Ralph and Silvana were PARAMOUNT in preparing my son for his upcoming high school career. Middle School was a bit of a tricky time for him in his learning journey. It was so refreshing to be able to communicate directly with my son's team at Altus (and yes, it felt like a team). I would highly HIGHLY recommend Altus and particular Ralph Garcia as an educator. The teaching staff is patient, kind and in my opinion and most importantly accessible and great at communicating. I have nothing but great things to say about Altus. Every child's learning journey is individual and Altus does a great job of empowering students who may be on a non-traditional path. Thank you Altus!

The love she has for her school, her teachers, and the supportive community here is unparalleled, and it's one of the primary reasons we've chosen to stay in San Diego. From the very first day, it was clear that Le Lycee Francais de San Diego is a special place. The staff and faculty have created a nurturing and inspiring environment that encourages a love for learning. My daughter's teachers so far: Carine, Carole, Ezabel, Celine, Estelle have been exceptional, fostering not only her academic growth but also her personal development. The dedication and care they bring to their work is truly commendable. Beyond the classroom, what truly sets this school apart is the sense of community that flourishes here. The families who entrust their children to Le Lycee Francais de San Diego are warm, welcoming, and share a genuine commitment to their children's education and well-being. The friendships that my daughter has developed with her fellow students are invaluable, and the connections we've made with other parents have enriched our lives. The after school programs range from yoga, to fencing, to ballet, to judo, to chess, to language, music mean I wish I was a kid again just so I can experience a quarter of what the school offers. PTR accomplishes extraordinary feats, often operating in the shadows, with a dedicated few who make monumental efforts to drive substantial change. To me, they are the unsung superheroes, working behind the scenes to make the seemingly impossible a reality. I am forever grateful for everything you do. Le Lycee Francais de San Diego is not just a school, it's a place where children thrive, friendships flourish, and a lifelong love for learning is nurtured. Without a doubt, it's the best school in San Diego, and we feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of this extraordinary community. Thanks to movie night, I am able to sit in my quiet place and write this review. Love this school, the teachers, the staff, the community, all the freedom it offers and most importantly, the peace of mind knowing that my kid is in a great place, surrounded by great people, being well cared for emotionally, physically, and mentally. Thank you LFSD!

I've come back after many years to leave this review. For context, I was briefly a student here…read moreback in 2009. You'll understand in a moment why I waited so long to write this. I took SAT tutoring here, back when the SAT had three sections and was scored out of 2400. I ended up with a 2040 -- which at the time was the ~94th percentile. I scored a 730 on the Writing section, which was the ~99th percentile for men back then. So why the bad review? I ended up dropping out and self-studying halfway through because I was treated in an extremely condescending and arrogant way by Vincent Perry. At first, I had a wonderful tutor who handled my English and Writing sections -- she was kind, patient, and professional. When she left, I was told I was "lucky" to be upgraded to a "master tutor," Vincent, at no extra charge. For context, they were charging $50 an hour at the time but paying tutors only $15 an hour. I know this because several UCSD students I knew worked there and confirmed it. Vincent started an argument with me during our very first essay review after I used the phrase "due to." He claimed it was grammatically incorrect because it supposedly referred to being "due" like a deadline rather than "as a result of." When I politely disagreed, he told me I was being argumentative. I can assure you, I was polite and articulate -- he simply didn't like being challenged. So I dropped out and finished my prep on my own. About a year later, when I was in college, I applied for a position there. Vincent sent me an unprofessional rant accusing me of being a terrible student with poor work ethic -- completely out of nowhere, and long after I'd left. Without his help, I still achieved an excellent SAT score and couldn't justify asking my parents to keep paying for those lessons. I went on to graduate from UCSB, a Tier 1 research university, taught math and computer science for six years, and later worked at Microsoft and several tech startups as a senior sales executive. I can't attribute even a fraction of that success to this place. From what I remember, the lessons mostly consisted of buying a review book, being assigned problems, and then going over those problems in class. You can buy the same books yourself for under $100 and save the trouble of being mistreated. Even though this happened many years ago, I doubt much has changed. Remember that students don't forget experiences like this -- treat them with respect and listen to them. Your students are your customers.

I'm enrolled in a Linux Administration class because I usually work professionally in the Windows Server environment, but I needed a refresher on working in Linux to update my skills. I usually prefer self study over instructer led courses, but they offer a hybrid course here. There is a lecture along with self study and exams on netacad.com (actually, this is also available independent of the instructor led course via a virtual campus). In my case, I need the isolated structure of the classroom to help keep me focused on learning this material. They also offer a certificate if you complete all of the courses in a particular group (if you need or want that).

Be sure to attend all classes and they used to provide certificates of completion as along as you have perfect attendance for the class you are taking. (I'm not sure if they still do this.) Be sure to attend the first day of class about 1 hour before class starts to get a seat. There are only about 40 seats to a classroom. If you get there late, you might be sharing a computer with someone. And remember, it's important to tell all your friends, relatives and coworkers about this school. they get their funding through good attendance. From what I understand, they don't advertise. So please tell everyone you know that these classes are a great way to improve your computer skills. This nice thing about this school is they really want all students to do well. And the student has many options. If you don't like an instructor, just leave. If you ask questions, the instructors will try to help you. If you don't ask any questions, no one will respond to you. If you don't like the instructor, I would take the class anyway and see what you learn. Or if there is the same class with a different instructors, then take another class. As a student, you either make it a good place to take classes or a bad place to take classes. Also, remember, you can speak up and talk to the person next to you. They might know something you don't know or they might not know anything! And there are many free courses you can take online at other institutions around the world. Look it up on Google, type: free education. Or type in Google: free computer classes online for MS Word. Have you tried Khan Academy? It's a free place to take many different courses and there are no tests. Not only does North City Campus have computer courses which can be taken a la carte, but they also have several 9 month courses called their Certificate Program which require applying for in advance, and requires good attendance. These long courses are very well worth it because you are taking college level courses without paying a penny. There are many options, it's worth anyone's time to go there, ask questions and start learning to better yourself. North City Campus is something all cities in the USA should have. ---- About the parking at North City Campus and more. ---- For many years, probably over 20 years or more, the parking was free. It's a shame they are charging for parking, charging for parking makes no sense. If you are a student there, it's time to get some activism going and create a petition to stop the unfair charging for parking permits. The land is already paid for, they don't need to charge for parking. Note: Look at Steve G.'s review, it is not true. I've been attending this school since 1996 and it's a good school. Most instructors are excellent instructors and I've learned tons of information about computers and computer programs at this school. People think I'm a wiz at computers, which I am because I did take a multitude of classes here. In fact, I was able to start my own online business due to the classes I've taken at North City Campus. So Steve G.'s review is nonsense. Many people don't take the time to keep re-educating themselves throughout their lifetimes which is why they aren't good with computers or other skills. If you have a bad attitude (Like Steve G.), and you don't ask enough questions and don't enjoy learning, you'll never like this school or any school. Now take a look at Leo N.'s review. If this is true and it might be, all you students currently attending this campus need to start petitions and get the paid parking changed to free parking. When I started going to this campus in 1996, parking was always FREE. When they first built the new building with the multi-story parking lot on Aero Drive, the parking was FREE also. If you don't like something about this school, then let's change it. This school is paid by our California tax dollars and it used to also be funded by money coming in from the community colleges in this area. So, let's get them to change the paid-parking (which is complete nonsense) to free parking again! Don't just complain, do something about it.
