Now I hate to can a place that is trying to provide a vegan option but wow. Not good I'm afraid. My burger was passable but expensive for what it was, my wife's was inedible. The 'felafel' was unlike anything is seen before. Grey and hard. They'd have better luck calling it a mock chicken burger. Probably not somewhere I'll ever come back for.

I've had a burger from here, and fish and chips, and have been happy with both. What I have to say they excel with though is the milk shakes - classically creamy ice cream and milk creations, with lashings of your chosen flavour mixed through, you can get a classically impressive milkshake from here. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, they will give you home style food at a home style price - the service is friendly, just like you'd expect from a 'diner' style location. Old style value, old style quality - well recommended in the Victor main street. There's plenty of tables inside, and a smattering outside - I can't really fault this place at all.

Anyway, when I recently came down to Victor to relive the old days I decided to pay this place a visit. Basically it is purely a fish and chip shop, and even has a nice sit down area, though that is not really the purpose of coming here (take away is much better). The chips aren't all that bad, and the dim sims are pretty nice as well. However, one should be aware that this place does get pretty busy during the high seasons.

This one wins over all the other places to dine in Victor for one thing, and one thing alone, the Mango Macadamia cheesecake in the McCafe. I know McDonalds is a chain. I know every single store has access to the cheesecake. What I can depend on, here, is getting a piece when I want one. For some reason, there is always Mango Macadamia cheesecake in the McCafe, whereas so many other Macca's have sold it, or don't carry it. Ok. so I can be a little bit obsessive about this particular offering. I've driven to three McDonalds chasing a slice in town. If you haven't tried it, and like you cheesecake and dessert and stuff like that, hunt down a slice, with your favoured choice of coffee, and enjoy. And remember, when you're craving it, and you can't find any, there'll be some, here, waiting. :)

It's not even like it's one staff member, I'm talking here lunch, dinner, random mid afternoon, over multiple visits over some three years - every single time, there's a noticeable delay in getting your food. They do, however, get the order right. In all those visits here, I've never once had an order with incorrect food in it. As far as the food itself, likewise, it's been what I expect from KFC - no stale chips or dried out chicken. That's saying something, too, maybe all the stores should slow down some and make sure they're doing it right?

We ate the salmon pizza with a dill and caper mayo, the meat lovers and the vegetarian. The family sized are huge and probably 1 pizza between 2 is enough. I was so incredibly impressed with the pizzas though. A crispy base with medium crust, plenty of toppings and great, simple flavours that didn't get lost in too much cheese or tomato sauce base. Service is painfully slow. You have to go up to a packed bar to order everything and when the place is busy you can expect to wait up to 30 minutes for your food. But it makes a good excuse for tearing into a tasty pizza when it arrives.

I'm judging this as a takeaway joint rather than a sit down cafe - the food is great, but make sure you take it to the beach as the cafe is really just a kitchen with some chairs to wait in. I had the combination yiros of chicken and lamb, it was tasty, cooked well and the ingredients were very fresh. Chips are tasty and not too salty too. The store offers quite a few good things including pizzas and other classics that I will have to try next time I am down here. Nothing is better than having some of this scrumptious food at the beach that is less than one kilometer away. The day I went there it was sunny and 23 degrees - a perfect experience.

It's not just a cafe, they have their own label wines by the bottle or glass, they sell local organic produce and stock artisan breads and gourmet food lines. The fare includes local fish and chips, focaccias, usually a pie, curries, lasagnes and salads. So to the food. I had the New Yorker sandwich, a lovely big focaccia style bread brimming with good pastrami, sauerkraut, melty cheese, spinach and mustard pickles. Very tasty indeed. The Doc had the duck pie, great flavours but unfortunately nuked back to life in the microwave so pastry a bit soggy. Needed a little good quality chutney or something on the side too. All the meals are served in cute little cardboard boxes and they do a good coffee too. Come down in January when all the local holiday houses are occupied and this place is packed from morning to close. In a place with a dearth of places to eat, this definitely stands out amongst them.

This is very…read moredisappointing practice from a cafe that promotes values of sustainability, bio-diversity, fair trade and lowering the carbon footprint. A switched on older couple sitting next to us also pointed out the carboard cartons, wondering if they were recycled. I then asked the waitress if the packaging that our meal was served on would be recycled or go in the rubbish and she went to ask another staff person. She reported back that it would go in the rubbish as all meals are served ready-to-go and the cardboard cartons for dine-in meals saves on dishwasher water. I am unconvined by this logic and unimpressed by eco-marketing that embraces some aspects of sustainability to suit their buisness and disregards other elements such as recycling and contributing to landfill. This cafe does good business and would be generating significant amounts of waste from eco-minded customers who, based on the cafe's promotional information, believe they are supporting an environmentally sustainable business. It would not be difficult to recycle the cardboard or explore other options such as bamboo plates that are biodegradeable, employing a good old fashioned dishwasher, or using economy cycles on an industrial dishwasher and then recycling the greywater into their back garden cafe area where it could nourish herbs and vegies. It was awkward to eat my salad out of the carboard box inside a cardboard carton and my spanakopita was microwaved which made it soggy and not as fresh tasting as I had anticipated. The cushions on the outside chairs were very dirty and needed a wash too ... they don't need to be thrown into the garbage along with the cardboard plates! It is fantastic to see cafes like the Jetty Food Store supporting local growers , practising fair trade, selling organic produce etcetera, but dig a little deeper and the eco-bubble bursts. I won't be going back.
