My wife (who is in a wheelchair) and I went to Turley's for some flowers for a sick friend. After struggling through the entrance door, which is not handicap friendly, we were greeted by empty display cases, and a disinterested woman who asked what we were looking for. We told her, and she said they have no flower arrangements until tomorrow. So we asked about cut flowers, and were told the same thing. So we were in a flower shop with no flowers, and the woman couldn't have cared less. And she walked away, leaving a senior pushing another senior in a wheelchair to struggle awkwardly out their manual door again. If you and your staff want to encourage repeat business here, this is NOT the way to do it. There are other places to buy flowers in Nanaimo, and that is where we will shop from now on. read more

After a "bonehead" error on my part by unwittingly ordering flowers on line from an American company, Marianne went above and beyond to help sort things out for me. Everything worked out in the end - the American company accepted my cancellation of the order - Turley's sent a beautiful arrangement to my friend which looked even more lovely (if that's possible) than the flowers displayed on the website. If you like being treated politely - go anywhere else. I had an absolutely awful interaction with one of their employees - and cancelled my order because I honestly don't want to give them any money. I tried to complain and clarify as to why I was cancelling my order and Marianne Turley's response to my initial complaint was ridiculously dismissive. She tried to frame it as my issue, that I was unhappy with an error I had made during ordering. No. I was unhappy because your staff (or possibly you, I don't know) treated me very poorly over a very simple inquiry. If there's anywhere else open - go there. read more

We have been ordering flower from Turleys since we moved out of province. My in laws live in Nanoose and we often send my Mother in law flowers. I called today to place an order for Mothers Day and it will certainly be the last. For starters i went in with the "idea" of wanting an arrangement i saw on their site. When i mentioned it i got a snickety "well they dont always look the same as what you see" and made the request sound impossible. So she offered to do fresh cut flowers instead. Then she says "oh wait im not sure if we are delivering out there" and went to see. She came back to the phone and said they are and i was fine with that but she charged us $20 for delivery for a place 30 mins outside of Nanaimo. Get real! In the past we have paid 10.99 for delivery. I asked her if it would go out tomorrow and she replied "well it certainly wont go out today".. Honestly lady. I get its Mothers day but if you cant handle the influx of calls,orders and walkins maybe its time to sell your business and retire! You've lost a loyal and regular customer cause of your attitude and rudeness. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. The customer service we received from an obese old lady (not to judge on her body size, but this is the only useful identifier) was sub standard at best, if not unacceptable. I am not sure if she should continue working there as she seemed upset at us just for looking at the flowers we might want. All of us go to a flower shop to get professional help for choosing, and putting together a better looking flower bundle. As I started choosing flowers, the aforementioned lady consistently shook her head, sighed and urged me to hurry. I cannot think of any reason why she would do this as I wasn't engaged in any behaviour that would reasonably be frowned upon. I didn't ask her too many questions, I wasn't touching other displayed flowers. I was trying to buy a birthday flower. That was it. Rarely anybody in retail industry would display such an eccentricity. The website displays the owners name as Jim and Marianne Turley. Mr. & Mrs. Turley, if you read this, have a talk with your employee as she is deterring away customers. If the said lady is the owner, well.. bad bad bad business practice. Marianne and Jim have gone the extra mile for our family for years now. We always need a deer proof flower arrangement twice a year and ALWAYS the arrangement is made with absolute care and attention to every minute detail that is important to us ,the arrangement lasts longer than others and it is consistently stellar . I ordered flowers for my boyfriends mom for her birthday through the website. We opted for online floral delivery because we don't live in Nanaimo and could not make it over for the weekend. When we put through the order we had to select a date from the calendar in the order screen. I put through the order for delivery on Sunday Feb 8th. When I got the confirmation email it stated the correct delivery date (Feb 8th). On Saturday Feb 7th I got a delivery confirmation email that my order was delivered successfully. I called in right away to ask why it was delivered earlier than the specified date, the person who answered at the store was not helpful, sounded like she didn't give a crap about what my problem was, stated that they are closed on Sundays and then just said "give me your number and I'll tell the manager to call you back. Then I get a phone call from the owner 20 minutes later and she was so unpleasant to speak with. She was abrupt, kept interrupting me, and blamed the mess up on me. I told her the confirmation email I received stated delivery for Feb 8th. She told me to forward her the email I received, I did that, then she called me back to tell me there was another receipt email that was sent after the confirmation email that had an adjusted date for Feb 7th.Yes,I didn't pay attention to that email because it was a "receipt" email outlining the total charge for my order (the original confirmation didn't include taxes and shipping.) which is also annoying because it's not like the tax rate changes, and they charge $10.99 for local delivery. This should have been a red flag for me, the other site I considered ordering from was free local delivery. Turley is such a money grab. If they are not open on sundays they should either remove the option to choose deliveries for Sundays, or they should put a note right next to the calendar that explicitly states that deliveries marked for sundays will be delivered on Saturdays. The least their staff could have done as a courtesy was to call and let me know that they are closed on Sundays. The owner was cold and her apology was so insincere. The whole conversation both times she kept trying to blame me. Do yourself a favour and order from somewhere else this place was a rip off and crap service. read more

Why are these miserable people even in business? When they were awful the first time, we swore we wouldn't go back (and sometimes you think someone might just be having an off day). The second time, they were convenient when we were pressed for time. Since it is so clearly annoying to them to have customers walk through the door, we will not put them through that experience again. read more

I called to place an order for Mothers day flowers.The lady who answered the phone was extremely rude. No hello or anything. I knew it was going to a busy time for the florist given Mother's day was coming up so I expected the conversation to be a bit rushed. I wouldn't have minded that. But this lady was cold, interruptive and a bit of a jerk. She didn't even ask me if I had a any preferences for my flowers (arrangement, colour, style). I felt like she was telling me I should be happy to get what I could get. I asked if she knew when the flowers might get delivered. Well that was apparently an inconceivable question to ask. "I don't know!!" she yelped exasperated and annoyed."We have 5 trucks going out tomorrow!! We are very busy!!" I understand, that's OK I said. She took my credit card number and said she was done. I thanked her for her help and she said "yep", no thank you or goodbye . My order wasn't a small one either. Somehow I was spending over $200 at their store and I came out feeling like they were doing ME a favour. Our conversation wasn't long but it left quite an off feeling in my stomach. I decided to call back and cancel a couple of hours later. The lady who answered the phone seemed quite nice. She asked if I could call back after Mother's day to tell the owner about my complaint. I asked if she knew who took my order, she opened up the ordering system and said "oh, it was the owner, Marianne Turley". That shocked me to hear. After finding out it was the owner who took my order I felt even better about my decision to cancel my order. Before that I was thinking it was just a grumpy underpaid employee and maybe I shouldn't hold that against the florist shop as a whole. But I guess in the end I made the right call. I'm sure given the owners attitude she doesn't care about this, but I was a long time customer. Ever since I moved away from Nanaimo 15 years ago I've always phoned in flowers for delivery to my friends and family back home. I will not longer be a patron of Turley's Florist. read more
