Have played here on and off since it first opened. Current owners are the third group to run this…read moreplace since the beginning. Course is challenging but manageable for the typical golfer. If rating solely on that i would give it 4 stars. I rated as I did because the staff is rude at best pushing towards unprofessional and insulting. The course ranger we encountered today was pushing for a punch in the nose. We were a foursome iof seasoned (I'm in my 60's) golfers who know and play with proper golf etiquette. There were a large number of 2 somes and singles playing this Sunday. They are obviously going to play a faster round and when they were waiting on us, we would let them play through. The ranger busted our chops about not letting people play through. Why would this course book anything other than 3-4 somes on a weekend and combine doubles and singles? Very unlikely I'll be back until there are new owners, which based on the relatively empty parking lot at peak season will happen sooner than later.

This course reminds me of the beautiful courses in northern Minnesota with amazing sight lines and a great layout. Only a couple quick issues, it had not rained for a few days before we played yet the course was very wet for some reason. Also the greens were quite shaggy and inconsistent which made it a bit frustrating. All in all we had a great time and I'll be playing there again!

Terrible customer service. We've tried to support the business several times over the last 6 months…read moreon various days of the week to find it unexpectedly closed when the website says it is open i.e. Wednesday/Thursday evenings. Other times we've been able to play but there is just one person in charge of cooking, waiting tables, and serving the bays. No way is that effective customer service. Just today I called several times to get no answer. So we showed up hoping to play and the girl said nope, we're full when there was an open bay. I realize it was reserved in the next 20 minutes but it is frustrating that I called to check on availability and no one answered! How hard is it to answer the phone? To at least give people a heads up that they're full for the evening. So we drove 30 minutes to not be able to play. I'd really like to support your business as we are a big golfing family but we have keep having bad experiences. I'm super disappointed!

The course is an absolute dog track. Fairways are fine, greens are fine, but ALL tee boxes need to be leveled (that annoys the hell out of me), and if you miss the fairway, the rough is like concrete. Clearly they don't have water on the rough because it gives hard pan a whole new meaning. I lost 3 golf balls by missing the fairway by 8 feet and watching my ball bounce as if it hit the parking lot. The other thing that irked me is that my son and I played 9 holes in an hour and 40 minutes - that's not slow. Meanwhile, we had a group up our ass the entire round. The foursome in front of us wouldn't let us through, so it was frustrating to be trapped in that situation, especially with a junior golfer along - he doesn't need the added pressure of being rushed all day. Ultimately, we're not likely to go back.

Butternut Hills Golf is an excellent course in northern Wisconsin. Any level of golfer can be…read morechallenged by the course. Some sand, some water and some narrow fairways - but a fair course if you can hit your ball reasonably straight. Greens on some holes are tricky - but all but a couple are in great shape. I like to walk - but it is tough on this course because of the distance between some of the greens to the next tee box. So, unless you have time for a 5 hour round - probably best to take a cart. The green fees are a little pricey - but I normally only play this course on the weekends- so I assume they jack up the prices on the weekends to take advantage of the cabin owners. However, I enjoy the course enough to pay a little extra.

There are some pretty fun holes here - it isn't the hit-the-ball-through-the-windmill sort of mini golf. more of the more modern kind with the rivers of too blue water. But, it was still fun.
