Was trying to call in a pick-up order for my 80 year old grandmother and was told she could come to wait in line herself. When told that the person wanting ice cream was elderly and asking if I could place a pick up order, I was rudely told that calling in a pick-up order would be "unfair to the people already in line" and that someone could go to wait in the line for her. I find this extremely dangerous and agist. We are still in a pandemic and grocery stores and other establishments still have special hours and curbside pickup to keep the elderly safe. I understand wanting to keep things fair, but I think Twist & Shake in Winthrop should consider being more accommodating and inclusive to the elderly. Elders do not want to have to rely on their families just to get ice cream from a local business, frankly some don't have family to rely on. Also, I have been in this line since COVID-19 and while most employees are accommodating and chipper, it is packed and there are way too many people inside at one time. We will not be supporting this business anymore especially because a pint of Ben & Jerry's is safer, more INCLUSIVE, and cheaper! There are plenty of senior citizens in this town, and I would hate to see them discriminated against simply in the name of "fairness." read more

Still delicious! my wife and I got two huge scoops on waffle conea on (Easter) Sunday. Definitely value for money. Death by chocolate, coffee oreo, mint choc chip and milky way were all tasty. big chunks in the mint choc chip. chocolate waffle cone and chocolate with springles were both thick, and withstood the melting. This is a great alternative to going to the Twist and Shake on revere beach. Same ice cream and same exceptional service, but without the chaos of Revere Beach itself. There are a ton of ice cream flavors and toppings. My all time favorite is Coconut ice cream with hot fudge. mmmm. OH MY GOSH THE SOFT SERVE! They have almost too many flavors to choose from. It is a cute little establishment that is conveniently located near beaches and deer island. I went here with my BU Ecology class as a post field trip snack and the staff was very inviting. They have a lot of things to choose from, many different toppings, and many different unique drinks. Very nice shop. They have a a pretty good selection of ice cream flavors, also a large number of choices of soft serve, but I usually kick the summer off with a lemon slush--and I haven't tried the ice cream/or soft serve yet. I've been there a couple of times and there are a large number of staffers working which is a good thing, since in the summer it gets busy. Rushes of people just line up in waves. Lots of spills with kids as large part of the clientele but the staff always is cheerful cleaning up right away. I think there is only one register which slows them down a bit. There are several tables and chairs if you want to eat in the air conditioning instead of venturing down the block to the beach. Located near intersections of two major streets, plus side street parking can be tough but municipal/town parking lot is located across the street. read more

I love this place! Cheryl is amazingly amazing. Warm, friendly, outgoing and she runs a tight ship. This is the CLEANEST and most organized ice cream shop I've ever seen. They have all the best stuff, Richardson's Ice Cream (cones, hand dipped waffle cones, shakes, cups), Slush...smooth yummy slush with all kinds of kid favorite flavas. Definitely the best ice cream place in and around Winthrop. They are very, very good with allergies and are always helpful to you if you explain you have one. The always open a new fresh uncontaminated tub of whatever you want when you have the allergy. I usually get cookie dough ice cream, hot fudge, and oreos. It is so filling, but in a good way! The portions are very, very generous. The staff there are always on point and kind and respectful. The place is also very well kept. It is a favorite of mine and my friends during the summer months. I'd recommend their cookie dough, cake batter, or ice cream soda. You can get a cup and a cone, which makes it even better. And if you feel like sampling some, go for it! You can just ask and they'll give you a little sample spoon and scoop a little scoop of whatever you want. read more

The hubs and I stopped in around 9:45pm on a Sunday night and the folks behind the counter still had smiles on their faces and looked genuinely happy to be there. Not only was she sweet enough to take time out of her day to address my concerns (in the most professional, polite way) she also offered to send me a gift card so that I can try Twist & Shake again. This place is wonderful...I love that they have so many amazing flavors and to be honest that is the worst thing about going there. I can never decide on just one thing! Their service is amazing, the girls are great! They are always very attentive and helpful. They let you try as many things as you want and always make great suggestions. My son is allergic to peanuts and treenuts. The staff was so accommodating. They explained their whole process to us and then he selected his ice cream flavor. They opened a new tub, got a clean scoop. They even opened a new sleeve of bowls and spoons. We've never had that before. He got a drip of my ice cream on him and they quickly got him a wet wipe and a fresh spoon. Servings were huge and they had fun flavors. Try Tornado. read more

Hands down one of the best ice cream places I have been in a long time. I don't know how I have lived in Winthrop so long and never been but I know for sure that I will be back. The service was super friendly and attentive. There were three young adults working when I visited with my husband the other night and they all worked so nicely together...very professional. The decor of the place is adorable. I was very impressed with all the little details including the pink and white themed balloons out front. Lastly but definitely not least, the ice cream was delicious and affordable! Very difficult to find that combination these days. It was soft serve without being too soft...perfect continuity throughout the entire cone! And the young lady making my cone gave me the perfect amount of sprinkles. My husband and I ate all we could and we didn't feel like we broke the bank for our frosty treats. Great job to the owner and the employees at this business. So I took the time to go here last week and drive from the north end...having to cross the tunnel (3 $ toll) drive all the way to winthrop to find this little pink shack. It was a kiddy friendly looking place. Pink everywhere. So I ordered a blueberry medium soft serve in a cone. 4$!...WTF...7 $ + gas for a freaking ice cream!? wtf?!?!?! I go to a place back home in East Longmeadow at a mini golf place called FENWAY GOLF that has the 24 flavor soft serve system...2 mediums in a cone( largest size they have- which is a very wealthy amount if i must say so myself) 4.90$!!! such a good price. Screw twist and shake's price! My ice cream was good because I like the soft serve with the mixed in syrup, however, he didn't blend it well in the blender machine. I could see swirls of the blueberry syrup where it didn't get mixed it, kind of made it a little gross to eat. I've had better and at a much nicer place. 7$ + gas for a measly icecream, sorry twist and shake- i won't be returning. read more
