There's plenty of parking, and the studio is on the smaller side, but nice (there's two dance rooms--one larger one and one smaller one). Since the Kpop class was so popular, there were a lot of people, but we were in the smaller room, since it sounded like there was another group training for some sort of performance. Once they left, we switched over to the larger room. Isabel teaches the Kpop classes and she was so friendly and encouraging. She was patient and great at breaking down the dance moves, while moving the class at an appropriate pace. It is a 1.5 hour class, so we finished all the moves with 15 minutes to break into dance groups (not exactly my favorite part, because my brain can't usually learn all the moves in the same class). Of note, they do record the group dances, but you can probably sit out if you want (I just stick around because of peer pressure and low key want to remember how I looked from when I started until mastering the dance). It's also nice that she will be kinda doing the dance on the side to guide you. There's no level listed on the class, so I'm assuming it's all levels. Based on being at other dance studios, I think 2.0 was more of an intermediate level class, but it was very doable! Overall, I really enjoyed my class with Isabel!

Went to 1 heels class here…read more The instructor/owner Izzy was kind, welcoming, and upbeat. She encouraged people to have fun, cheer each other on and say hi to each other. I've been to other dance classes where the instructor wasn't as intentional and had more of a serious and closed off, "get all the moves right" energy, which can be off putting when you're just joining a casual dance class, so this was refreshing! The class was Heels & Grooves and I would say it's beginner friendly! We started with stretching, then practicing walking, then learned the choreo. It was a fun class! Lots of parking available in the plaza. The space was open, bright, and clean. My GPS told me to go to the left when really they were located on the other side. It seems like they have a diverse range of class offerings. I'll def be coming back!

HIP HOP CLASSES I…read morelive in the East Bay, but work in San Francisco. ODC is one of two dance facilities in San Francisco I've been to that are walking distance to the Bart stations. After work I would go to ODC on certain days. I've been taking hip hop classes since 2007 at ODC. Almost 100% of the hip hop classes I enrolled are taught my Micaya. What I love about ODC is the studios aren't dark inside. Also the studios are spacious enough where you don't feel cramped. Even though I've taken hip hop classes for almost 20 years at ODC it doesn't feel dated. The one complaint I would make is regards to Studio B, which is where I take hip hop classes. Most of the studios downstairs have wooden floors however upstairs inside Studio B the Marley floor has too much grip or can be sticky. I'm surprised that throughout the years I haven't twisted my ankle or knee. Despite the Marley floor I enjoy taking hip hop classes at ODC.

What is more I was made to feel it was my fault when I was doing nothing wrong. Heartbreaking.

Worth noting that as I arrived, I saw students leaving the Beg/Int class prior, come pouring out the door with huge smiles and breathless chatter. Such a great place of art and community in Oakland!

Each class is $25 unless there's a special guest, and you can book the class online or do a drop in when you're there (They accept Venmo on site!) I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. Teacher - 5/5. Good vibes and taught with the essence of what a dancer should have…read moreStudents - 2/5. Too much talking and not respectful during instruction. Lacks class etiquette. I used to come a few years ago, and I recently started coming back. I was pleasantly surprised because the current batch of teachers is much better than it was before. I took Eddie Mina's class on 6/24/26, and I absolutely loved it. The vibes were great, the choreography was taught thoroughly, and Eddie is an excellent instructor. I'm only taking off one star because I wish students were more aware of dance class etiquette. I understand that dance classes are supposed to be fun, but constantly joking, talking, and being unfocused with your group of friends while the instructor is teaching is disrespectful (not only to the teacher, but also to everyone else who paid to be there and is trying to learn the choreography) It was distracting enough that it made me hesitate to come back to this instructor's class if his crowd of students continues to be like this. (I didn't experience this in Austin's class, so I think the crowd varies by the teacher) In LA, most dance studios and instructors emphasize class etiquette and remind students to stay quiet and focused while the teacher is demonstrating or explaining choreography. I think that really helps create a respectful learning environment for everyone. I hope City Dance Studio can consider reminding students about class etiquette at the beginning of class or by posting a simple reminder on Instagram. I genuinely enjoyed the instructor and would love to keep coming back but the student environment is the only thing keeping me from coming back.

One Saturday I took all their morning classes. That's like 5 in a row. It was amazing. I had so much fun! There's like a 15 min break in between classes. I love every single class that I took! The only downside to this is I live so far (South Bay) so to beat traffic on weekdays I would come super early (around 2-3pm) and sleep in my car parked at the Trader Joe's parking lot and wait for their 4pm class. I even considered moving to Oakland just so I can start taking their classes again and be in a closer vicinity. I love what they stand for (body positivity). I love the staff. Not even a luncheon for your students and adult family who put countless time, energy, and efforts into the kids based upon your constant, random, and last minute change of schedule- getting to and from events, purchasing extra outfits that the kids do not like with no parental input, telling a parent they can't use the restroom after rehearsals were done at PVH a public building, excluding brown and black students and parents, including some of your instructors who left. No bday or graduation celebrations, nothing fronted by you. You hand picked friends and family behind closed doors to help with events, giving them the top notch spots and hours, and "opened" the option for volunteers afterwards. Facts: I volunteered twice right after the BAND went through and it was magically filled. You allowed students to be physically and verbally bullied, even after it being brought to your attention. You pushed for "ADA" to get in line first for events, when it was only YOUR elder Filipino family and friends. There's no "ADA" (your verbiage) for spectators. With the exception of Hercules community events, and maybe Kids Fest, you volunteered us for all Filipino based venues- St. Pat's and St. Joe's. Your students asked $25 for school event sponsorship and you declined, stating you're invested in other partnerships and couldn't afford it or go outside of that partnership. You brag about trips to Greece, Paris, regular trips to LA and Vegas, while drippin in LV and other name brand items- but keep raising our tuition and uniform and event prices. We're paying for YOUR lifestyle and being taken advantage of. You almost never had anyone answering the phones or at the front desk to help us with questions, concerns, but called us out in front of families when we owed tuition or you needed something. You had and have some invested leaders and instructors, who were afraid to stand up for what is right for fear of retaliation- their words. You cannot have 1 instructor for 25 kids, there's nothing productive about that, even though this was recently changed a few times in the last 10 months or so. By the way, you're not a licensed daycare and don't have all CPR or First Aid certified staff or defibrillators, so why do you allow adults to leave why their kids are in the studio and the 1-2 instructors are untrained and outnumbered?! You took away confidence and camaraderie, knowingly excluded people, snatched pride in being ourselves as you pushed for your own, maybe, implicit bias. We had a blast many times, it was from the classmates and supportive adults. It was a very difficult decision, but we had to maintain and heal our mental wellness and leave...Connor, don't be afraid to speak up, it's YOUR name, YOUR vision, grab a hold of it and don't let go!
