Pizza was surprisingly good in this beach side town. Grilled chicken salad had fresh vegetables but far too much dressing. Our service was good for mid-afternoon but several tables around us remained dirty long after the diners left. Ice creams and coffee looked good but we didn't order. read more

This review is for Nino's Cafe in Victor Harbor. There were proud signs displayed that told us they've been around since 1974. Nino's is a Victor Harbor icon which is located in the heart of Victor's main street precinct and well known by locals and tourists alike. It was just a regular weekday and it was almost two thirty when we arrived and yet there were lots of diners inside and out. Some were lingering over lunch while others were having a coffee and sneaky cake and if I forget to mention it later, their cake selection is just awesome! The staff were friendly and although we weren't greeted right away we felt like we'd walked into a friend's home and felt immediately welcome. It's a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We found ourselves a table and were brought a couple of lunch menu's. I don't think the decor has changed much over the last few years but I also think that there's a charm and sense of comfort to this familiarity. The menu was ok for a lunch menu. There was a good amount of pizza choices, a few pastas and some other lunch type foods such as burgers and focaccia's. Hubby kept looking through the menu but that smell of the pizza's cooking did not allow him to consider any other menu item. It was really enticing!! I decided to go for a pasta but as I didn't want chili, seafood or a cream base, was limited to the spaghetti bolognese. We also ordered some fries to share while our food was being cooked. Our waiter was lovely but he took this order by memory and fifteen minutes later I wondered if he'd forgotten because the fries still hadn't come... A little while later, all the food came out at once. That kind of defeats the purpose of having a starter... There was nothing wrong with the fries and they were a decent serve, I just didn't really feel like having them when I had my pasta in front of me. Hubby's pizza looked delicious! You never really know what kind of pizza base you're going to get. Myself, I like them the traditional way.. .a little spongier but still with a firm base. This one here was ok, but (Sorry Nino) it felt like a pre made base I could have bought from Coles. Hubby really loved the toppings which were generous and fresh and honestly, the base was ok too, I guess it just depends on what you're expectations are. I'm an Italian-Australian and my mama would not make a pizza base like that. In any case, hubby had all of it minus the crusts which he lovingly gave to me (we have a perfect marriage - one who loves crusts, and one who doesn't) but realised his stomach had forgotten to signal that he was full and was quite uncomfortable for the rest of the afternoon! I felt like I hadn't had pasta for a while (though I have) and was really craving this meal! When it comes to pasta, I really wish they'd let you put your own cheese on. . My pasta was ok. I didn't have any major complaints. I normally choose a "napolitana" sauce because I really just love good tomatoes and basil over my pasta so I wasn't disappointed that there was barely any meat in this Bolognese sauce. I really had to search for it. If you advertise something as being "Bolognese" then you should be able to taste it right? Still, it wasn't bad and it did hit the spot. My complaints are little ones and I would have no hesitation in going back to Nino's. There's just something about that place! And next time, I'd definitely have to leave room for a cake and coffee!! read more

After my 1st experience at Nino's I wasn't too impressed, service was slow, no water offered we had to ask and when it did arrive the glasses were dirty. The meal took quite a long time considering one would have been pre-made and just baked to order but very tasty once it arrived. Presentation was beautiful and the atmosphere was very nice. After the 2nd experience last night wow what a difference!! After a tiny downside for the tables were still not set after a busy lunch service (understandable) we were seated with water to our table by a friendly waitress. After only a 20 minute wait for food it was absolutely delicious!! I had a prosciutto pizza and my husband had the calamari (which I also tried) they where phenomenal! Again presentation was amazing and service was exemplary. Defiantly my new fave in Victor Harbor! read more

I've actually had a good dine in experience at Nino's, but it's just been completely overshadowed by tonight's offering. We're down for the weekend, with friends, and thought pizza was the go, rather than cooking after a long week. Orders were placed, just after 8pm on a Friday night, with a 45 minute expected time for pickup.... A little long, but I guess busy is busy, and 45 minutes goes quick enough. Quarter to nine we head over for our two extra large pizza's, which were ready and waiting, bring them home and settle in for our feast, only to be completely disillusioned by the size of the pizzas - barely any bigger than a large from most other pizzerias. They were fresh enough... Plenty of toppings and a nice, genuine thin base - but at $28 a pop there just wasn't a lot there.... Between four adults and two kids under 12 we cleared them up, but expected to have leftovers for lunch the next day. Seriously dissapointed - we won't be back. read more

It looks like your typical Italian cafe, but the food we had for lunch was better than most. The Cajun chicken burger was awesome! It left all those burger specialty places popping up in Adelaide for dead (caution: it's pretty spicy, for those who like things mild). The side of French Fries was perfect, too; light and crispy, and salted just right. My wife had the Zucca pizza, which was fantastic too. They happily boxed up the remains for us. Service was nice and friendly; perhaps a bit on the slow side, but fine if you're not in a hurry. We sat in an open doorway enjoying the crisp Victor Harbor sunshine on a Winter's day. Good quality coffee and cappucino with cake rounded out the meal nickely. This place has a great selection of cakes and cheesecakes, which are quite different to the standard selection of cakes at your average Italian cafe in Adelaide. read more

Started out looking like this may have been a flop due to the wait, however after some very good customer service from a waitress we decided to hang in there. We ordered the bruschetta and a pepperoni pizza. The bruschetta was the best I've had, the bread second to none. We should have ordered 5 of these, seriously! Well marinated tomatoes that were fresh and tasty, even my wife raved about them and she doesn't particularly like straight tomato. The pizza.. mm. A bit oily, and quite salty, however somehow with a total abundance of sauce, and just enough cheese (I hate too much cheese!) along with oregano, basil, and some of the tastiest pepperoni around just absolutely wiped me out. I LOVE a pizza with a ton of sauce on it! The only reason I mark this place down is that it was a bit oily, and a bit over the top on the salt. We had lunch at Nino's and shared two small pizzas between 3 people. The portions were big enough and the pizzas were good. Not great, but perfectly fine for the price (around $16 each). Keep in mind that Victor Harbor is a tourist spot and in this location, they surely get enough customers, no matter what. Thumbs up for the waitress who was very friendly and quick! Oh, and they have a couple of tables outside, which is really nice during summer. read more

If you haven't eaten here yet, you should plan to. It is in my opinion one of the best " no fail" places in town. Their pizzas are to die for, and they have plenty of healthy options too. It's good to book ahead as the locals know too well about the great quality food and often fill the place up. read more

One word "outstanding" in every way, excellent service, food, value and attention to detail. Don't go there just for the pizza.. Yes, I'm impressed, the steak was perfect and so was the Calamari.
