On one of our car rides through the beautiful Twente landscape, we drove by this restaurant and decided to have dinner here. It was still a bit early, so we first had some drinks on the nice patio, overlooking the main street. Our drinks were served fast, and were accompanied by a little basket with warm breads and a yummy spread.
While enjoying our drinks, we took a look a the menu. Most of their dishes have very funny names based on Dutch proverbs and expressions. It is hard to translate them into English!
It suddenly started to rain, and we were promptly brought to our table inside. The restaurant looked very cozy, with wooden tables and comfortable chairs.
We ordered several starters, such as tomato soup and salads, and they were all great. My main dish, "Een vreemde eend in de bijt" was duck breast with a great sauce. The duck was excellent, moist and still a bit red inside. A perfect dish. Several other people in our group complimented the "Oale Boer'n Hap", a schnitzel with bacon, onions, and mushrooms.
I forgot what other entrees we had but all dishes were great, and everybody was full of compliments. Service was excellent and pretty fast.
As a dessert, I ordered the "Coupe De Kruidentuin", which was served in a gigantic big glass bowl. It was hilarious and delicious at the same time. Whoever orders this dish will sure get a lot of attraction!
Overall, a great place for dinner, either with two or with a group. read more
