my daughter has been dancing with SFDC for 9 years. the dance education she has been receiving is…read morephenomenal. their teachers are extremely passionate about their art. with multiple professionals on staff teaching they have sent many students into the professional world once they have graduated. the studio is a safe environment for students and is very family oriented. walking into the studio feels like walking into a second home. their new competition team is amazing and places extremely well in all competitions. they put on the best holiday production, a Christmas Carol and at the end of the season in June they put on an amazing recital. with ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, acro, modern, contemporary, tap and conditioning there is something for everyone there.

Don't send your kids here. I am a parent and I've held my tongue for a while because my child…read moreenjoyed their lessons, but I have about had it. If you want your child to have a proper music education, send them anywhere else. You would probably be better watching YouTube tutorials. I think the issues stem from the top down. They are nickel and diming everyone, and the quality of work isn't worth the price. I can't tell you how many teachers my kid has had, and no they don't tell you. My child has gotten attached to three teachers only for them to never return. Front desk staff also turns over far too often. I've heard anecdotally from other parents that they do not treat their staff properly. I think the turnover rate speaks for itself. And the replacement teachers are young, clueless, and don't know their right hand from their left. Issues of racism and ableism are also an open secret. But I can't put up with this any longer. I have heard of multiple instances from parents about mistreatment or black and autistic children (and their families). I know the front desk refused to look a black mother in the eye. Anyway, I pulled my child out several weeks ago. I reccomend any parent looking for lessons to go anywhere else.

I especially love that they have a variety of adult classes, as not a lot of dance studios in the area seem to offer much for adults who will wish to dance. I have experienced from the owner unauthorized charges, multiple instances of blatant dishonesty,…read moreconcerning recital practices, a paid item that was never provided, suddenly rescheduled classes, accounting errors, and a threat to consult with a local lawyer because of my candid review. I signed up for a future class in person and explained that I would not like to provide a credit card for recurring charges because of ongoing home renovation, which we were paying with credit cards for the points. I was told that was perfectly fine. I ultimately enrolled my daughter in 4 classes. Shortly after, I noticed many charges of $35 on my bank statements. I found it odd, so I texted the owner, Rebecca. She said, "it's not a monthly fee it is a declined credit card fee." She also claimed that they incur the fees every time they attempt to run a card and it is declined. She said in addition to that fee, it also costs her money to "pay staff to redo the account transactions" on my behalf. When I asked her to show proof of these fees she pays when a card is declined, she replied, "we can speak in person but I don't feel texting is a good form of communication." Right... I reminded Rebecca of my circumstances. She insisted that it was not her responsibility to let me know a card was declined. Apparently picking up the phone or sending an email stating "we need another card" isn't as easy as charging $35 per attempt. After our call, I noticed my credit card still had plenty of room for the payment. I called my bank and learned that the reason for the decline was not my issue, but rather a protective measure because her venue was associated with a large amount of contested charges! After the incident, we cancelled 2 non recital classes and kept 2 classes so my daughter could attend the holiday performance and re-assess. While some received spectacular costumes, we were forced to rent costumes that looked like they had been washed, dried, and bleached for years. They were highly pilled, stretched, and faded, and they smelled. The same costumes were available to purchase on Amazon for less than 1/2 of Rebecca's cost. So the parents coordinated and bought our children new costumes. Then Rebecca announced she was charging us for new tights of the same color, yet selling elsewhere for 1/3 of her price. A money grab at every turn. When we cancelled the 2 classes, no one ever responded but she somehow cancelled 3 by mistake. And when she fixed her error, she charged us AGAIN for registration! She said, "the system automatically put the fees in." But the recital was the most disturbing performance I have ever seen. Very young children were paraded on stage in provocative costumes and some were lined up and positioned in back bends with their legs spread open toward the audience. My husband and I were beyond horrified. This studio also participates in Tremaine Dance Conventions. I highly recommend your thoroughly research those competitions before you select a studio. Never were we so happy to leave a studio. But even that process came with more unnecessary bitterness. More unauthorized charges, false accusations that we tried to recruit her staff to come with us. I do not own a studio or have any power, influence, or ability to recruit teachers to anything. When we handed in our rented rags, we were told we could have the tights they made us buy. That never happened either. Rebecca finally replied to let me know she removed the charges for December (for the classes we cancelled in November) and to wish me luck in finding another studio to so graciously "accommodate me." Seriously? I was shamed by Rebecca for missing and cancelling classes ... but they rescheduled classes freely. A few moms warned me about her right after we signed, and I truly wish I had taken their concerns seriously. When we explored other studios of a much higher calibre, we were told my daughter must forget everything she learned here, as the technique is not to their standards. Now that we have been with one of the best facilities for a month, I see that.

We were shown the no video sign by the usher midway thru the performance. The balcony seats , which I would have loved to have bought, were all empty. Not sure if they were bought or reserved by Lyric club members and they did not show, or if they were available for purchase. Did not show they were available when I was purchasing tickets. All seats were $50. Excellent price. After the show, while we were waiting for pics and merchandise from Ana, for 20 to 30 minutes, I would have loved to have grabbed a beer from the bar, but the bar was closed after the show. I will definitely be back for another live performance.

We have been to the Lyric Theater in Stuart for many events. The reason this historic theater is a great place to see a show is how up close and personal these performances have been. For a small theater to book artists like Ricky Lee Jones or Bruce Hornsby / and groups like Adam Ezra or the Outlaws is amazing. The employees and volunteer staff are wonderful and amazing. In university at USF I took a semester of ballet and the teacher complimented my technique as being the best one in the class, all thanks to the wonderful education I received at academy of arts. Now in 2025 my 3 year old daughter is taking classes and is enjoying every class. My mother, daughter and I recently went to the Christmas show and we were so proud to experience the show. It was such a great show, still professional and beautiful. 13 years later and Academy of Arts is still producing wonderful dancers.
