Was here for a 2 day event at the TWA Hotel and, while not staying over, enjoyed the beautiful mid-century design by the Finnish architect Eero Saarinen maintained throughout, but also the history of TWA, the nod to 1962 history* and culture, and just plain fun instilled through signage, music and retro installations. The TWA Hotel has many touchpoints, it's not just a great place for people traveling in or out of JFK, others attending an event, but also perfect for New Yorkers to come on over to enjoy an escape by the throwback moment! Highly recommend exploring beyond the TWA Hotel's lobby! Whether it's the TWA uniform museum, walls of info about TWA, the period cars and filled luggage carts, the Lockheed Constellation L-1649 Strainer (aka "Connie") Cocktail Lounge**, the Twister room or Hair Salon. Everywhere there's a lot to put a smile on your face! Worth the trip! * Don't forget, the year the building opened as the TWA Terminal, the amazing Mets were founded, John Glenn became the first American to orbit the earth, and 007 James Bond's first film appearance in Dr. No. (Btw, the New York Jets, apparently named after the Jet Age, also played their first game in '62 ... but to be honest, why don't both them and the Giants should really be respectively the New Jersey Jets and New Jersey Giants since they actually play in East Rutherford, NJ.) ** Worth climbing in. They need some vintage airport fire trucks as part of the antique decor of the TWA Hotel, in the historic TWA airline building at JFK, in front of JetBlue. This place has crashed and burned. Only seven years old, the main building and the newer hotel wings make sleazy hotels outside of Vegas look like 5-star Strip hotels. Run down. Dirty. More leaks than the White House. Gone are the more elegant bars. One, with bottom shelf liquor and a "captain" bartender who makes an old fashioned so bad that it was probably found packed away in one of the old suitcases on display. To get to the rooms, you have to go up one of the breezeways. Figuring out how to get to those is not very clear. They are a long walk from the front desk, uphill. The front desk staff, which just graduated from a Red Roof Inn somewhere, give you no real great context clues as to how to get into them and whether your room are up or down from the fourth floor, which is apparently the landing floor. The physical maintenance of this place is a disaster. Most of the elevators have one of the tap terminals required to activate the elevator broken. It's frustrating when it's not marked. People get stuck in the elevator and get aggravated frequently. They have to walk all the way back to the front desk, which is a healthy walk, because they think that their tap card isn't working when it's actually the terminal that's the problem. The door to the entry to the third floor hallway 320-330s is also broken. The tap doesn't work Not marked either. My door you had to pull on hard to close. Paint is peeling off the ceiling in the opulent staircase. They can't even turn the lights on up at the top of the staircase. It's dark at night when the glass windows no longer provided any light. Making it quite dangerous for elderly people. If you go up to the pool in this place that already is setting you back at least $300 or $400 a night, to be told that you have to spend an additional $19 to use the pool or to eat simply at the pool bar area? Maybe that's is why there's only four people up there. What a ridiculously stupid thing to do. Towels are stiff and worn so then you can see through them in places if you hold them up to the light which I didn't need to do because the light coming through gave me that context clues That money certainly isn't going back into the physical plant. They have one restaurant, such as it is. The food was terrible. My salmon bowl with brown rice and some wonton crisps came out. The wonton crisps were not crisp. They were limp. The rice was end of day hard. Some spinach have been thrown on top of the greens very carelessly like a third grader paints a portrait of dish of food. Downstairs there is a "food court" which is basically one company running a bunch of food kiosks over at the same type of counter that they have for check-in but on the other side of the building. The food looked a tiny bit better over there. To prevent from bankrupting these places, this is probably why they don't allow you to bring in anything because Uber Eats and Grubhub. The room looks good as long as you're looking up, but the carpet is ancient and tired in the one spot that they have it. There's a lot of damage to surfaces around their end. There was the lovely flea that I found hopping around on the bathroom counter. It photographs much better than it is. It's a shame. It could have so much promise if somebody actually put money into maintaining the physical plant, improve the staff, food, and overall experience, The managers are well aware of it. It really comes down to where the owner is actually want to put some money back into keeping this place operating. Honestly? I would avoid this place. Staying off airport at a hotel nearby is going to still be a much better experience overall. It is very clear since I was there seven years ago that the people running things have given up and are slowly just grinding this place into the ground. read more

Wow super cool retro hotel in great location right next to John F Kennedy (JFK) airport in New York! It was so fun to see all of the 60s decorations! We found out at 11:30 PM that our flight was delayed until the next day so stayed at this hotel for a night and really enjoyed the decorations and ambiance! On the downside, walls are paper thin - noisy kids next door woke us up real early and continued to make a lot of noise. And we had the a/c on but still was unusually warm. I am so in love with this hotel. Every single time we fly in and out of JFK we spend our layover time here. Whether hanging out in the central lobby, grabbing a bite, hitting up the gift shop, or a cocktail on the plane. We've also spent time at the rooftop pool and bar and love exploring and looking at the displays of uniforms and other iconic pieces from years gone by. My most favorite thing to do is to get a room to relax. You're able to get a room for blocks of time which is a wonderful way to relax, clean up, and nap if you have a long layover. Most especially for international travel. The architecture and design are reminiscent of TWA in its heyday. Iconic furnishings and colors. Always something new and fun to check out in the TWA hotel wing. read more

I did not stay overnight at this hotel, so this review is for the rest of the hotel itself. Easily spent 2 hours here looking around and exploring the space - from the airplane bar, to the themed rooms like the twister room and the hair salon, the multitudes of space to lounge and sit in, to the free Photo Booth. We ended up in the food hall to eat. I had an açaí bowl, it was smaller than I expected, but still ok. It was a little cold, like straight from the freezer. The whole hotel theme is very retro. The TWA Hotel right in JFK airport is a fun spot to spend the night. It's totally retro and very well done. You quickly reach it in terminal 5, where we happened to fly in to. We were there during a cold snap (17 degrees!) and the main area of the hotel was very cold. The room was small but comfortable and everything was in good working order. I really don't recommend spending more than one night there as it's really isolated from anything other than the airport and you can experience it all in a couple hours. PS. Do NOT sleep on this place.... TWA Hotel is a blast into the past in all the fun ways. I felt like I was in the Jetsons . This place is huge, it a bit far from the mail airport so we took an uber when we landed and then Blade service picked us up the next morning for our flight to Montauk. We had lunch as the food court and dinner at their restaurant, it was good. I even bought some things at their gift store. The room was really nice & clean, bed was comfy and although I was next to construction and cars zipping by I couldn't hear them. I would stay here again. read more

Ok first off this is definitely worth coming to see notice I said see not stay You get there through terminal 5 which is JetBlue. You get out of the elevator and there is Howard Jones's office replica then you walk down a big lighted hallway and come to its vintageNess They have a full vintage beauty parlor that you can sit in. They have a twister room. It's all very cute and worth coming to see. But at $700 a night they've got to be kidding. My flight was canceled. I went to see what it would cost to stay for the evening and a not too friendly guy said $700 and I said no but I did sit in the lobby and it did look like it was 1967 and it's worth going to see but not to stay. read more

Like stepping back in time! I was able to explore and eat at the TWA Hotel while waiting for a layover. The style, the service and the museum-esque areas were all amazing. If you are into the retro airline vibe, the TWA hotel is the place for you. This place is (fairly literally) straight out of the 1970's "Idlewild" airport timeframe, complete with a retro plane, departure lounge, anda couple different retro bars. They also sort of function as a museum, and you can see a lot of very cool stuff wandering around here. The rooms are small but adequate; the bathrooms are definitely a good size. In addition to the old time airport vibes, this hotel has an amazing rooftop pool with great views of airplanes, as well as one of the best hotel gyms I've ever been to (including a squat rack and peloton bikes). An unforgettable experience that you will only get here I don't understand why the reviews are low but I would keep in mind that for a place in front of an airport people are understandably stressed out. I give this place 5 stars because to handle stressed costumers who are dealing with flights being canceled and all sorts of issues the staff does a good job keeping their cool. They do such a good job making sure the aesthetics of this place of held to a high standard and as a native NYer I love and respect that. TWA hotel is not your traditional hotel stay that you will book while your flight is delayed or cancelled. To be honest, i viewed it as a novelty hotel or a staycation experience. The price is incredibly steep for 1 night stay, there is not any storage space for your clothes, and it's only connected to 1 (international) terminal. Despite all of this, I think its a great option for a stay cation, a place to check out while your flight is delayed ( but dont stay) and grab a day pass for the pool. if you choose to do valet, i think its about $60 per night. We grabbed a 1 night stay in the king room facing the runway and we loved it. the bed was incredibly comfortable. there was a samsung smart tv in the room. the temp was great. we saw plenty of planes take off and leave the runway (at night is the best). the room was modern, but had touches from the 60s spread throughout. the towels were Xl, finally a hotel that gets it! modern stand up shower. a small bar (nothing was inside of it, stock it yourself). 3 or 4 hangers. 2 big mirrors. 1 small chair and a phone to the front desk. easy to find the room, plenty of tamps to carry the cart upstairs, and you need a room key to access the floors and the rooftop. we came during winter so we had access to the heated pool. unfortunately the bar was closed, but the manager anna allowed us to order drinks with her. she was so gracious enough to head downstairs and grab our drinks. we paid via the hand held. there is a small indoor area with a bar and tables, along with about 5 bathrooms. The pool itself is rectangle and very warm. it's not big, but the views are outstanding. theres plenty of lounge chairs and areas to walk around to check out the views. We were also given robes to keep ourselves warm, along with plenty of pool towels. to kill time, theres 2 other bars in the lounge. signature drinks are $19. the food cafe downstairs doesnt have the best food at all. but its basically airport food. we grabbed a caprese panini for a snack and it was about $16 and not great. but it served its purpose. theres plenty of things to check out while in the hotel including plenty of photo opps by the bar, a fake hair salon, a twister room, onclaves with facts and old TQA artifacts. The Connie airline outside has a full bar inside and about 16 seats to chill in. we had dinner reservations at the paris cafe for a sunday night around 8 pm and we loved he the food and experience. service was good, they even took us 30 mins early. in january on a sunday, the lounge and restaurant was packed. the check in process was incredibly easy. the hotel and establishment was very clean. friendly staff. for me, this is a 1 and done for my birthday, and i loved the whole trip. its not cheap, so save your pennies. i think it was worth it and would suggest coming here for an anniversary or birthday. during peak seasons the rooftop pool has day passes, which would be cool also. read more

Staycation!!! We came here to decompress for the day, take advantage of the rooftop pool area, have dinner and check out the views from our room. We went with the room that offers a view of the runway. The room was awesome! Soundproof windows is an understatement. We literally didn't hear any of the outside noise. I wish we enjoyed the rooftop pool as much as our room. Due to some mechanical issues the pool was shut down within 45mins of us arriving. As you can see by the color of the water in my pool pictures it needed cleaning. The water was green. It was a hot summer day and the pool was one of the main amenities that drew us in. We did indulge at the pool bar while enjoying the views and watching airplanes take off and land. The bartender also made great drinks! Staying at the TWA hotel the night before our Delta flight was just brilliant. You are just so relaxed and don't have a care in the world rushing to get to the airport to catch your flight... you just walk over. Hotel is so much fun, a Game of Twister room, shops, restaurants, and oh those amazing views of the runways. Watching the planes landing and taking off right in front of you is so cool. Beds are very comfortable, fantastic service, very chic and 1960's stylish...even to the music being played throughout. They have a free Photo Booth that takes those stripped panel photos. So much fun. Don't forget the impressive rooftop pool and bar... it has a European Chalet vibe. Pool is heated and you can swim even in the winter if you're adventurous. They offer self check-in and checkout very convenient, basically flawless. It's like stepping back in time with all the memorabilia... highly recommend and I believe the long walkway where Hanks catches up with DiCaprio in Catch me if you can was filmed in one of these walkways. Okay so lets just start off with the rating. I arrived after midnight and was gone by 9 am so had bare interaction with the staff and so this rating is strictly for the room and the Mid Century Modern spectacle that is this hotel. It was an odd thing. I was flying in and had to grab a rental truck in Queens. I normally would have stayed in LIC but the rates were 600 for the night. The TWA hotel was half that. I will not go into the history of this iconic building but for architecture buffs or those who love Mid Century Modern or yes AvGeeks like myself its a fantastic stay. If you are flying Jet Blue it is super easy you take the loooooong hallway from the terminal to the hotel. It take s bit of walking to get to the lobby. It was after midnight, but the staff was friendly and efficient. The room was on the small side but clean and nicely appointed with lots of 50's touches evident. The common areas of the hotel were simply fantastic and I could have easily spent hours walking around. The outdoor pool deck and bar was glorious. The plane spotting you could do there would be off the hook. The only major downside is that no transit options can be taken from the front of the hotel you have to go back into the terminal and access them there. read more

The TWA Hotel is an experience. The hotel itself is designed to feel like a late 1950s airport. They have the old departure and arrivaboards to the curved architecture and retro details, it genuinely feels like stepping back in time. One of the highlights is the original TWA plane parked outside, which has been converted into Connie's Lounge. It's a very cool bar setup with airport style seating and a fun, nostalgic vibe. Even if you're not eating, it's worth grabbing a drink just to check it out. At Paris Café, we ordered the Campanelle with caramelized brussels sprouts and basil pistachio pesto. The idea was solid and the pistachios added nice texture, but the dish needed more acidity and salt. It came off a bit bland overall. The Rigatoni with Meatballs was better. The smoked chili tomato ragu was flavorful and well seasoned, though the meatballs themselves were slightly mushy in texture. Service at Paris Café was pretty slow, which was noticeable, especially given the price point. Ambience, however, was excellent and definitely the star of the show. Parking is valet only and it's expensive, but Paris Café does offer validation for two hours, which brought it down to about $20 or so. Still not cheap, but expected for the location. Overall, the food was hit or miss, but the atmosphere, history, and design of the TWA Hotel make this a really fun and unique experience. Come for the nostalgia, grab a drink at Connie's Lounge, and manage expectations on service timing. read more

Forced to say here one night after our Jet Blue flight got cancelled. This hotel is built around the original TWA terminal. The terminal is now a 2 story hotel lobby with restaurants and bars. The hotel consists of 2 towers built on either side of the terminal. There is a roof top pool on one tower overlooking the airport runway. You can book a short stay or an overnight. This is a very interesting concept, but it is a "One and done". Very expensive and everything has a separate charge. For example, you not only have to pay for using the pool, you need to make a reservation for a time slot. The best thing about the hotel is that you can walk right into the hobby via a tunnel attached to the Jetblue terminal. If you are flying any other airline you can take the train that runs between all terminals. If I needed an over night room at JFK, I would stay here once. read more

This is a remarkable place... loved hanging out there and taking it all in... had some drinks with my family members who stayed overnight in the hotel... having seen the reviews on TA, I decided to stay at another hotel, which I loved. They weren't impressed with the place as a hotel... room wasn't impressive, service lacking, very expensive. As someone who grew up in NY, I remember Terminal 5 and its iconic design... I love that they took the time, effort and money to preserve the TWA Terminal. They have some sections dedicated as a museum, a tribute to TWA's past... all the different uniforms of the flight attendants over the years, etc. Loved seeing the old Information Board listing all the flight departures... the old plane... and all the other memorabilia they preserved. Not easy to get around JFK, especially with all the construction, but if you have the time, worth checking this place out... there's a self-service type restaurant in the lobby where you can get coffee and items to eat... as well as a sit-down restaurant. I did not stay overnight here, but I want to! I honestly had a traveler's worth nightmare today. It's 2:30am and I should be landing in London but a weather delay in Charlotte caused a cascade of unfortunate and frustrating events, including missing not one, but 2 international flights. So alas, we found ourselves traveling the JFK Terminals, distressed, frustrated, defeated. In an attempt to rebook a flight for tomorrow we found ourselves looking for the JetBlue help desk. Just after 1am we found it.. but with them not opening until 2:30a, my Mom suggested we go get a room, or at least sit in the lobby of the TWA hotel while we wait. Best. Decision. Ever. Seriously. It was a walk back into the 1960s. The decor was not only era appropriate, but included lots of history blurbs and opportunities to interact. We literally sat at the Howard Hughes Executive Desk for about 30 mins while we sorted out flight things with JetBlue. After getting that sorted we said, F-it, let's get a room, even for only 4 hours we can sleep and shower. Well, flash forward, they were sold out (and pricey averaging $500-700+, depending on the night and demand). But, this place is loaded with things to see and do, even as a weary traveler at 2am. The guest services people invited us to rest wherever we were comfortable until our flight, even though we weren't guests! That was cool. He even offered suggestions on more private locations since we had luggage. Mom was exhausted, so she took a load off as I walked around. There's a literal Twister board game room, a free Photo Booth, vintage cars, flight board that changes every 10 mins, and a plane in the garden that I think is also a bar! I've been to NYC many times but would never have know this little gemstone exists. Now that I do I absolutely plan on booking an intentional stay -- maybe even when we get back from Europe if we can get a decent price and a refund on our other booked hotel. Go visit the TWA. It was a bright and welcome find at the end of an otherwise pretty terrible day. read more

First, I want to say that I love this hotel. The theming is incredible and engaging. As much as I like the aesthetic, I struggled to determine how many stars I would give. I loved my stay and the service was generally good but the food and drinks left a lot to be desired. I don't think I got anything that blew me away. It was also pretty pricey for the quality of the products. The room was nice but the bed wasn't the most comfortable and I was unable to open the refrigerator. I definitely recommend a visit to experience a piece of aviation history but manage your expectations where "extras" are concerned. read more

Checked in around noon to spend the night before heading home from a trip to Brooklyn. The architectural brilliance of the main area cannot be over emphasized or overstated. This mid-century modern gem has been better described by true architectural connoisseurs, so I will defer to them. Stay here to soak it in. - We found the room to be reasonably sized. We loved the long work area behind the head of the bed, and were smitten by the expensive floor to ceiling windows with a view of the runway and terminal four. - Visit to the Lockheed Constellation was cute; exterior much more impressive than the interior. - The rooftop pool is a treat and should not be missed. - The physical plant for the rooftop bar adjacent to the pool is an interesting design choice; I get the impression this was thrown up as something of an afterthought given the plastic and fabric walls and half hearted effort at an apres-ski theme. Drinks were fine, but I think could be better in a hotel of this type. - The Paris restaurant (reviewed separately) is shockingly pricey for what it delivers. Overall, poor culinary effort in the middle of stunning physical plant. - Shower spacious, but interestingly simply has a glass half panel without a door dividing it from the rest of the bathroom. - Weird electrical issues in our room. Breaker Or GFI in the bathroom that controlled the lighting died mid shower. Never could get the mirror lights to reset, but after a time the lower level lighting turned itself back on. Similarly, the hotel-provided hairdryer tripped breakers out in the room itself. read more

This hotel is as if you transported back in time! What a cool experience and hotel. Not just a hotel but a piece of history. They had so many different areas to explore including museum exhibits. One area was filled with antique vehicles that you can sit and take pictures in. A second area had TWA flight attendant outfits from throughout the years. A third area had TWA photos and art. A fourth area had a living room setting filled with vintage furniture and collectibles. The sunken lounge in the main area has that old style plane departure and arrival board. We found a large Twister themed room. I really loved the photo booth that is free to take photos. Gives you a cute little momento. You cannot miss the little plane bar that is right outside the hotel which you can see from the sunken lounge. Access to the hotel is truly convenient and easy. Tons of signage for you to find your way there. It is also easy for ubers to find. The cafe on the upper level is cute but the food is not memorable. My wife and I were in town and spent two nights at the TWA hotel at JFK airport this past weekend and overall it was an ok experience. I know there have been reviews all over the place for this hotel here on Yelp and other online sites. We chose this hotel for a couple of reasons. One, the wedding and reception we were here for was nearby. The hotel options in the area are not great in my opinion. The convenience aspect factored in on that. Secondly, the TWA terminal is iconic for its design and is on the register of historic places. It was landmarked by NYC in the 90s. Also, the first time I flew on a plane was on TWA in the mid 70's and I remember going to this terminal when I was a kid. So there was some nostalgia in it for me to stay here. The Good. The hotel was relatively clean and the staff were good. The roof top pool overlooking the Jet Blue terminal and runway was in my opinion the best feature here. It's free from 7am to 10:45am. After that you pay extra. See the not so good below on that. The bar and food amenities are ok but pricey!! There is a non operational 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane known as "Connie" behind the terminal that is a cocktail lounge. Pretty neat. The terminal was restored nicely and has that 1960s vibe to it with the decor, photographs etc. Classic music from the 50s, 60s and 70s plays from the speaker system throughout the terminal and hotel. There is a gym in the basement and it's huge by hotel standards. They had every piece of equipment you would hope for and also had a dozen treadmills and Peloton bikes. It was clean, well lit and had a big locker room. The room windows are sound proofed so you don't hear the airport or the planes taking off at all. The not so good. The parking is expensive and you can only valet. It runs $80 per day plus all the other BS fees and taxes. On the fine print it says you will be charged extra for oversized vehicles, aka large pickup trucks and SUVs. The valet app for ordering your car in advance either didn't work or, the car was never retrieved. The pool is free until 10:45 then it's $25 per person per hour and a half. I think that's just unnecessary and if you're staying here more than one day it maybe should be complementary. The rooms are small! And there are no closets. There are hooks on the wall near the mini bar (which was empty) to hang clothes on. Again, prices for food and drinks will cost you a pretty penny. It's NYC so I get it while others will not. The terminal is accessed via tram and the Jet Blue terminal. You don't need a reservation to just hang out there. We got back from a wedding very late and there were plenty of travelers sleeping on the benches and at the tables. I guess it's better than staying elsewhere. Another reviewer said it resembled a homeless shelter. I would agree with that. And I'll mention that security seemed non existent here. The area and roads in and out are a disaster. The whole roadway network at JFK is undergoing an extensive renovation and it's not pretty at all. You can easily miss where to go to get here and then you'll have to loop all the way around again. To add some more perspective, this is not a luxury hotel. It's geared for the traveler who may have a long layover or one who is coming in for a day and staying one night to catch an international flight and who may want to break the trip up a bit. I saw several flight crews staying here so I'm assuming the hotel has a contract with some of the airlines for that purpose. It's a one and done for us but I'm glad we stayed here. I had fun and it brought back some memories. I spent about four hours on the pool deck on a beautiful Saturday morning and it was great. Most of the issues I brought up are mostly trivial. And, the access in and out will be much better soon so the Port Authority that runs the airport claims. Oh, I figured out that the music is on a loop with about fifty songs that repeat over and over again. The quick stop food court is trying to be good, there's potential. The prices are robbery for what is in essence going to the fridge at your friends house and tossing something in the microwave. The panini barely qualifies as having meat in it as advertised. 2 maybe 3 slices of salami on an$18 sandwich. Oh please, it won't hurt to actually put cold cuts in a panini sandwich. I really want to be able to upgrade this review and some day I hope to. I loved TWA and loved the old TWA Flight Center. My grandfather also flew for TWA at one point. This review is in regards to one particular stay that I will never forget. I paid $700 for one night (runway view, which is usually about $400) and got screwed over. The receptionist had the audacity to tell me that most of the hotel was open. He doesn't understand that some of us are aviation buffs. The sunken bar area, Paris Cafe and the exhibits are pretty much the entire terminal and its interior architecture. The majority of the hotel was taken over by douchey Robinhood, a low tier tech company with a massive ego and attitude. A lot of the TWA branding was removed and replaced with Robinhood branding. From the check-in counters, to the decals on the floors. Everything. Robinhood security controlled the entire hotel. It pisses me off that TWA Hotel management was completely submissive to Robinhood and didn't give a flying you know what about their guests. There was nowhere to eat except for the food court, which was open 24 hours, but it wasn't a meal. Everything was closed: - the sunken bar - Paris Cafe - the exhibits on the second floor - the TWA Store - the Connie - the public restrooms (I believe this is illegal) Outside of the Robinhood pr*cks, the staff was surly, just like they were the one time I flew through T5 in 1999, so that part was preserved. Though, a couple of employees hinted to me that they were not happy with the takeover situation and that may have contributed. The runway view was phenomenal, and so was the pool, but not much else: - one tiny trash can - you're expected to leave your trash on the counter (gross!) - AC can't keep up - No soap. - The shampoo, body wash were nearly empty. - The same housekeeping carts were in the hall the entire 24 hours we were there. - Felt worn down and dated (and no, I don't mean 1960s, just not well kept). This hotel, particularly the head house, needs a lot of work and just lacks character compared to when I first saw it in 2019. - If nothing changes, TWA Hotel is not going to last and I suppose it will just become a museum. There were several rooms labeled "Supper Club" and "Reading Room" (with a cool diorama) that were completely covered in trash and AV equipment (probably for douchey Robinhood). It just looked ghetto. There is just no pride in this place. I finally got into it with one of Robinhood's douchey security guards and refused to leave a particular area citing the amount I paid. They have no authority in the hotel and I had already checked out so they couldn't do diddly squat. I paid $700 per night for nothing except for the runway view. I could have paid $400 per night for the runway view, and everything open. Unbelievably bad stay. Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if I get it in writing that nobody will be buying the place out. read more

This hotel is so cool with so much to see!Especially if you've first hand experienced life in the 1960s, they had a 1960s living room exhibition, outfits from the stewardesses, and much more. It was fascinating to see how people lived and dressed back then, as well as the cost of living comparison. We also paid a visit to the small airplane / bar that was right outside. Just being able to look into the planes cockpit was very cool, and there is a small bar with drinks and snacks. We had also dined at the restaurant in which the food was very good . The crispy salmon was amazing, as was the salmon dish!!! As for the hotel rooms, we were located on the fourth floor, and the bed was very comfortable. It's a perfect place to stay if you have an early flight the next morning! One of the only surprises we had was the cost of valet parking. It is $80 for the night, but I believe there's a cheaper parking options nearby. You may just need to walk a little further. read more

This is a typical tourist trap. The hotel and room was dirty and the staff was unresponsive. The food is "fast food" limited options and bad over priced. $63 for a wap with fries and chicken straps and fries with 3 drinks. The motif is not impressive and the rooms are not very functional with no shower door. read more

If you love architecture and interior design from the mid-century modern era, you're in for a treat when you stay at the TWA Hotel. I remember walking through the terminal with my parents when we flew in and out of JFK and later when I traveled overseas for a summer internship. The space was grand, inviting, and hip. The air was different there. Pure, majestic. Millions of people walked through Eero Saarinen's iconic TWA Terminal during its almost 40-year existence, beginning in 1962. By 2001, TWA had relocated to a larger, up-to-date terminal, leaving this rare gem largely abandoned until 2017, when developers decided to transform it into a hotel and conference center. MCR and MORSE Development (developers) kept the entire aesthetic intact. They brought back the split-flap display Solari times tables boards. The hotel is as beautiful as the former terminal. Famous pieces from that era give the guestrooms character. They are comfy with a mod Mad-Men vibe. Check out Paris Cafe. I enjoyed their salads and breakfasts. The last time I stayed was right before the Pandemic when the hotel was still new. The Food Hall was mostly empty, so I can't tell you about any mini cafes in the Food Hall. Looks like it's hoppin' now. Since the TWA Hotel is right on the airport grounds, it's far more convenient than any other lodging nearby. You basically roll out of bed and into the airport--well, actually, their elevated enclosed walkway, leading you towards check-in. Although staying here is relatively expensive, the overall experience and convenience make it worth it. read more

The good: * Clean, compact room a quick one-stop shuttle ride from anywhere at JFK to Terminal 5. * Wide open space with 24 hour cafe and plenty of electric outlets if you're stuck waiting on a long flight delay at JFK * Cool retro vibe, a modern throwback to the 1960s jetset era with a gift shop selling fun memorabilia. * Valet parking * Huge open space with a restored jet that doubles as a small bar The not good: * The room is really meant for a one night layover. Even the deluxe king room was so small the length of the bed had to be pushed against the side of the wall and you need to roll over the bed to get to the bathroom * Parking is $80. Not unexpected, this is New York. But even if you click the app to request the car (the message says it'll take 45-60 minutes) the valet guys won't do anything until you're standing in front of them. So pre-requesting the car is a waste of time, much like wasting time waiting for it to arrive. * Parking must be done by reservation, separate from the hotel room. I've never heard of this before and not sure about the reason but it turned into a hassle. * The menu items at the 24 hour cafe are more reminiscent of a 1970s hockey rink than a modern restaurant. Chili dogs, pizza, some wilted salads and tired, packaged, preservative-sandwiches. And the cafe is actually two cafes so you must wait on two lines to order food and a drink. * Threadbare towels, and not enough of them. * No robe in the room. They directed me to buy one for $120 from the gift shop. * No turn-down service, room service or mini bar. * The hotel footprint is enormous and the room sizes are tiny - seems like a lot of unutilized space that could have been more rooms. * Hotel lobby is open to the public so many folks opt to sleep in the common areas when they get bounced from the airport. Better security needed, it can feel like a homeless encampment. Bottom line: Primo would stay here again for a layover because of the convenience and lack of decent hotels in the immediate area, but this isn't a place to stay for more than a day or two.
