First Rate went well above and beyond to fix an issue that happened during the move. The movers were very careful but in transporting a rather delicate bench, the arm was broken. Brian drove up to our house in Annapolis to repair it. And not only did he come once, but he came back a second time to make sure it was done properly and to our satisfaction. I would say that is pretty unusual in today's business environment. This was such a personal response that truly showed how these people care!

That move was horrible. Even though I opted to have Kenneth come out to see our home (and belongings) and give us a price "guarentee", he underestimated the size truck we needed and I was forced to rent a 15' U-haul. His response when we called to say everything wouldn't fit?? That we lied about how much we were moving...we said we were selling items. When I insisted that was not our conversation, his response then: " If you think I lied let me know now and I'll pull my men." Seriously. Settlement was the next day and he knew I had no options. His crew knew space would be tight so they stacked our items without thought of what was being stacked on what. When we go to the storage unit boxes were crushed, even plastic totes. Because we arrived at the storage unit so late in the evening (after the unit was closed because I had to run around town and find a rental truck)) I was forced to stand at the front door to keep the automatic doors open. I was not able to see how badly they were moving items into the unit. That move was bad enough but I'll move forward to when I removed my items. So many items broken, scratched, busted, reuined. The most expensive item was a top of the line Beautyrest mattress. Only 7 years old and cost over $1500. It was stored on it's side. The "stuffing" fell and the mattress was absolutly ruined. There was a park bench given to my husband 15 years ago. Crushed from the weight of items stacked on it. Many pieces of furniture scratched. Kenneth response: we should know you can't store a matress for so long....we can't prove the damage was caused by his guys... The only item he was willing to take responsibity for was the bench. He offered me .06 cents per pound. It was a 100lb bench so he offered $6.00! No customer service. No accountability. No professionalism. Some pictures of the damage attached.

They broke my daughter's bed and her nightstand. This is a REAL wood bedroom set that cost me clost to 10 grand. My daughter had to spend our 1st night in our new place on the couch. They also chipped my work desk and my bedroom nightstand. After contacting the owner, I have received no phone call back, no email back, and no response from their supposed insurance company either. Upon arrival she said because of the size, that it would be an additional $50 to move our tv since there was no box (she explained it was so their insurance would cover it. But they broke the tv and after their insurance wouldn't give their money for their fault, we were stuck paying $700 for a move and then having to buy a tv for $600 to replace the one they broke. They asked for photos, said they would pay us in 30 days, and still haven't a month and a half later. We will have to take legal action against them but I wanted to warn everyone not to use them. They overcharge for random fees and are incredibly difficult if something happens.

Thumbtack said $120 per hour which was the only reason I booked this company. I also submitted photos of all FIVE pieces that needed moving along with a description of what everything was and that it was coming from the top floor of a townhouse, which the app stated I would receive an updated estimate of it were to be different than the $120 as advertised. Days go by, my estimate never changed but when they showed up, he said $350..... so less than 2 hours of work somehow became $350 worth but was advertised as $120 per hour. I was very thorough with my description of the job so I should have been notified in advance that the rate online would be nowhere near what he was planning to charge. This was the first issue. The second issue being that he scratched the hell out of one of my dressers! Didn't say anything, just scratched it up, left and I saw it after I already wasted my money. The third issue is he asked MY permission to take a picture with ME and post it. I gave permission, however, he proceeded to post a whole video showing many things in my dad's house, stuff that had absolutely nothing to do with the move that they never laid a hand on and worst of all, a drive by of the house. My dad is livid this man shared things that had absolutely nothing to do with the move (FALSE ADVERTISING) and HE did not give permission to post his house on instagram and/or belongings in it. The owner presented it as he was interested in a few pieces my dad had build and just wanted a picture of them. Never stated he would be posting his stuff on instagram. My dad does not do instagram, he doesn't do advertising the wrong rate and he definitely doesn't appreciate the unprofessional, nasty response this man left on my other review (which I left a picture of his response attached to this review) Finally, my dad asked them to move something from his basement to garage. I asked him not to and he asked movers anyway. Should have said no if you did not want to move it. No need to be nasty in your reply to my review, lying saying you moved it to a different residence when you didn't. You don't seem to be a very truthful person based on my experience with you and rather than an appropriate response to the review, you proceeded to show who you are, as well as the private message you sent me. Moral of the story is I would not recommend this unprofessional business to anyone because he changed the rate yet had pictures and description of the entire job and should have updated the estimate or declined, scratched up my furniture, posted things he didn't have permission for and then showed his nasty attitude when I simply shared my bad experience with him and his company. Please learn from this experience and try to be more professional with your future jobs and don't private message a dissatisfied customer a gross message that they could very well share with their review as well.
