Extremely Disappointed - Completely Unprofessional Experience My daughter had her senior prom on May 13, a once-in-a-lifetime event she had been looking forward to for months. She scheduled a hair appointment at this salon for 12:00 PM and we arrived early at 11:45 AM--only to find the salon completely closed. We waited until noon, assuming the stylist might just be running late, but no one showed up. We tried calling, texting, and messaging her through Instagram multiple times, but received absolutely no response. We waited until 12:45 PM--still nothing. At that point, we were left scrambling, trying to find a last-minute salon that could take a walk-in. Thankfully, we eventually found a place that was kind enough to help us on such short notice. But the stress, panic, and disappointment were overwhelming--especially on such an important day. What makes this worse is that this wasn't our first bad experience. Last year, the same stylist had my daughter wait 45 minutes after her scheduled appointment. We gave her the benefit of the doubt then, but clearly this is a pattern. To top it all off, the people in nearby businesses noticed our frustration and shared that this kind of behavior is common for her--apparently, many other clients have complained that she's frequently late or doesn't show up at all. Her usual excuse, we've learned, is a "medical emergency," but at this point, it sounds more like an excuse than an explanation. I cannot stress enough how unprofessional and unreliable this place is. We are extremely disappointed and would not recommend this salon to anyone. If you value your time--and especially if you're booking for a special occasion--go elsewhere. read more

First Time client . I was scheduled with Angela , the balayage wasn't that bad , but the hair cut was terrible . When I got home , everyone can notice how terrible my hair was cut . She chopped a piece off and it made my hair uneven . I was kind of skeptical about having my hair cut but hey that what's they do for work so you would think they can cut your hair right ... nope..... also they charge me $35 extra for a blowout , my hair wasn't even completely dried ...won't be returning . read more

I recently moved to Kearny and really needed a good hair salon. I stopped by this place for a wash and blowout. As soon as I walked in everyone was so pleasant. I was asked to take a seat, then taken to get my hair washed, and the lady who did my hair was such a professional. She was also very sweet, we were chatting throughout. She asked me if I had an event, I mentioned it's my birthday party. She even suggested we do curls so it will hold. My hair is so fine so the curls don't really stay, but these did. I am from Queens, NY and yelled salons for a wedding I was attending. His salon caught my eye due to the prices- everything around almost seemed unreasonable. Set up an appointment with Kristen- initially wanted an up do but called in and changed it to have down curls. They were very courteous even when I called a couple times- always sent me reminder emails and texts as well. Kristen did an amazing job with my hair- not to mention I was in and out of the salon at a good time. The price was also great. There was available street parking. I was strolling down Kearny Ave and stumbled upon this Gem. I waked into the door and was greeted by Kristen. I asked if they took walk-ins and she said with a smile; "of course". As I sat in the comfy chair I told her I wasn't sure what haircut to get. Kristen nodded and said " don't worry I'll take care of you". When she was finished I was ecstatic if how I looked. I was going to hold my tongue on a review because they did refund me after an exceptionally bad experience here, but then I saw the co-owner actually reviewed her own place and its apparent many of the reviews are from their friends/family. I initially made the decision to go there based solely on reviews here so if I can help another person avoid ruining their hair, here it goes... This was my first time in nearly 10 years getting my hair colored and the first time getting highlights so I didn't know what to expect and now I know better. First, the consultation was non-existent and they never bothered showing me a color book or anything like that to gauge the colors. Second, the foils were done far enough away from my roots and in such a configuration that I had large spots of dark that looked like massive missed areas that were visible from the front and my hairline looked like my hair had already grown out a month or two. It was so bad that I would not be able to pull my hair back in any way. Third,they said they were putting a lighter base color, instead my base color was darker than when I started. Fourth, the highlights themselves came out terribly, besides the blotches the color was streaky and gross despite my telling them at least 100 times that I wanted it to look natural. At the end they (Jessica initially did the work, but then Kristen tried to help her fix it at the end) tried justifying it based on their own mistakes (one of their excuses was something about the darker base color making the extra highlights they tried to put in to fix the mistakes turning out orangey because they didn't or weren't able to leave it long enough, but my hair was totally virgin when I walked in). All this took something like 4 hours and I walked out feeling like a clown. They even had the gall to charge me, including charges for extra use of dye, and I was in too much shock to argue. To her credit, Kristen offered me an appointment for the next day to fix the mess (basically adding a glaze to cover up what they'd done), but they had made so many mistakes that it was just not reasonable to let them touch my hair again. When I went to wash my hair and tried to figure out how to fix it, my hair felt like straw and like it was going to fall out from the terrible processing. That's when I called them to get my money back because nearly $200 to want to cry about my hair and need to hire someone to fix it is just not OK. I had a very important event coming up so I was really upset and was able to get myself an emergency appointment with HiLights that saved my month. I will still need to do more fixing to actually get highlights, but the emergency fix at least made me presentable for my event and basically took me back to something close to my original color (so 6-7 hours and hundreds of dollars later I basically got some gentle highlights and covered up a little gray). HiLights also had to give me an on the house conditioning treatment to help correct the straw. The long and the short of it, don't go here and if you do, most definitely don't get highlights with Jessica unless you're her aunt, then I'm sure you know what you're signing up for. Instead go to nearby HiLights, which is awesome. read more
