To be clear, the oral surgeons themselves--Dr. Caroline and Dr. Hoover--were excellent. They were attentive, skilled, and professional throughout my care. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for their front office coordination. I recently tried to replace a cracked retainer (top and bottom) that I've worn consistently since my corrective jaw surgery. What should have been a straightforward process turned into a frustrating and confusing situation due to repeated miscommunication. I was initially told to wait until I could provide dental insurance before scheduling, which delayed my visit unnecessarily--only to find out later that the office didn't even request that information when I came in. Then, despite clearly explaining multiple times that I needed a full top and bottom retainer, I was told one was ready for pickup. After driving 40 minutes, I was given another night guard--the same one I already have and did not need. Dr. Hoover personally acknowledged the mistake and confirmed that the correct retainer would be made and mailed to me. I paid what I was told was the full amount for the proper retainer. However, I then received a call from Dawn-Marie stating I owed an additional $155, contradicting everything I had previously been told by both her and the front desk staff. During that call, Dawn-Marie was dismissive, spoke over me, and laughed at me multiple times while I was trying to explain the situation. At one point, she questioned why I didn't go through my orthodontist and laughed when I explained my confusion. This was unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall, the lack of communication between the coordinator, staff, and doctors has been extremely frustrating. I'm still waiting for a resolution while concerned about my teeth shifting due to not having the correct retainer. I expected a much higher level of professionalism and coordination from a medical office. Unfortunately, this experience has been anything but that.

I wish they provided me written instructions for how to handle the rest of the week since my follow up appointment was one week from my surgery. Jennifer is a great staff member who is very helpful. She may have told me verbally on what I could eat throughout the week but I was barely coming off of the anesthesia and don't remember what was said lol All in all, I would highly recommend them.

Multiple dental offices were unable to treat him due to the need for medical clearance and hospital-based care. After several weeks of unsuccessful coordination, my father developed a fever and was admitted through the emergency department, where we met Dr. Thiede. Dr. Thiede evaluated my father in the hospital and proceeded with the removal of all infected teeth. My father was admitted on a Friday evening, seen by Dr. Thiede on Saturday morning, and the procedure was appropriately scheduled and completed on Sunday. Dr. Thiede was thorough, patient, and took the time to answer all questions, which was greatly appreciated given the complexity of my father's medical condition. The office and hospital staff were also professional, kind, and accommodating. During a follow-up visit, our wheelchair transport service canceled at the last minute, and my father had not been eating for several days post-discharge. Despite scheduling constraints, the staff accommodated his appointment without hesitation and without making us feel at fault. As a result of the care provided, my father is recovering well and has been able to resume eating. I am sincerely grateful to Dr. Thiede and his team for their professionalism, coordination of care, and compassionate approach in a medically complex case.

Went to OC Smiles on Friday 3/13/26 for a loose implant because my dentist is closed on Fridays…read more Helena was great and the only good thing i will have to say about my experience. I didn't need a diagnosis, since I told the dentist that my implant was loose. He decided to take a ct scan, charge me for it and charge me for his false "diagnosis." $290 later.. he told me I need a New crown and wanted me to pay $2900 to return for 2 more visits to "fix" it. I Declined his outrageous treatment plan, knowing my implant was just loose. I waited until Monday with no problems and went to my dentist Dr. John Vartanian (Newport Beach) who did the implant for me. He tightened the screw and I was out of there in 10 minutes for free. I believe SoCal Smiles owes me $290 back for their unnecessary scan and incorrect diagnosis. They were trying to sell me something I didn't need and I'm quite upset about how this was handled when I brought it to their attention. I would go elsewhere and not trust this place with your time or money.
