Every visit feels special because I always find the most beautiful and unique gifts for my friends and family--things you just can't find anywhere else. What makes this shop even more wonderful are the owners. They are some of the friendliest, most thoughtful, and genuinely kind human beings you'll ever meet. Their warmth and love for what they do shines through in every corner of the shop and in every interaction. I am responding to Vicki W's post as I was the other patron in the store (now logged in under my husbands account) that she referenced. She has taken this completely out of context, the child who was likely 5 years old was completely unsupervised while I was in the store. I watched him tearing the packaging open for at least a minute and a half with no one nearby watching him. He destroyed a vey expensive toy that is now unable to be sold. We have been to this little store dozens of times over the years with our children and grandchild and the owners have always been gracious and caring to all of their customers especially children. I just love Twin Designs gift shop! Every time I go in there, I feel like I'm transported to a place of fun. it is wonderful to go in and see the fish and especially enjoyable to see Diane the Turtle, not to mention Harry and Grace. The store is filled with gifts for all occasions and many items bring back so many memories of days gone by. The best is to meet Jim and Brad. Nicer people would be hard to find. They treat everyone with respect and kindness and go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, whether they purchase something or are just there to visit. I have never in my life witnesses a store employee or owner in this case verbally abuse a person like I did today. A young mom with two very young active boys was shopping with her mother in law and the boys uncle when one of the young boys who couldn't have been more than three tore into a toy ripping the packaging. The mom immediately addressed the situation but not before another patron ran up to the owner and told them. The young mom explained that she was terribly sorry and would pay for the item. The owner began to abuse this poor girl verbally. He called her an unfit mother who has no control over her children and in all his years never had this happen! The girl again offered to pay and was told to leave the store immediately and never come back. He told her she should be ashamed of herself and to leave. His brother, the other owner now chimed in and also screamed at the girl. The girl was naturally on the verge of tears at this point. I spoke with her outside and learned that the child is on the spectrum and has sensory issues as well. Both the mom and the children were very upset at this point. These men screamed at this poor mother in front of the entire store including her children. These owners should be ashamed of their actions and she deserves an apology! The child was being watched by his uncle when he opened the package and her mother in law was also close by as was I when I watched this take place. The store is cluttered with toys and merchandise and within reach of a small child. I don't know about y'all but I raised four kids and this HAS happened under my supervision. Kids are quick, things happen, show some grace. The fact that she offered payment and the owners still verbally abused her was just appalling. These owners are authors of several books on being kind and unique yet this is how they treat a mom and an autistic child. So much for love, kindness and peace. I guess that's just for the books and to generate cash flow. I will NEVER step foot in this establishment again. I vacation here at Newfound Lake yearly and so have shopped here previously but after today they lost me as a customer forever. read more

What an absolutely fantastic store. Full of great finds, especially for big kids like myself. An amazing selection of note cards for those of us who still love the special touch. Lots of fabulous puzzles, toys, and hand printed items that will make any recipient extremely happy. I found the most adorable hot plate, with moose dressed as the bride, and groom, for a gift for my niece who eloped. I'll add it to her card. Then the insanely adorable, stuffed, hand puppets, every animal you can think of. A great selection of delicious chocolates, and I can keep going on. The owners hand print everything on-site. When you get to the register to checkout you're in for a treat. Ask to meet their beautiful kitty. Service is warm, friendly, and will make you wanting to go back soon. Oh there's also a mascot turtle, you'll need to ask them to explain the story behind him. This is an absolute must when you're in the area or out for a day trip. Five stars for a gift shop? Have I lost it? Maybe. But this is more than just a storefront in the square. The twin brothers who own and operate it are wonderful people, and I can't resist visiting every time I'm in town to see their two beautiful Persian cats. They also have somewhat of a famous turtle who has lived at the store for years, and folks are welcome to go out back to see her and have their photo taken. Diane (turtle) has been written about in books, magazines, and newspapers. My niece and nephews have her book and have taken pics with her a few times. If you haven't visited in a while, they have added another room by taking the vacant space next door. They almost needed this new room if they plan on keeping up the Diane-pics-on-the-wall tradition! One of the brothers is an artist, while the other writes. So they've written many children's books together, and collaborated on so many unique items. They're talented, yes. But they're also two of the warmest, welcoming people you will ever meet. And, if you have an affinity for Persian cats, they have a brother and sister pair who love coming out and saying hi. Harry doesn't like to be held so much, but Grace likes to be flipped upside down for belly rubs. They're too much, and I'm always threatening to steal them! You have to go here simply to meet Diane, the shop's mascot and owner's 47-year-old turtle who lives in the back. Her sanctuary is covered with pictures and drawings from her friends and visitors over the years, and in December, they hold an annual celebration for her birthday. The owners also have a series of self-published books about Diane you can buy in the shop. The other merchandise they carry is equally adorable. A lot of plush, toys, jewelry and t-shirts. This isn't the cheezy beach-side shop. It was tidy, and a clearly curated mix of merchandise that was still really reasonably priced. Things we would have easily paid $8-$10 for were marked as low as $3 and $4. It's just a solid gift shop where you can buy your souvenirs or the locals can pick up unique gifts for friends. read more

The brothers, Jim, and Brad, are some of the nicest people I've met. This shop is adorable, complete with books and various works of art made by the brothers plus everything is made in the U.S with a lot of the products being local. I don't get down to Bristol often but when I do, I always manage to stop here and find some goodies:-) Do not miss visiting Diane the Turtle and Harry and Grace, who are the probably some of the cutest kitties ever!! read more
