As the Dutch say: Heerlijk! Dinner here was truly phenomenal!…read more The concept for all the restaurants in the Humphrey's chain is simple: three courses for 24,95. Keeping this in mind Humphrey's has created a nicely varied menu with eight options per course. All of them delicious ideas, which is not usually the case when looking for vegetarian options; I'm quite the picky eater sometimes. What's fantastic about this set-up is that the dishes on the menu are simple to assemble, but super yummy. And because you chose your entire menu before hand and the dishes do not require a lot of time to put together thanks to smart mise-en-place, you do not have to wait very long for your food! Anyway, we first came here after having climbed around all day for our six and a half year anniversary. We decided we would just drive in to Apeldoorn and have a look if there was somewhere we'd want to eat. The first restaurant we saw was Spicebrush with an okay menu, but not fantastic. The second place was Bogart's. Saw the menu and we were sold! First of all, I have to say that I LOVE how the first thing the servers do after you choose a table is bring you a breadboard with half a delicious loaf of bread, herbed butter and an adorable bottle of super yummy olive oil. All restaurants should do this. All. Of. Them. The bread is just enough to keep you going until your first course is brought to the table, very smart; no hungry, panic-y, grumpy customers, all because of some bread. So smart! Then our first course rolled in, le boyfriend had carpaccio and I had caprese salad. Let me be clear here, I think balsamic vinegar is disgusting and do not understand it's existence. Now I do. It was a lovely surprise finding some rocket (arugula) dressed in balsamic vinegar hiding under my tomatoes and mozzarella. Then our mains, le boyfriend had a mixed grill and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat he got. Also, he loves his steak super rare and had asked for it to be served as rare as humanly possible without having uncooked meat. The chef nailed it. The steak was rare and the pork and chicken were juicy. I had the cannelloni and loved every bite of it. The sides are also nice. The usual suspects: side salad, chips (with a lovely herb sprinkle) and a nice twist on the apple compote; apple-rhubarb compote. If you think that rhubarb is not for you, try this anyway, it was really good. As we were enjoying our dinner I had mentioned to le boyfriend that if they could pull off his chocolate fondant, they would have a five star rating in the pocket. Guess how the chocolate fondant was...

I could move the mass in the plate without changing the shape of it. Had to eat with fork and knife, as no spoon was provided. Tasted blend. Never again. Terrace is in a good, sunny spot.

This place is called "American" to the locals. It's very much a grill food of all kinda of food…read more SpiceBrush is a beautiful restaurant located off the side of Apeldoorn's City Hall Building. I was told the restaurant had changed their concept from before. The interior of the restaurant is decorated quite nicely. When we came in, we were immediately welcome by a friendly staff member and seated. The menu is set up quite interestingly, every single item on the is labeled "Tasting of" such as Beef, Deer, or etc. Luckily there's also an English version of the menu which I gladly was able to get. A friend and I both went for the Shellfish Tasting. For the appetizers, they given us a lobster savory soup. The soup was quite nice, but I thought it was a bit too over seasoned. The main dish had a tasting of Lobster, Prawns, and Scallops. The presentation of the dish wasn't much at all. The plate is divided into three each for the individual shellfish presented and also a optional wine pairing which I opt-in for. I was really hoping that I didn't need to work on my food while socializing. But turns out that the lobster required the most work. We took some of our digging through the lobster. It is however really nice, it's a flavored quite gently and sided with a risotto. The scallops were nicely cooked sided with a cranberry sauce. The prawns on the plates were good but not memorable. Depending on whatever you order, you would get a tasting of three on a dish. This also includes the desert dishes which I would discuss later. Desert is quite good. I got the carmel tasting while my friend had the chocolate tasting. Presentation is actually very nice on this both of our dishes. The dishes came in very large plates and also divided into three different deserts. My carmel tasting came was very strong and sweet, I favored the ice cream the most on the dish. While my friend's Chocolate tasting dish is probably the best, a delicious fresh brownie nice crunchy on the outside and soft and rich on the inside. The ice cream was also good with a coconut component to it. The whole night is quite fun with clumsiness, with dropped food and even getting stuff into the water (our own fault). But I did enjoy my time regardless, because of that I was bordering my overall thoughts were the food was 3 stars, and the desert needs 4 stars. And just the fun of being there I think deserves another half star so I'm settling SpiceBrush with the 4 stars. ------ + Pro: Friendly service, and interesting concept. - Con: May be a challenge getting attention from staff depending on where you are sitting. ( ^_^) Overall: A very nice restaurant to enjoy some grilled foods. PS. Sorry no pictures for this review!
