This place offers a lot of space with several different amenities. My son took basketball lessons here in ONE of their many gyms (which are huge btw). They have a concession stand with food, a gym, track and pool and the best part is it's all very affordable especially the family prices. The BAD, and this pretty much took the cake: I booked a party here and with the price that I paid it has WAY too many restrictions that were not discussed prior to me giving them my NON-REFUNDABLE deposit smh. It's not comparable to other places for the same amount of money AT ALL, and I would NOT recommend anyone having a party here. Prior to me booking I was told in casual conversation by one of the event coordinators that I would get 30 mins to decorate. When i reconfirmed this I was then told 15 mins. Really.15 mins to decorate??? You also cannot pay for additional people to be added to their party rooms, and there is no median for the different "options" for party rooms. It's either 15, 25 or a 60 person party! It's hard to get in contact with the coordinator if you have questions concerning your party and they only seemed to be responsive when I had money that needed to be paid. I believe someone else said this same thing. Overall it's ok for a gym membership but not good for a party. I will NEVER host a party here again. read more

Most of the staff has bad attuides. Life guards are very young and they don't let the kids enjoy playing in the water every second for no reason at all they blowing they whistle. I do give 5 stars that they do have many life guards that they watch the kids in the water however like I said they blowing that whistle every second for no apparent reason the children are not endangering them selves or others they be in the pool trying to enjoy but can't because of this distraction. They need to hire much older mature life guards. The shower rooms stay dirty. Once you sign up for membership you are not given a tour so you have no idea where to go. Not to many free programs for children age 6 to ten...Security walking around looking mad all the time...I will be cancelling my membership asap read more

The Kroc center has such an opportunity to do great things in the Roseland neighborhood. The problem is the staff! They are unprofessional and crooked, the events staff are lazy and don't return calls until you are outside of the money back cancellation period, then they call and email threats; When asking for a refund they tell you, " no I'm not giving you anything, how you like that?!" They are crooks and should be investigated. Avoid doing any professional business with them, try to support the neighborhood and am reminded why you can't always do so. read more

The boxing program at the Kroc Center is a joke. You save money and your kid will learn more at the Chicago Park District, right down the street, Ada Park has an excellent boxing program and it's free. I love this place, I've been a member for over a year. There a fitness classes offered in the morning or evening, Monday- Thursday. On Friday and Saturday there are classes available in the morning. The Veteran Center is really nice. read more

I'll pass :( So i'm always looking for somewhere to take Aqua Aerobics. I heard this facility offered all types of classes so I decided to give them a try. They were offering a free 1 week trial, so I figured what a great way to check things out before making a committment. My first impression was that the facility looked very well kept, it was clean and bright. The pool area was very nice. The locker rooms were nice and clean. The actual Aqua Fit class was FABULOUS, thanks to the instructor. He reminded me of "Jerome" from the show Martin, lol. I wasn't use to a class with the instructor leading us from the edge of the pool, but it was really good, he worked us hard, which was exactly what i needed. I really wanted to sign up here, but i've had so many BAD experiences with these type of facilites (park district, ymca, etc) I decided to ask the patrons there about the service. Why did I do that, I didn't come across not ONE PERSON, that could tell me they had a positive experience. The main complaint I heard was that classes were always being cancelled or a shortage of instructors. This was my main problem when I tried the YMCA and various park districts. The classes aren't free so they are not doing us any favors at all, I paid my hard earned money so I expect to get a quality service. So why can't these city facilities get it together. Oh I know why, its because they really don't care how they treat the inner city patrons. They just treat us any kind of way and expect us to just take it. Well not this lady here! So glad that I avoided the anger and frustration that I'm sure would have ensued if I signed up as a member at this place. read more

HOWEVER, I am already disappointed with the service; no one answers the phones and they don't care; the staff is slow witted and can't answer ANY questions you have about the facilities and the programs they offer; they are getting ready to host summer programs which is clearly a money making venture for them only; I am AFRAID of the service and treatment these summer kids are going to have; I sincerely hope they can keep the children safe this summer but mind you I will definitely be on top of keeping my own family under watchful eye while they are there for this program read more

I will start off with a positive in saying that the facility is very clean and spacious however I must say that the customer service through the events department is mediocre at best. Prior to booking a pool party through the events department I was informed I would have an hour to set up the room for decorations. In the weeks leading to the party, I was given conflicting information by different staff members that we would only have either 30 min or 15min to set up. I contacted the director of operations who stated I had valid concerns due to the misinformation I was given and connected me with the director of events.She did not contact me until the afternoon before the party (through email by the way) that we would only have 30 min to set up due to the tight party schedules that they have to maintain. This would be understandable if there were another party prior to ours but we were the first party scheduled for that day. On top of that, the director informed me if we wanted to pay an additional fee we could access the room at an earlier time. I find it very telling how they claimed the room wouldn't be available but suddenly it became available when money is involved. We paid for a total of 8 pizzas but ended up only getting 5. Our party host was nice, although some of her coworkers asked for leftovers which we had no problem giving but it was very unprofessional. All paper products and utensils were supposed to have been provided, but they did not even have forks for for the cake so instead our guests were given spoons. Given the amount of money that we paid for the party, I would have expected better customer service and professionalism. The silver lining in this is that the children enjoyed the pool but I will not return again nor would I recommend booking a pool party at the Kroc Center. read more

I have been a member for approx. 2 years my rating B-. Issues ,when you walk thru the door only 75 percent of the desk will welcome you,, thats if there not in a conversation with a co worker. The lady that checks your IDs in the morning has always been friendly since day one with good morning and have a good day. The workout room ladies upstairs in the morning , one I will call two initials and he other a flower are as follows, The flower lady is sweet and non stop conversation if she seems to like you, and will be nice but avoid you if your not her favorite. As for the lady with two initials she was so friendly in the beginning but as we began to know each other and even went to breakfast she got upset while helping me do my workouts and began to get aggressive with me after i kindly asked her not to be so aggressive in her tone. She stop speaking and as i asked her why she began to cry. I did not come back for 8 months. I recently seem her, asked a question and she was slightly rude. The staff on the weekends upstairs hardly speak , and are usually bizy on there cell phones. Personally I think more white people should be hired , at least you will surely get a consistent kindness and maybe it will be an example to some of my people employed at the kroc center.
