With columns blocking the view + overcrowded space, getting a decent spot can feel competitive, which is a space issue that contributes to increasing tension between members. Lately, some of the messaging around space feels like it's putting the burden on clients, which can come off as frustrating or unintentionally shaming. I get that it's a tough room to manage--but there are better ways to handle it. The minute a business starts treating its clientele as gnats or 'entitled problems', is the moment that the heart of the business begins to weaken. Simple fixes like rotating rows each song, clearer spacing markers on the floor, or more instructor movement (use all mirrors!) could make a big difference. Even having a place up front just for newbies could be a positive way to address this vs making clients feel blamed for environmental and system barriers. There's still a lot to love here--I just hope the studio can hold onto the supportive, growth-oriented culture it's known for.

This is a BALLROOM studio, where you learn and practice ballroom dancing. Think of ballet studio or jazz or hip hop, you would not expect those studios to have alcohol. This studio is probably the best in the Bay Area for ballroom dancing. Excellent teachers and instructors. I have taken both beginner, intermediate, series, and bronze level classes. I have some dancing experience but my partner doesn't, so he is now able (after 4 classes) do the basic steps for Viennese Waltz. This studio hosts events, which is fun but again it won't have alcohol. This studio emphasizes on ALL levels and welcomes ALL. You can always ask the staff questions before attending a class to see which level you fit into. The area is safe but it is an urban area, so please stop putting 1 star reviews bc your stuff got stolen from your car. It's not relevant to this studio. It's not their responsibility ... stop being dramatic. I don't work for Allegro and don't get compensated in any way by them. I just find it annoying that people post 1 star reviews for the heck of it. This is an excellent place to learn ballroom dancing and compete. Some people like an explanation of what the body is doing for dance, some just like to do it and learn kinesthetically. I chose Mirabai because I was impressed by her background and accomplishments. After working with her, I've become a loyal student because of her teaching style. Like others, I always find her to be upbeat and positive. Her teaching style is very warm and encouraging. She is really astute at identifying areas where I need more coaching. I find that her approach is very focused on refining technique without the pressure of a perfectionist.
