Allie and the gal that works with her are so patient and caring of all of the students at the TUTU School Berkeley. Josie loves "lalallet". Thank you. Her sister a graduate of TUTU School Berkeley, Mackenzie, has continued on with the Berkeley School of Ballet, and has loved ballet with Allie(during COVID online and after) and Charlie(@Hercules) with owner, Sonya at the TUTU Schools. The TUTU School Berkeley & TUTU School Hercules are caring, fun, magical schools for beginning ballet students. read more

We love Tutu School! Our daughter looks forward to it every week. She's been taking classes here for over a year and we have seen her grow in movement skills (dancing and coordination overall). It's sooo cute and funny to watch the dancers play and be silly (no pressure to perform perfectly). We also love our teachers (Ms Allie and Ms Katie). We've met friends here and overall it's just an adorable place! read more

we've been going here since my daughter was 18 months and she's almost 4 years old now. highly recommended!!!

Miss Ally is awesome! She's super attentive to all the dancers and does such a great job of making all the dancers feel welcomed and included. We need more teachers like miss ally. :) read more

My daughter is 18 months & had such a positive experience. We did a trial class at 9:30 am, she was the only student which I was nervous about at first because she's more on the shy side & had never done anything like this. Her instructor, Allie, was so kind, sweet, & patient. Since my daughter is 18 months, it's easy for her to lose interest in activities quickly. Allie, went from stretches, to popping bubbles with fairy Wands, dancing with scarves/ribbon, marching back & forth all within the 45 minutes to keep her engaged & active. I was hesitant at first to bring my daughter in at her young age but it was worth it. I appreciate Allie so much for constantly adapting to my daughter & finding activities that suit her best. read more

This is a great way to introduce ballet to your little ones. I started my daughter out at a traditional ballet school and it just didn't have what we needed (she was 3 yo). Then we switched her over to Tutu School and her engagement level and excitement about ballet really picked up. They do a really great job of teaching ballet in a fun and imaginative way, with props, storytelling, coloring, bubbles, etc. Even teaching ballet techniques in silly, creative ways that a 3 or 4 year old would understand. The teachers are super patient and very kind with little ones. The bi-annual recitals are the best - they are very organized and make it a fun experience for the kids and families. She stayed from 3.5 - 5.5 years old and we are so glad she had this experience. Now she's moving on to a more advanced ballet school and was able to build the technique and confidence at Tutu. read more

6 years later we continue to go and my younger daughter says it's her favorite activity - and that's out of several she's tried! I credit the teachers, especially Ms Cora, who has taught and continues to teach both my daughters. She pushes in the most positive way to help my girls reach their potentials. The classes are fun, pressure free, supportive and structured. Love it and thank you Ms Cora!! read more

We enrolled our 18-month-old in this class without knowing how it would go. She's still learning to follow directions, but the teachers do a fantastic job guiding the toddlers and keeping the class engaging. My little one absorbs a lot just by watching, and I've noticed her trying some of the moves at home. Each session, she seems a little more focused, which is so fun to see! This class is an adorable, easygoing, and no-pressure introduction to ballet and dance, mixed with toddler-friendly fun. Ms Georgia and Ms Allie are A+! read more

Tutu school is so great. Our girls have been going to the Berkeley location for almost 2 years now. Ms. Cora has primarily been their teacher and she is awesome! I love how Tutu School does recitals at the Herbst theater. It's such a cool experience for the kids. read more

Our daughter loves Tutu School! She started in the toddler class at 2 years old, and we have been amazed to see her progression through various class levels over the last three years. The class structure is the perfect mix of fun and age-appropriate instruction in a low stress environment. The teachers all do a great job engaging each child and making them feel special. Our daughter especially adores Miss Cora for her enthusiasm and technical teaching skill. In addition to the weekly classes, we have also participated in the semiannual Bravo Bash recitals, which brought our daughter's ballet enthusiasm to the next level. At first, we were nervous our daughter would find the recital to be overwhelming, intimidating, or scary, but we were surprised what a positive, joyous, low stress experience it was. The teachers do a great job preparing the dancers and emphasize that everyone should just do their best and have fun. Our daughter has loved all the Bravo Bash themes we've had so far (unicorn, Frozen-esque, and mermaid). The beautiful costumes really make our daughter feel like she's part of a fancy ballet! Overall, highly recommend! read more

Tutu is a great school I took my daughter here last week & she loved it! The instructor is AMAZING! She definitely has a lot of patience and makes sure that each of her students are understanding each position. I was so glad that I found this school online. I came back this week to enroll my daughter for the upcoming months! read more

My 5-year old daughter has learned and grown so much from her ballet classes at Tutu School Berkeley. Her teacher, Cora, is amazing. She's so patient, kind, respectful and talented, and she mixes fun with real technique. She has also helped to nurture my daughter's confidence in herself and her abilities. I can't say enough great things about this program and especially teacher Cora! read more

We have been a Tutu School family ever since our child could walk. As she has made her way as a emerging dancer, she has now participated in two dance recitals in San Francisco. We are so proud to see our dancer develop and make connections with her lovely dance instructors. We highly recommend this studio and love Miss Allie and Miss Cora. @tutuschoolberkeley #tutuschoolberkeley read more

This is such a wonderful school and experience for our daughters. Both of our girls have been dancing with TuTu Ballet for over a year now and we couldn't be happier. The price is affordable, the locations are clean and beautiful, but most importantly, the teachers are wonderful. Our teacher is Ms. Cora and we can't say enough about her. She treats not only the kids with respect and kindness, but even us as parents. Keeping us engaged and aware of our kids experience. If we had more teachers like Ms. Cora, our world would surely benefit a great deal! Thank you TuTu Ballet and more specifically, THANK YOU Ms. Cora. We truly consider you a friend and part of our family. Jason Wilcox, Mariebien Wilcox, Lareena Wilcox and Marilynn Wilcox read more

If I could give zero stars, I would without hesitation. The teacher overseeing my daughter's class was not only racist but incredibly impatient. Every week, I would receive emails filled with complaints about my daughter needing to use the restroom during class. It all reached a breaking point when the teacher handed out stickers with different fruits on them to all the children, except my daughter, who was the only black student, received a sticker of a gorilla scratching his head with the words "I'm confused" printed on it. Furthermore, the teacher consistently displayed a negative attitude and gave my daughter dirty looks throughout the classes. I promptly removed my daughter from that toxic environment and demand a refund. Never again will I subject my child to such blatant discrimination and disrespect. Here is the picture of the instructor that was teaching the class at the time my daughter was there. read more

Tutu is a great way to start ballet. Our daughter has been attending classes for a few months. She looks forward to coming here every week. We know other parents from her preschool who goes to other Tutu's, everyone loves it. The Berkeley location is very convenient, easy parking. Ms Melissa is great with kids. She makes each class interesting and engaging. Class starts with floor warm up, sometimes with barre work, dancing across the floor exercise. There's also time for free dancing with all sorts of props to keep it fun. read more

We've been going to the Tutu school for 2 years, with a gap between the years. Both times, the teachers were amazing. They were patient, attentive, and seemed to be having fun. Our current teacher, Kirsten, is awesome. She takes her time listening to what the girls have to say, while still keeping the lesson on track and teaching them new skills and phrases. I definitely recommend the Tutu School. read more

My 4yo daughter loves going for ballet class. I like the relaxed dress code for youngsters. My girl is highly sensitive toward certain fabrics and shoes, and she dislikes wearing ballet shoes (believe me, I've tried)... the studio welcomes her to dance barefoot which she adores. She also loves how the classes incorporate fun props, stories and coloring! read more

We had a mostly great experience with Tutu school. That said, my daughter dropped out because she wasn't enjoying it anymore. But all stories must start at the beginning: We discovered Tutu school completely by accident in September of 2017. We walked by during Solano Stroll, and a pretty young ballerina asked my daughter if she wanted a free sticker. Of course she followed her back to the booth for a sticker, as well as a free tutu tattoo. We learned that Tutu School had just recently opened in Berkeley. They were conveniently located, and the class sizes were very small. LOGISTICS: Signing up and attending is clear and simple. Registration is always open, and you sign up 1-month at a time, with no further commitment. The price seems competitive and fair. If you miss a class for any reason, you can attend as many makeup days as you need during the same month. You can also request a free trial before signing up. Classes are 45 minutes long, divided by age, and are available 7 days a week at various times (check the website for the calendar). Tutu School focuses on children aged 18 months up to age 8. We very much appreciated that this is NOT a formal strict ballet academy. The primary focus is on movement and music and storytelling, and less on achieving perfect form. That said, they do teach classical ballet positions and motions, and my daughter now knows a dozen French words that she didn't know before, including how to perform tendu, jeté, passé, échappé, pas de chat, and of course arabesque. Parking in this neighborhood can be tricky. We've had good luck finding 2-Hour free parking in front of the church on Catalina Ave. TEACHERS: Our daughter started out in the 3-4 year old class with Teacher Heather. I never saw for myself, but my wife and daughter report that Heather was amazing, both as a dancer, and as a teacher. She floated gracefully through the studio, and was able to keep the kids in rapt attention. And if one of the kids was not able to focus or behave, she would send them out of the class. We were excited when our daughter turned 5 and was finally old enough for the 5-year-old class. She's attending TK and growing accustomed to interacting with bigger kids. The older class was taught by Teacher Melissa, who was also graceful and kind, but wasn't able to get the same focus from the kids. Even with only 3 or 4 other kids in the class, every class in December and January was disrupted by girls jostling for position, arguing over who stands where, fighting over who gets the silver (or pink or purple) wand, or just talking out of turn. Practicing for the Winter Performance was the hardest for the students to focus on. I believe this was because the teacher hadn't fully memorized the routine, and because the girls were struggling to learn the various parts. By the end of last year, our daughter was no longer enjoying ballet classes at all. We convinced her to stick with it through January to see if it gets better after the recital was over, but it didn't get better. We did raise our concerns with the teacher, but did not see much improvement. We would have gone back to the 3-and-4-year-old class that she loved, but unfortunately Teacher Heather has moved to private practice and is no longer with the school. My recommendation to Tutu school is to keep the owner engaged and to train the teachers to be more comfortable and confident in demanding the kids attention and respect. Act more quickly to kick kids out for the day if they're disrupting the class. read more

We have been taking Sybil our 4 yrs old daughter at Tutu school Berkeley for 6 months now and she absolutely loves it. It was her first experience with ballet and a perfect one. The teachers (especially miss Mellissa and miss Ally) are amazing, the kids have fun but in the meantime learn so much in a relaxed and professional environment. Our daughter attends 3 times a week and she's always super happy to go there. Lessons are 45 each, location is convenient and parking is pretty easy. We love it and definitely recommend anyone with kids to try it out. Thanks Tutu School!!! read more

My Daughter has been going here for a few months now and she loves it. I just want to say thank you to all the teachers she has had because I know she can be kind of a handful. Tutu school is amazing for my three year old! She started at two in the parent-child classes (which I called "ballet-themed playtime," and which really helped establish her love of the idea of ballet and ballet class, and the start of her ability to follow directions). She's since moved on to the next level up (in which parents just watch), and it's starting to look a bit more like a real ballet class but is still a ton of fun for the kids so they keep wanting to go back. As someone who lost interest in ballet after my first class because it was too focused on learning the fundamentals and not on having fun or actually dancing, I love that Tutu School strikes a great balance (which is to say, mostly on the fun side because that's what's best for three year olds!). read more

Very cute school and ambiance. The teachers incorporate fun and dance and every week there is a very sweet "Ballet Story Time" that features a new story from a famous Ballet. The kids love it. We have a special place in our hearts for Ms. Mellissa, she is so sweet and attentive to each student's skill level. We had to move, but we totally recommend TutuSchool for any child who loves music and dance! read more

Miss Allie is simply amazing! She is soooo kind and patient with the kids. My daughter loves ballet because of her. We love you Miss Allie!

My daughter has been going to the Berkeley Tutu School for about four months. She'd been interested in ballet, and was also having problems participating in school events due to incredible stage fright and shyness. I think dancing in front of other parents every week has really helped her confidence. She also has a great time, of course! The teachers are kind and I love how the classes are designed to teach ballet in a fun and magical way. I would definitely recommend the Tutu School to anyone whose child is curious about ballet! read more

So appreciative that there is a ballet school that takes kids under 3- nowhere else I looked had this. My 2.5 yo daughter asks every day if she can go to ballet. At this age level it is parent participation, so be aware of that. They also do a lot more than just ballet, including parachute play, story time and coloring. Bubbles are always a hit. I really like how they allow you to come to 2 classes a week and do make-up classes. The flexibility is really helpful and makes me feel like we are getting a good bang for our bucks. read more

My daughter LOVES Tutu School. The teachers are so patient and engaging. They keep the class moving so quickly that there isn't time for them to lose focus or get bored. Love that they have class times that working parents can handle. All around great experience. read more
