We plan to go back even if we live a half-hour away in Louisiana. Much better Mex food than we find in Louisiana - that's for sure, even better then the one we have just around the corner. The Shrimp Quesadilla were just a "bit" spicy but the Avocado dip was fantastic. I ordered the summer plate which consisted of a chile con queso tostada, bean tostada, guac & queso, and beef taco which came with no toppings? Literally just ground beef in a corn shell. Let me start by disclosing that I don't have anything bad to say about my experience at this place. No waiter-from-he[[ horror stories or gastronomic cautionary tales here. Everything was just fine. The problem is I don't have much to say about my experience at Two Amigos at all. My impression of the restaurant from the perspective of every conceivable category was neither offended nor delighted. The food was... fine. The service was... fine. The atmosphere was... fine. The menu selection and pricing were... fine. If tomorrow I am out with a group of friends and someone says, "hey let's go to Two Amigos," I would join them without complaint. But if another in the group replied, "oh no, I hate that place," I would not be sorry to go anywhere else either. Even now, as I'm writing this, I'm having difficulty maintaining the bland, generic memories I have of the place in my mind. I might forget about it altogether eventually - but not because anything was "wrong" with the eatery. So, by all means, go ahead and visit Two Amigos. I don't suspect you'll have a terrible time there. And hopefully your experience will be more enjoyable than mine. What have you got to lose? read more

My family and I visit regularly(once a month). The staff and management are very friendly and remember us and our orders. They check on us frequently and make sure we don't need anything. The manager usually stops by towards the end of our meal to see if we enjoyed our meal. I always get the fish and shrimp ceviche. It's better than I've had anywhere else. To the surprise of one of my dining companions, our server was not a Spanish-speaker. I guess we're so close to Louisiana I could have tried French, but I don't think so. I had the Chimichanga since it had been a long day driving. Queso was extra and that seemed unnecessary to me, but maybe it was necessary. After a failed excursion to JB's Barbecue (either they disappeared in the last two months or closed early and turned all their lights off), I was desperately hungry and just wanted to eat at the first place I found. This one had a lot of cars in the lot, so I figured okay, let me get some authentic Tex-Mex in Texas (since it's not authentic anywhere else). Sure enough, that's what you get here. Mexican ingredients, Texas flavor, not a hint of Mexican-ness to it so just know what you're getting into. Service: Starting with this. Service was attentive but I got the distinct impression my waitress was unhappy serving me. I think she figured I was a one-person table ordering one meal, so she would get a relatively small tip for her time spent. I understand that, but a good waitress would make you feel special even as one person. I've really never gotten this impression from waitstaff before, so I have to pin it on her. Everyone else was really friendly. I didn't get her name, because this was just an impression. Food: Everything tasted like Americanized Mexican. It's all very reasonably priced. I ordered the quail, which takes 20+ minutes to prepare. It came out deliciously seasoned with a fajita-like presentation - sizzling with peppers and onions on a mini frying pan, multiple tortillas, rice, beans, pico, guac. I pulled off enough meat for two fajitas, ate the third one as veg, and spent 15 minutes picking meat off tiny bones. Very well seasoned meat. Superb. Unique. Definitely glad my waitress recommended it to me. But not for everyone. I finished the meal with sopapillas, which were also Americanized - fried doughy-tortillaey wedges drizzled with cinnamon, sugar, and caramel sauce. If I came here expecting Mexican, I'd have also given a one or two star review. But I knew what I was getting into and decided to make the best of it. With the road construction, this place was somewhat difficult to access. However, we are glad we found it. We stopped while traveling. We ordered the street tacos and the tacos al pastor (3 each). The chips and salsa were great, and the food was excellent. Everything was seasoned well. The service was superior and quick. The prices were reasonable. I ran out of my first glass of water, gave plenty of opportunity & looks of desperation only to no avail. & both my cousin & her husband got sick after eating the food.... Need I say more? After this experience, I discovered word on the street (supposedly from the mouth of a former employee) is that they allegedly re-use the hot sauce; as in, if customers have hot sauce left over after they leave they'll dump the used hot sauce back in with the rest of the sauce to reuse on the next customers.... read more

2 amigos, more like 2 good 2 be true! No, but really, decent Mexican food for off the interstate with a great price. 2 giant drinks and 2 large meals for $33. A friendly hostess greeted us at the door and immediately sat us. We were in and out within an hour. Overall good experience for a quick alternative to fast food on a road trip. read more

Great service. Good food. Easy location to get to from the highway. Loved the free ice cream in the summer and the free sopapillas on Sundays. Finally a Mexican restaurant that lives up to my expectations! Since moving to Texas I have not been able to find really good Mexican, and it's been so frustrating! Now I know where to go. The service is excellent. The staff is very friendly and after visiting just a couple of times they remember your face. The food is excellent and always comes out fast. I've tried something different every time I've been and have like everything I've tried. The California Burrito is delicious and by far my favorite item on the menu. We stopped here because of the good reviews but our experience was not good. We ordered queso and while the flavor was ok it was so thin you couldn't keep it on the chips which were not the greatest. Husbands chicken fajitas were dry the grilled onions under cooked. My barbacoa was nasty. It tasted like it was spoiled or had fish juice leaked into it. I didn't eat it at all. We thought two of our party ordered off the lunch menu but apparently we were not charged lunch prices. I am not sure but our 47.00 bill was not correct. I didn't find out until we had left. What a gem to stumble across! We were staying at the Best Texan down the street and didn't have high expectations of finding somewhere to eat. But we were pleasantly surprised! I have been eating faithfully every week @ Two Amigo's for over 4 years while I was was living in Nederland. Close to a year now, I eat there 2-4 times/week since moving to Orange. Service was always great & I loved their hot sauce. The owners, waiters & waitresses knew how faithful I was at eating there and brought in new customers. Today, I experienced the worst, unprofessional, rude, disturbing, crazy, obscene behavior from Alfonso, part-owner. Today, I ordered water & a cheese enchilada, unlike anything I ever order. Their food is by far NOT the greatest but I did love their hot sauce, wanted to support them when I could have been going to the other 5+ Mexican restaurants in Orange, i was always made to feel welcomed and liked. The waitress brought out my water, basket of chips, salsa , cheese enchilada and ticket. When she came to take my empty plate, pshe asked if I wanted anything else. I asked for more salsa, chips & water. When she brought my basket of chips (only 10 chips and that included crumbs), Alfonso, part-owner walked behind her, stopped at my table & never once spoke to me. Unlike his behavior. I jokenly laughed & said "wow, what happen to the chips?" He immediately raised his voice so loud & gave me the most evil look that everyone in the restaurant saw & heard. Alfonso started yelling at me & got so irate saying "you want to pay for these chips, you dnt get more chips with just a cheese enchilada & water." I replied in such disbelief of his behavior... "I have been faithful at coming to your restaurant and you know it. I pay enough here weekly to keep your lights on and you just humiliated myself & you as an owner by your unprofessional, uncalled, selfish behavior." Alfonso was yelling at me across the restaurant while bringing stuff to different customers. He then came to my table...jerked the chips, salsa & ticket & told me "good riddens, don't ever come back here." I got up to leave & he yelled "so, your not going to pay your $2.45 tab, I'm going to call the cops on you." Remember...he jerked the ticket off my table because of his irate behavior. I stopped in the lobby to leave the money on the counter after having the ticket jerked off of my table. The waitress came up to me with the ticket and said "I'm so very sorry for what he just did to you." Alfonso was still yelling gestures at me in front of workers & customers. The owners are known for drinking while working during their 10-12 shift. For anyone that eats there or plans on eating there, please rethink again before going back or eating there for your first time. I was very loyal to them and I am in such awe that a business owner that is in competition would treat one of their faithful customers or anyone period with such character! read more

I have finally found a great Mexican place in Orange TX. I tried La Cantina and was so disappointed I knew I had to keep looking and after a couple weeks, I'm new here, I found just what I was looking for at Two Amigos. The food is amazing! I used my usual salsa litmus test (if the salsa is fresh and tastes great the food will be equally good) and after one bite of the chips and salsa I new I was in for a treat. I am working in the area for the next few months so I need a place to grab some quality food after a long day and this place is it. The service has been a little over bearing at times, but I guess that's better than being neglected. It is an art to know what your guests need and what will annoy them. Coming over ever 2 minutes to see if I need anything and asking how the food is, that's a little too much. If I run out of something refill it and let's leave it at that. Other than that small issue with the service this place is where I will be dining for my time in Orange. Margaritas are great, chips and salsa are great, food is out of this world. For all that I can deal with an annoying server. read more
