My cousins are residents of Irvine so they were able to get a permit for our family reunion of 4 generations. There were almost 130 attendees!!! Upon arriving to the center, I noticed how clean and pretty the park was. The parking lot was conveniently close to the rec center. Perfect! We have so much supplies, food and decorations to bring in to the center. The automatic door opened and i went to the desk to sign in. There she was with a smiling face... KALIA! Kalia greeted us and was so sweet and helpful. She even offered us a cart to bring in all the drinks and food. It's almost as if we were at Kalia Rock Community Center. She made us feel so welcomed and at home. She gave us the 5 cent tour and said move in! If you're ever considering where you should have your family reunion, party or any type of gathering, this community center rocks! We used the bbq grills, the park is a stone's throw away, the kitchen is so spacious, the park set up 28 tables for us... it was absolutely the best venue ever! Turtle Rock Community Park is a neighborhood park in the Turtle Rock neighborhood of Irvine. It encompasses 25 acres and includes kids playgrounds, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, a half basketball court, BBQ pits, and picnic shelters. There are two parking lots with ample parking. There are a couple bridges separating the two sections of the park. There are tons of grassy areas throughout the park which make for good picnic spaces with blankets. You can make reservations for their multi-purpose room, meeting room, craft room, and picnic shelter for a fee. read more

Last year, I enrolled my 6-year-old daughter in this center for summer camp 12:30 till 5:30 pm , but after attending 4-5 times, I decided to stop bringing her. She shared with me that some of the teachers were unkind and would give penalties when she didn't listen -- for example, they would give popsicles to the other kids but not to her or to others who didn't follow the rules. When I spoke to the staff about it, they said she was given a popsicle but needed to listen better. I understand the importance of discipline, but giving treats in front of some children while excluding others or giving them timeouts -- especially at this young age - is discouraging and upsetting for them. I truly hope that this year, the city assigns more experienced staff to this center. Many of the previous staff members seemed very young (around 17 or 18) and appeared to have limited experience working with small children.I don't recommend this center . read more

This is one of my favorite park in Irvine. Clean. Spacious. Luscious grass fields. Safe. A cool Nature Center. Ducks. Play grounds. It's got everything you need for an outing, picnic, playing sports, family gathering, hike, walk, bike, bbqs, etc. I love that you see green everywhere! Lots of shaded areas and picnic tables. Be sure to make reservation if you want to host an event. You must submit an application and a deposit to hold your spot. Legend has it that the neighborhood of Turtle Rock in Irvine was named after early settlers found a giant rock shaped like a turtle. Okay, maybe I'm just making this up...or am I? Anyway, you may not be able to find a rock that looks like a turtle in Turtle Rock Community Park, but you'll definitely find a lot of other fun stuff. This is a great place to have a picnic. There are tons of tables and barbecues, and if you're having a really big event, you can reserve the tables and rent out the multi-purpose room which has restrooms and a kitchen inside. I used to live in the neighborhood many years ago, and I remember taking my friend's child here for a picnic and there were lots of places for her to play and tire herself out. If you're into tennis or volleyball, they have courts with lights for playing at night. This is also a great place to meet your friends for a hike, run, or bike ride on the surrounding hills and paths. The Sierra Club meets weekly in one of the parking lots, and I've seen some cycling clubs come here as well from time to time. My friends and I often come here as a meeting spot to run. The backside of the park connects to the Shady Canyon Trail, and running around Turtle Rock is a great way to get in a hill workout. Some people may think of Irvine as a boring planned community, but you can't deny that along with that planning (or sterility, if you must) comes a lot of great amenities such as Turtle Rock Community Park. And even if you don't live in Irvine, you can visit the park and then go back to your chaotic city where every house actually looks different (gasp!) read more

I've only been here once. It's kind of far from my house and there are plenty of other really nice parks where I live. This one is a bit old, and doesn't have much in the way of shade over the kids play area. Then again, how many parks do? The 2-5 play area isn't good for younger kids, so I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't much for my 17 month old to do. There are toilets inside the community centre. read more

I love this park! There are a few different play structures for various ages, sandboxes, plenty of grassy areas, a baseball field, and so much more! I'm especially a big fan of the spacious community center on site, as it's perfect for hosting events at...especially because the parking lot is enormous! The layout is really thoughtful and the surrounding neighborhood feels safe. I hope to visit again soon! read more

I'm not really here to rate the park, just express concern and give a WARNING to those who frequent there. Today my aunt was walking her dog on a leash when 2 dogs off leash came rushing toward her dog so she picked it up. One of the dogs bit her in the leg, then the Asian lady came to get her dogs and said she would put them in the car and come back. She never did and my aunt hobbled to my moms house where we all were with blood dripping down her leg. She is in the emergency room and will probably need stitches. To all you do owners who permit your dog to run off leash, shame on you! Especially if this happens and you don't take responsibility for it. read more

Reasons: 1) Perfect benches and grills 2) A little stream that USED to have crayfish 3) Tennis/Volleyball court 4) Child AND baby playground 5) Large field for football, soccer, baseball, etc. 6) Helpful staff 7) Another exercise trail near the park that's perfect for cycling, jogging, roller blading/skating 8) Large area for pets 9) Activities in the little center 10) Overall, a very clean, nice, and enjoyable park! I love this park. I did a video feature of it on YouTube that will come up if you search for it. They have volleyball, tennis, plenty of fields, playgrounds, and a stream. You can reserve sections for a bounce house and can reserve picnic tables for events. They have an after school program and an on site nature center open 7 days a week. read more

Love the onsite staff there and give them 5 stars but DO NOT RESERVE ROOMS at any of their facilities if there is any chance you might have to cancel. Then you will have to deal with their corporate office - ew. They are all about their "rules and cancellation fees". Like the city of Irvine doesn't make enough money but they still feel the need to bleed Girl Scouts for their cookie money. WOW read more

Love this park. It's the family favorite. Two play structures--one for older kids, one for younger ones. Slides and climbing equipment are varied and fun enough for almost any pre-teen kids. The sandboxes are generally nice and clean. The placement of the trees is really good, so the play structures are well shaded for most of the day outside of high noon. Nice clean grass to lay out a mat on. There's a nice little stream and plenty of ducks in the spring/summer. But no geese, so it's not covered in bird poop like some of the other parks in the area. There's also a nature center with a nice little kids trail. They run kids after school programs out of this park, too, and the staff are all really great. read more
