Driving along a main road in search of our breakfast stop, we passed by Claudette's, not realizing…read morethat it was in her home. My mom and I were up for the weekend and we were intrigued by some pictures found online, so we decided to add a stop to our agenda. When we arrived, there were a few cars there, so we parked near them and a door that we assumed was the entrance. When we entered we were overwhelmed by the amount of products, followed by the amount of space that was dedicated to crafting. I wouldn't think that so much stuff could fit so neatly into one person's home. The first few aisles are lined with charms for necklaces, bracelets and other needs for crafting projects. There were rows of beads, gems, and other fun goodies. I found a bunch of wreath making supplies, a room of flowers and a room of ribbon...and some Christmas items. The owner is a super nice person and I can only assume that she was "the" Claudette, since I never did ask her name. My mother and I were just so excited speaking with her and checking out the craft samples that she and her family had made. This place is for the true crafter. One who isn't afraid to spend their time looking through thousands of items just to find that perfect piece. Though I'm sure if you ask, you will be told right where you will find what you're looking for. I did not see any scrapbook or junk journal type materials. Because the business is in the lower portion of a home, I would assume it is due to climate control. Did I mention that the prices are quite reasonable? I left with a full bag of so many fun things that I just can't wait to dive into. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday, so be sure to plan accordingly. Mom and I are already planning our next trip.

This is a hard review to write. I had an unusual experience with the gallery that ended well, but…read morewas extremely frustrating along the way. It took two months for me to complete a purchase. Bottom line is they are a small business who curates some neat oddities from American craftsmen, but their service is lacking. My husband and I had received a gift around our wedding in the fall of 2011 that we returned to the studio. We lived in NYC at the time, and Yikes is located in New Hampshire. They credited us the value of the returned items via a mailed gift certificate. I attempted to use up the credit by shopping on their website, but it was impossible - none of the prices were listed, and very few of their inventory was listed on their website. No e-commerce capabilities. I called to see if I could shop by phone, and the store clerk insisted it was too difficult for her to describe what inventory they offered, so I should really make a trip to NH to stop into the gallery myself. It was not possible for us to travel there just to use up a gift certificate, so I waited. A year went by and we moved to Chicago. With the 2012 holidays approaching, I decided to try once more to use up that gift certificate in November. Their website & inventory had not changed from 1yr ago, so I called again on 11/15/12, and again they told me to travel to NH. That day I exchanged emailed with the owner and explained that I would like to use the credit and could they please describe some inventory I could possibly buy. Later in the following weeks I pursued them again, calling to speak to a store clerk who named a few craft brands they carried, so that I could go onto the websites of those brands and pick through their inventory. I found New England Bowl & Board, and on 12/12/12 I put together an email to the Yikes gallery owner with 7 items I liked from the NE B&B site. I hoped they would respond and send me "options" that added up to my credit, and finish the transaction. I did not hear back. I tried again. In late Dec I was informed by email that they were busy with the holidays and would get back to me. I called after the holidays. On 1/8/13 I received a response email and made the selection. I sent them an email with the gift certificate image, and it bounced back to me because their inbox was full. I called. Finally I received the items around 1/14/13, two months after I started the process (for the second time). Conclusion: 1) This was incredibly frustrating how difficult it was to purchase something at their store. "You should really come to New Hampshire yourself" is not acceptable for someone living elsewhere. 2) The holidays should not cause a two-month delay in completing a customer's request. I am afraid with this type of customer service they will suffer as a business, no matter how unique their wares.
