Tried for dinner and not as good but for a Monday night in mid winter in an area where good food is hard to come by I would still recommend it. Despite issues with the girl who served us the food was ok and compared to the hellhole hotel we ate at the night before it was great! The Anchor steam beer was great too!

The gentle, pleasant odour of the salty, splashing azure waters just over the other side of the bowls club gives that signature seaside getaway sense. The memories of the hunger for fish n chips, sand in between your toes and a light touch of sunburn come flooding back as we walk in the door. It's good to be back. Although this time, instead of fish and chips, we opted to share the tomahawk steak dinner special with tapas starters. Oh man, two of my most favouritest meal varieties in all the world, combined into one utterly decadent dinner treat for the senses! Between three adults and one child, we plowed through the delish tapas treats and the perfectly cooked steak with aplomb. Service was outstanding. Friendly, not too OTT, timely, discreet and open to questions/providing suggestions. By the end of the meal, I was well-fed, laughing heartily, wine-soaked like an upper-class pirate, and just about ready for a dip in the sea! It's not an obvious destination if you're in from out of state, but well worth a visit if you can find it.

Now…read moreput it all on the one menu, serve it up in a pub style place that looks like Paul Hogan has spewed Crocodile Dundee all over it after having a night out on too much Hawaiian tiki food. It sounds like a recipe for disaster doesn't it? Well for the first (and probably only) time in your life that's where you'd be wrong. This place is packed, even on a Sunday night in winter in the quiet, peaceful Victor Harbor. With people drinking beers at the bar, old school 70s bands playing over the radio, or live (think Wendy Matthews and Rick Price - not the impersonators), to cramming in large tables of families inside the cafe and out, it has a buzz and atmosphere that is refreshing for this town. We ate the salmon pizza with a dill and caper mayo, the meat lovers and the vegetarian. The family sized are huge and probably 1 pizza between 2 is enough. I was so incredibly impressed with the pizzas though. A crispy base with medium crust, plenty of toppings and great, simple flavours that didn't get lost in too much cheese or tomato sauce base. Service is painfully slow. You have to go up to a packed bar to order everything and when the place is busy you can expect to wait up to 30 minutes for your food. But it makes a good excuse for tearing into a tasty pizza when it arrives.

It was so lovely, we went back with a friend and, insanely busy though it was, it did not disappoint. A nice service touch was the manager warning us of delay...good manners, I thought. Probably the best coffee in Victor Harbor…read more I walked in on a sleepy Thursday morning for breakfast to be greeted by warm, friendly staff. The front of the menu was warm and friendly too - they welcome American Express. You rarely get that from small business. It's usually: 3%, or a bitter 'NUP!' And the friendliness continued. No charge for soy milk. What? And they don't use So Good. They use Silk, the choice of Bar 9, Pollen, et al. I ordered the Eggs Benny. Nicely poached eggs, sautéed spinach, and ham, on sourdough. The hollandaise didn't taste house made but was zesty enough. Often when travelling to regional places you end up sampling food that tries to emulate that of the city, without quite getting there. Bavaria, while nothing groundbreaking, does a decent breakfast and a decent coffee, and sure pleased this city slicker.

My…read morefriend and I spent a decent amount of time scaling the area being we stumbled across this little gem. It looked appealing from the outside as it didn't look to over-fancy or to simple. Although I must say I do feel the decor was somewhat dated to modern day times with shown basic coloured walls, bench tops and tables ... But nothing a lovely paint job, feature walls or wallpaper, and some new furniture wouldn't fix. Perhaps a theme maybe. On top of this the food was awesome. I dined with one friend of mine for a simple luncheon to satisfy growing hunger pains. The menu boasted a large breakfast menu on the front page with things like bacon and egg dishes, signature Eggs Benedict "Benny" and Eggs Florentine "Florry" dishes, vegetarian breakfasts, croissants and a large variety. My friend ordered a basic breakfast plate with bacon, eggs, mushrooms, avocado, spinach and tomato. The one think I noticed was that the spinach wasn't sautéed, it was almost more garnish style. Never mind. What caught my attention more was the burger menu which was another page devoted to. I should have make some notes because I can't really remember- but I'm sure I saw a vegetarian patty burger, Chicken schnitzel burger- which is what I settled with. It was delicious! Absolutely amazing. Tasted very fresh with a decent amount of fresh leafy lettuce and tomato. The schnitzel with thick, juicy and tasty, and fit the burger perfectly. I ordered a side of chips which are an optional extra for those after something more with their meal. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal and was well and truly filled up after consuming every crumb. One small thing that stayed in my mind was the fact that the waitress asked if I'd like any sauce with my dish, and then in-fact brought out a sauce bottle for the table at no extra charge. I'm not a real saucy person, but for those who'd love extra sauce with their meal this is a great bonus! And I know a few who do every time. I did really like this place and enjoyed their patronage throughly. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. When we first arrived there was one free table which needed clearing, which the staff tended to straight away, as well as wiping it over. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxing, with a great view of the park area and beaches nearby. Next time I'm down this way I'll definitely be coming back here for a burger or 2 with a group of friends.
