I got the last space, but I couldn't see if overflow parking was available. The appetisers were very good and beautifully presented. The duck that my friend had looked wonderful. Our main courses were very good. The cod was lovely and the steaks were nice. My steak was a little fatty and I found the gristle very chewy on the end piece. I also like my triple cooked chips a little more crispy, but that's just my taste. The desserts were lovely and again beautifully presented. The ginger cake with chocolate mousse and the ganache plate were particularly good. The table next to us has the beef wellington and I would definitely order that if I went again. It looked phenomenal! Overall a lovely experience.

Had the 3 course lunch menu for £38 (what a steal!). Lamb belly for starter was delicious, well seasoned and put together dish. Mains I tried the pork collar which was very good but the house made black pudding was phenomenal, best I have ever had..inventively spiced, wish I could buy a kilo to take home. Dessert was fig leaf panna cotta, light and flavoursome. Had a coffee with dessert which was also excellent. Its very clear that they try to do everything to the best standard possible. Wish I lived closer.

So I used Yelp to see what choices were within a short drive. I called White Horse to see if they could take us for dinner, and they suggested not waiting much longer as their kitchen closed at 9 (it was already 8.) I set the GPS and off we drove! If you've driven in rural UK, then you know that the roads are narrow and unlit. In the middle of nowhere, the GPS announced that we had arrived. So, I called again, described where we were as best as I could, and was advised to "keep going." About 5 minutes later, we arrived. We each ordered a Greek Salad. Often, the amount of cheese is pretty limited, especially on less expensive salads. Not so at the White Horse. The salads were absolutely loaded with delicious feta cheese, along with yummy cucumbers and tomatoes. Unfortunately, I can't remember the rest of the food we ordered, but it was all good. Had it been a bit warmer, we could have enjoyed our dinner in a lovely outdoor garden area.

It's quite a large facility, with indoor and outdoor seating. There were a few having drinks but mostly family gatherings as it was Sunday afternoon. There is a good selection on the menu along with a daily specials board. They didn't have your traditional pub fare so it was refreshing to see other items on the menu. We went with the sliced beef and lamb mains, which came with Yorkshire pudding, potatoes, and three sides. In addition, we tried the truffle parmesan fries and popcorn cockles. Both were equally satisfying. The portion sizes were huge, so you will not leave hungry. Food quality is great, tender pieces of meat, tasty sides, veggies and the pudding was delicious. The ambiance was definitely country inn meets classy British pub. Service was a bit strange at first, as we were questioned about our booking and who seated us and when. Staff should have better communication with each other and not leave guests feeling challenged. Service is slow compared to dining in London, but otherwise we were happy with the meal.

Arriving at 2pm, we found the huge car park seemingly full, but were nevertheless welcomed nicely and only had a 15 minute wait - at a table with comfortable chairs and a fire within sight. An excellent menu yielded many dishes we would have happily eaten, but we settled for an aubergine parmigiana and calves liver and bacon. Both were very good, though the liver could have been lamb, just seared which I prefer, but dauphinoise potatoes made up for it. No wine - it was a brief lunch - but with charming waitress service, good loos and a lovely view across the fields to the south, it will be a place to come back to for a full meal.

Well, it was a good thing we did, since we didn't get to go back for afternoon tea... Just as the name suggests, it is located right by the canal. It was very picturesque, peaceful and relaxing. They also have seating upstairs, and had histories on the canal, with photos posted all around the wall. Their cakes looked amazing, but I decided not to order any dessert on this day. Yes I know, a big mistake! Our friend ordered Heavenly Hot Chocolate, and it looked so pretty! We went with Teashop House Blend Tea, and Earl Grey. The young boy who brought the teas (I hear this is a family-run business) was trying to very careful not to mix them up. But the funny thing was, he totally mixed the tea up! LOL. We didn't realize until half way through... I thought the House Blend tea tasted so much like Earl Grey. For lunch, we had Ham, Cheese & Chutney Sandwich and Eggs Benedict. They were both tasty, nice portion, and filling. Our friend went with something healthier, and ordered one of their vegan sandwiches. It is nice to have that option if you want or need vegan dish. We had a nice quick lunch here. It was adorable and cozy. The food was good, not amazing, but good. I think the sweets might be better than the actual food...I will never know, unless I go back! Lesson learned: don't never expect your plan to go just the way you planned them...and have your dessert first!
