We went all around the island and very much enjoyed this tour. I always take the bus tours on the first day when I got to a new place and this one certainly does not disappoint

We have gone on a number of tours, including trolley tours in this city and others. So this was not our first tour of this type. We have enjoyed the ones that we have taken on Saint Simons Island and elsewhere. We were prepared for another enjoyable opportunity to learn more about the island and the history of its ghosts in this case. Unfortunately, this tour was far beneath our expectations. This is even aside from the fact that the bus felt worn out with no seatbelts and with open window spaces where windows used to be. It felt like a wreck that was being used for this purpose. To start off with the tour itself, it lasted only about an hour, and only went to a few locations on the island. . Most of the stories told were of deaths that occurred more than 100 years ago. The stories were very vague and were mostly discussed in the form of rumor. Our host commonly said things such as "someone told me"or "I heard." This was sort of disappointing to start. In the history of an island that has been inhabited by civilized people for hundreds of years, you would expect that there would be even more recent stories of spirits, but this did not come up in our tour. The tour guide did provide a few photos which had been shared with him by past trolley guests. And they were interesting, of course. But beyond that he did not seem to take much trouble to do much more than pass on established rumor. In addition, at times, he would feign a low, menacing voice, followed by a Scooby-Doo style evil laugh. It all fell flat. It just fell flat. The point at which we knew for certain that we had made a mistake to buy tickets was when the driver decided to turn off all the lights on the bus and speak to us in the cover of darkness. If he was going for the creepy factor, it was achieved, but it was more than that. Unnecessarily, he decided to prank the guests by screaming and sounding an air horn at the same time. It was irrelevant. It was painful. It was startling, but in a cheap way. We were so relieved our son with sensitivity to sound repeatedly requested not to go on the tour. We encouraged him several times but he continuously said no thank you. He would not have done well when this happened. It hurt our ears without having his issues. We weren't charmed by the prank. Our ears hurt, and we were annoyed. We would've gotten much more out of simply reading a book about the ghosts of Saint Simon. It would have been more informative and pleasant than this experience. This was a waste of our money. Unless major changes are made to the quality of this opportunity, we would not recommend it. Save your money. Save your time. Save your eardrums.

And I wasn't wrong! The tour lasted about 90 minutes (and it leaves promptly FYI) and takes you along the shoreline of Amelia Island - past the shrimping boats and past a Civil War era fort - before heading towards Cumberland Island National Seashore. This is where the true fun of the tour was for me. I had no idea really the history of the island and found it fascinating how the Carnegies and Rockefellers and more of the country's elite used this random Georgia seashore as their private escape. The history of both Cumberland and Amelia Islands is incredibly fascinating and the guides for both the Florida and Georgia sides respectively were well informed and personable. Plus - you'll very likely see a ton of great wildlife throughout including dolphins and wild horses and pigs. It's a great way to spend an afternoon in the area and a fabulous introduction to Cumberland Island National Seashore/Park.
