I worked for this business as a contractor and feel it is important to share my experience for anyone considering working here or supporting this business.
During my time here I witnessed and experienced repeated racist comments from the owner. This included explicit derogatory remarks toward Hispanic employees, broad generalizations about Hispanic people, and racist remarks made about Black customers. As a young Black woman, working in an environment where racism was expressed so casually and freely was not only uncomfortable -- it was telling.
Racism in the workplace is a moral failure. It affects the mental health, confidence, and livelihood of employees who show up every day in spaces that were never designed to make them feel safe or valued.
Small businesses are a cornerstone of the American economy, employing nearly half of the private sector workforce and shaping the culture of the communities they operate in. That influence carries responsibility.
When small business owners normalize racism and discriminatory behavior, the harm extends far beyond the walls of one showroom -- it contributes to a broader culture of exclusion that affects who feels welcome, who gets hired, who gets treated with dignity, and ultimately who gets to thrive economically.
Small businesses are not exempt from accountability simply because of their size. If anything, the intimate nature of a small workplace makes the impact of toxic leadership more immediate and more personal. Everyone deserves a workplace built on basic respect and human decency.
