My daughter is 18 months & had such a positive experience. We did a trial class at 9:30 am, she was the only student which I was nervous about at first because she's more on the shy side & had never done anything like this. Her instructor, Allie, was so kind, sweet, & patient. Since my daughter is 18 months, it's easy for her to lose interest in activities quickly. Allie, went from stretches, to popping bubbles with fairy Wands, dancing with scarves/ribbon, marching back & forth all within the 45 minutes to keep her engaged & active. I was hesitant at first to bring my daughter in at her young age but it was worth it. I appreciate Allie so much for constantly adapting to my daughter & finding activities that suit her best.

Tutu school is so great. Our girls have been going to the Berkeley location for almost 2 years now. Ms. Cora has primarily been their teacher and she is awesome! I love how Tutu School does recitals at the Herbst theater. It's such a cool experience for the kids.

We have been a Tutu School family ever since our child could walk. As she has made her way as a emerging dancer, she has now participated in two dance recitals in San Francisco. We are so proud to see our dancer develop and make connections with her lovely dance instructors. We highly recommend this studio and love Miss Allie and Miss Cora. @tutuschoolberkeley #tutuschoolberkeley

this is as her teacher at the time that gave her the gorilla sticker. Very racist!!! Shame on her !!!

If I could give zero stars, I would without hesitation. The teacher overseeing my daughter's class was not only racist but incredibly impatient. Every week, I would receive emails filled with complaints about my daughter needing to use the restroom during class. It all reached a breaking point when the teacher handed out stickers with different fruits on them to all the children, except my daughter, who was the only black student, received a sticker of a gorilla scratching his head with the words "I'm confused" printed on it. Furthermore, the teacher consistently displayed a negative attitude and gave my daughter dirty looks throughout the classes. I promptly removed my daughter from that toxic environment and demand a refund. Never again will I subject my child to such blatant discrimination and disrespect. Here is the picture of the instructor that was teaching the class at the time my daughter was there.

Tutu is a great way to start ballet. Our daughter has been attending classes for a few months. She looks forward to coming here every week. We know other parents from her preschool who goes to other Tutu's, everyone loves it. The Berkeley location is very convenient, easy parking. Ms Melissa is great with kids. She makes each class interesting and engaging. Class starts with floor warm up, sometimes with barre work, dancing across the floor exercise. There's also time for free dancing with all sorts of props to keep it fun.

We had never even heard of a Viennese waltz let alone knew how to dance it. Ruth was extremely kind and patient with us, and helped us create a routine at our skill level, listening to our feedback and suggestions all the way. In addition to that, she was flexible with our packed schedule that comes with a month before a wedding. The dance ended up a hit and we got a ton of compliments! A key part of teaching a physical skill is to remind the student as many times as needed what they need to change until they integrate the new idea/movement/whatever. Ruth is excellent at holding out until you get the right idea. Then she moves you right along to whatever you need to do next. Ruth is also super perceptive - She quickly sees exactly what trouble a student is having and then clearly and kindly guides you towards the necessary improvement. I'm impressed by her ability to help people at widely varying levels by giving each person what they need - even though her suggestions are different for each person. Ruth is also friendly, fun and positive. I always feel welcome and encouraged at her class. I highly recommend Ruth to anyone wanting to learn Latin dance.

Beth makes the studio feel like family, and you will feel welcome here no matter what your body can do or what it looks like. Great place for adult beginners. Danspace provides excellent foundational technique that will carry through to every class you take from now on. If you're looking for a place to send your kid for dance classes, this is it. Danspace is nurturing, encouraging, and most importantly, they value your kid's health far more than any other studio in the bay area. Your kid will come away from ballet with lasting technique and higher self-esteem, not lower. There is no recital mania at Danspace--the emphasis is on teaching, not performance, so while there are performance opportunities, you will not have to shell out for fifty bazillion sequined leotards and tutus. Take Carly's jazz class if you're an adult/teen with a bit of experience. She's a great teacher and will push you to try things you didn't know you could do.
