Butternut Hills Golf is an excellent course in northern Wisconsin. Any level of golfer can be…read morechallenged by the course. Some sand, some water and some narrow fairways - but a fair course if you can hit your ball reasonably straight. Greens on some holes are tricky - but all but a couple are in great shape. I like to walk - but it is tough on this course because of the distance between some of the greens to the next tee box. So, unless you have time for a 5 hour round - probably best to take a cart. The green fees are a little pricey - but I normally only play this course on the weekends- so I assume they jack up the prices on the weekends to take advantage of the cabin owners. However, I enjoy the course enough to pay a little extra.

Was able to play with my Bro- and Mother-in-law, had an easy time booking a time around 745a and we were able to go out a few minutes early too. Nice staff, pro shop guy let me snag a bag of tees on the house, we grabbed drinks from a friendly bartender at the turn, and noticed a drink cart guy was driving around once we were halfway through the back 9. Great signage and good combo of cart paths and open grass to drive on (love that combo as we have all concrete paths typically in Houston). Multiple tee boxes to choose from and longest was around 6450yds, and dated gas carts that they were cleaning as we were ready to head out. Course was in good shape, greens were nicely manicured and probably rolled around a 10-11? Really enjoyed how consistent they were. No patches of note. Fairways were rewarding and provided lush approaches, and rough wasn't too long and penal. Good mixture of holes, 9 towards the clubhouse is intimidating, yet a drivable par 4, and 18 was the star. Would definitely play again for the $75 fee w cart. Looked to be nicest public course in the Spooner, WI area. Finished in about 4 hrs, and we stopped at the turn for a drink run. I am very disappointed to be writing this review. We love the course and have been playing here for…read moreyears as we have a cabin in the area. Prices have gone up considerably. The course was in great shape yesterday. Didn't seem too busy until we caught up to a very slow fivesome on #3. They were hitting multiple balls and playing from the back tees. They were average golfers at best to be playing from the blue tees. 2 other groups caught up to us. We joined with another twosome and waited. I called the pro shop to let them know. They told us that they would send a Ranger out to check. Didn't happen. We left after 9 holes. I felt we were being patient but this was not good. Unfortunately I read another review that commented on fivesomes, slow play, rangers who didn't seem to care about pace and the pricing. Maybe this was just a bad day? We left the course extremely disappointed and are questioning if we want to return. We play Turtleback and Siren National among other local courses so our money will easily go elsewhere. Great course, but we had a bad golf etiquette and course management experience on July 5th 2026.

The back nine had a ton of elevation changes including a multi-tier fairway on one of the holes of the back nine. The forest makes it difficult to keep the fairways in absolutely pristine condition on a few of the holes and some of the bunkers could use a little love but overall I found the course to be in good condition. I look forward to returning!

After vacationing in Hayward for 15 years or so, I finally visited the Wilderness Walk with my…read morekids. They really loved it. The Wilderness Walk is so much bigger than what you can see from the road. I was blown away by this too. And the kids could get so close to and feed lots of different animals, including goats, several types of birds (like pheasants, peacocks, chickens and more), a camel, deer, alpacas and rabbits. In fact, the deer along with the turkeys roamed free in the attraction. We looked in the teepee that guests are welcome to walk into, and right there was a deer -- same with the picnic area. The baby animal area was also a hit. The Wilderness Walk includes a "Wild West town" too, with a maze you can walk through, photo ops and more. One thing I'll say, some of the enclosures seemed a little small for the animals. Like the bear enclosure just looked so restrictive. My kids were most excited to see the bear, but they said they wanted to move along quickly after we were standing in front of it. And something to know before you go: Tickets are $13-$18 each. We can now say we've crossed this off our list.

Love this place. The staff are always friendly and the animals are very well cared for!read more

They have very nice basketball gym with a running track above it. They also have a great workout area with weights and cardio machines. My only issue was we went Saturday morning to ask when they were open and I was told that the pool was open until 8 pm. That it specifically closed a half hour before the building. We showed up at 6 pm and the person at the front said the pool was closed and picked up the little paper notification paper to show me. Cool but the earlier person should have said that and let me know. Instead I drove and got 4 little kids ready and then had to deal with dissapointed kids. The next day was super nice but no one really seemed to care what happened the day before. My suggestion to the owner is maybe work on the management process of the facility. It is super nice and you own a lot of other well run property in town. This should be the shining gem of Minong. I will be back and hope to have better communication on open times when I do.

After telling my son and a friend about a canoe trip I took as a teenager down the Namekagon and…read moreSt. Croix rivers 30 years ago, they both said they really wanted to do something similar. After reaching out to multiple outfitters in the region, I choose Jack's and I'm glad I did. I didn't want to transport my 17 foot Grumman aluminum to upper Wisconsin and take it through the rapids. We were also going to need to rent a second boat anyways and needed a shuttle. I started looking into local outfitters. They were quick to respond to my inquiries and answer my questions. They also were willing to not only rent us a canoe and a kayak and provide shuttle service, but they answered my questions about what I'd need to do for a multiple night trip down the river. We camped at their site for the first night and put in right there so we could paddle down the river, across Trego Lake, portage the dam, then continue down the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers over the next couple of days. The equipment they rented us was in good condition. We had no issues with the paddles, PFDs, or boats. The shuttle van was clean and well maintained. When we looked at the camps all of them where in nice, clean conditions. The port-a-poties were clean. They have a store on site to purchase any items you may need to go down the river. The staff was friendly and nice. It wasn't busy when we arrived and was able to chat with some of them. It's a family own and operated business. We had scheduled a 3pm ride back to our vehicles on our last day but due to our underestimating how fast our trip was, we got there around noon. I called Jack's and inquired if there was any way they could pick us up early. Knowing they're busy I highly doubted it. Their response was they didn't have any drivers available right then, but if one becomes available early they would send them our way. We really didn't expect anyone to get there until 3pm. However, around 2pm the shuttle arrived. If we had to wait until the scheduled pick up time that would be understandable, but because they had the availability and could come early, that was pretty awesome in my book. If you're looking for an outfitter to go down the river either via canoe, kayak, or tube... I can't recommend enough Jack's.
